To all whom z'zf may concern:

'Be it known that l, Louis RosEN, a subof Russia, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sign-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a sign holder and more particularly to a means whereby'the reading' matter or lettering of a price or sales sign for clothing and the like may be readily changed, obviating the expense and time required in purchasing and having at hand a great number of price or sale signs of different prices and characters.

An object of this invention is to provide a frame for supporting a plurality of letters and numbers arranged to indicate the article for sale and the price thereof, which letters and numbers may be removed and others substituted therefor when desiring to advertise other articles and the prices thereof. y

Another object of this invention is to provide a base within the frame and having fabric secured thereto for receiving the letters and numbers, forming a background thereto and to which the letters. and numbers will cling obviating the danger of the letters and numbers becoming disarranged upon the base.

A further object of this invention is to provide a plurality of spring catches or tongues pivoted to the base for an engagement with the notches in the frame for securely. fastening the base in the frame, whereby means is provided so that the base may be readily removed from the frame to change the letters and numbers upon releasing the catches or tongues.

A still further object of this invention is the provision of a sign holder of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

nation and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:

eferring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l indicates a substantially rectangular metallic frame having formed and eX- tending at right angles thereto a flange 2 for supporting a glass plate 3 located within the frame. The sides 4L of the frame l are bent back upon themselves as illustrated at 5, and the ends of which bear against the glass plate 3 for retaining the plate 3 into an engagement with the flange 2. The portion 5 is spaced from the sides of the frame l and has formed therein a plurality of notches 6 for the reception of the free end of a plurality of tongues or catches 7, which will be hereinafter more fully described.

A substantially rectangular base 8 constructed from cardboard or the like is positioned within the frame l and has secured thereon fabric 9 forming a background, which may be of any desired color, but preferably black. The fabric 9 is slightly spaced from the glass plate 3 for the reception of a plurality of letters and numbers as clearly illustrated in Fig. l. The letters and numbers are preferably cut from cardboard of a light color but may be constructed from any desired material and color. The letters and numbers are arranged upon the fabric and the fabric being of a rough nature, the letters-and numbers will cling thereto.

The tongues or catches 7 are constructed from resilient material and are pivoted to the base S in pairs so that their free ends may be swung to be received within the notches formed in the portion 5 of the sides of the frame, thereby securing the base within the frame, causing the letters and numbers to be tightly clamped between the glass plate 3 and the fabric 9.

Secured to the base are a plurality of securing elements 10 constructed from wire and having their` free ends pointed for the insertion intoV an article for supporting the frame l upon the article being advertised for sale.

From the 'foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that a sign holder has been provided which the lettering and numbering of same may be readily changed when desired by removing the back 8 and replacing the letters and numbers by others 01": different character when the device is being used upon another article of a different nature and different price. v

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my' invention, it will be understood that minor changes in Copies of this patent may be obtained for ive cents each, by addressing the construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: Y

A sign holder comprising a substantially rectangular frame, a flange formed on said frame, a glass plate within the frame and resting upon the iiange, said frame having its sides bent back upon themselves and the ends bearing against the glass plate and having a plurality of slots therein, a base positioned within said frame, spring tongues pivoted to the base and in engagement with the slots to retain the base in the frame.
