Abstract

An insole for placement inside a shoe for use in reducing over-pronation, associated misalignment of the patella (knee cap), and knee joint stress of a user. The insole has a top sheet and a support base cushion. The support base cushion has a forefoot mid-cushion area that extends from a toe end to a metatarsal area of the insole and an arch to heel area that extends from a metatarsal area to a heel end of the insole. The insole has a forefoot cushion secured to the forefoot mid-cushion area. The insole also has a medial support cradle, which reduces over-pronation and knee stresses, a lateral support cradle, which provides a side support to help reduce stress on the knee, and a heel cushion, which acts in cooperation with the medial support cradle to resist excessive pronation, all secured to the bottom of the support base cushion in the arch to heel area.

Description

Insole for reducing varus arch syndrome and knee joint force and manufacturing method thereof

The invention relates to the field of insole replacement of shoes.

When shoes are sold, shoes (especially sneakers) typically have an insole that is placed in the foot-receiving space. The insole is positioned such that when the shoe is worn, the user's foot will be placed on the insole. Typically, the insole is removable and replaceable with a replaceable insole that may take on a variety of different features that are advantageous to the user or that are particularly desirable for the user's foot.

In the normal arch of the foot (the foot is inclined to the inside when walking or running), it is usually moderate. However, specific individuals may cause biomechanical features of the varus arch of the leg and excessive internal rotation. It has been reported that people with these symptoms of varus arch arches also present a disorder of the tibia (knee bone).

In this report, due to biomechanical considerations, including the inherently higher quadric angle or Q angle, women will present more dislocations of the tibia than men, especially the inversion of the arch. The disorder of the humerus has been associated with the symptoms of the pedicle-femoral pain syndrome (PFPS, Patello-Femoral Pain Syndrome), which is one of the most common factors for knee pain in women.

A device for dealing with the above problems is described in U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 7,721,467, the disclosure of which is assigned to Spenco Medical Corporation.

The present invention is an insole for use in a shoe for restoring the dislocation of the varus arch of the tibia (knee bone) and reducing the stress on the knee of the user. The insole has a top piece and a supporting bottom pad. The support bottom pad has a forefoot mid-cushion region extending from a toe end to a metatarsal region of the insole; and a forefoot to heel region or rearward region extending from a tibial region to a heel end of the insole unit. The insole has a front foot pad that is secured to the midfoot pad area. The insole also has an intermediate support, a side support, and a heel pad, all secured to the bottom of the support bottom pad of the arch to the heel area.

The intermediate support is positioned below the arch region of the foot and provides a raised arcuate insole that also provides support to the user's foot arch. The intermediate support also extends rearwardly around the sides of the heel to provide a semi-rigid support and structure to the heel cover of the insole. The intermediate support can reduce the symptoms of varus arch and knee force.

The side support is a separate support that is positioned along the side of the insole supporting the bottom pad to provide a semi-rigid support and structure to the underside of the insole and under the tibial region. The side support can provide side support to the foot to reduce the force on the knee.

The heel pad has a portion under the heel of the foot that is in use to contact the inner bottom of the user's shoe; and a portion that is along the side of the heel end that supports the bottom pad, from the bottom of the insole Extend upwards. The structure of the heel pad provides a "soft spot" depending on the user's foot in the main impact area where the heel contacts the ground, which is the rear side of the heel and the heel end support on one side. The heel pad cooperates with the stiffer intermediate support to reduce the symptoms of varus arch. The insole is particularly suitable for adapting the tendency of the varus arch of the woman to the knee and the force of the knee.

A shoe insole reveals the symptoms of varus arch and the dislocation of the tibia that can be adjusted during walking or running.

The disclosed insole is the inner sole of the shoe for insertion into a user's shoes. It should be understood that although each foot may be somewhat different due to injury, wear, and heredity, the human body usually has a right foot and a left foot, and is usually mirrored to each other. Thus, a pair of shoes are typically mirrored to each other with two shoes; one shoe fits the wearer's right foot; the other shoe fits the wearer's left foot. The insole placed on the bottom of the shoe is usually also doubled. One of the insole of the pair is adapted to the inside of the shoe of the left foot, and the other is adapted to the inside of the shoe of the right foot. For purposes of illustration, only the right insole of the present invention is described, and it should be understood that a left insole and a right insole are mirror images of each other.

Generally, the insole of the present invention has a first top surface and a second bottom surface (adapted to be placed on the inner bottom of the user's shoe), a toe end and a heel end, and includes: (a) a top sheet, Essentially extending the entire length of the inner bottom of the complementary user shoe, and having a toe end and a heel end, a foot receiving top surface and an opposite bottom surface; (b) a supporting bottom pad extending substantially in the shoe The entire length of the bottom portion of the support bottom pad has a bottom surface of the bottom pad and a bottom surface of the bottom pad, the top surface of the bottom pad being fixed to the opposite bottom surface of the top sheet, the support bottom pad having a first forefoot mid-pad area from a toe The end extends to a region of the shin of the insole; and a forefoot to heel region or rearward region, extending from a tibia region to a heel end of the insole; (c) a forefoot pad having a first forefoot pad a surface of the front foot pad fixed to the bottom surface of the support bottom pad; and a bottom surface of the second front foot pad; (d) an intermediate support fixed to the bottom surface of the bottom pad of the support bottom pad; (e) one side support a body fixed to the bottom surface of the bottom pad of the support bottom pad; and (f) a heel pad fixed to Supporting the bottom of the bottom base cushion surface.

More particularly, the insole has a forefoot area and a forefoot to heel area. The arch to heel area is also known as the rearward area. On the second bottom surface of the insole, the arch-to-heel region further defines an intermediate support attachment region, a side support attachment region, and a heel pad attachment region.

From the top surface of the insole to the second bottom surface of the insole, the forefoot midsole region of the insole includes a portion of the topsheet, a portion of the support bottom pad, a forefoot midsole, and a forefoot pad. The forefoot midsole region extends from the toe end to a metatarsal region and ultimately to the forefoot region boundary.

The arch to heel region or rearward region includes a portion of the topsheet, a portion of the support bottom pad, a side support, an intermediate support, and a heel pad. The arch-to-heel region extends from a metatarsal region or adjacent the forefoot region boundary to the heel end.

An intermediate support is secured to the intermediate support attachment region of the arch to the heel region of the support base. The intermediate support has a bend that forms the arch support of the user's foot; and an intermediate heel support portion. The intermediate support has a raised apex of about 2.2 to 2.9 centimeters (cm) ± 0.2 centimeters (cm) when measured from a support surface (the shoe contact area in use) to the highest point of the intermediate arch. When the insole is used, the protrusion is adapted to be located in the arch of an adjacent user. The intermediate heel cap extends rearwardly from the projection and partially surrounds the heel portion of the insole whereby a heel cap is formed on the medial side of the insole.

The side support is fixed to the support bottom pad supporting the attachment area at the side.

The side support has a first insole bottom contact portion and a second side portion extending upwardly from the first insole inner bottom contact portion, thereby establishing support on the user's foot side. The intermediate support extends upwardly from the first insole bottom contact to a height of about 2.15 to 2.2 centimeters (cm). The side struts extend from the boundary adjacent the forefoot region intrinsically to (but not to) the heel end. The side support has a rear end adjacent to the heel pad attachment area of the support bottom pad.

The first insole contact portion of the side support has a top boundary that follows the shape of the front foot pad, providing a circular area (substantially semi-circular in a particular embodiment), using a mid-position on the user's foot Under the cheekbones. Preferably, the circular region is located adjacent to a tibial pad and is preferably integral with the support pad. The tibial pad can be integrally formed with the support pad by providing an indentation in the mold used to form the support pad. A raised area (or bump) is present when viewed from the top of the insole.

The indentation is filled with a polymer during the process and thus forms an upwardly extending portion of the support backing pad. Alternatively, but not prioritized, an additional tibial pad can be secured to a portion of the top surface of the base pad and then the two structures are secured to the top layer.

The width of the first insole bottom contact portion of the side stay gradually decreases as it extends from the circular area to the heel pad attachment area. This allows the support bottom pad to be exposed between the intermediate and side supports to provide resiliency in the exposed areas. When in use, the exposed area will directly contact the inner bottom of the user's shoe.

A heel pad is secured to the support bottom pad of the heel pad attachment area. The heel pad has a first inner shoe contact portion and a second upwardly extending side portion. The structure of the heel pad provides a "soft spot" depending on the user's foot in the main impact area where the heel contacts the ground, which is the rear side of the heel. The soft side boundary (ie, the upwardly extending side) is compressed at the contact, weakening the impact of the heel when it touches the ground and adjusting the ground reaction force. Therefore, the action can resist excessive arch inversion with the stiffer intermediate support. The soft bottom boundary of the heel pad acts to ease the area of the central heel. Preferably, the first inner shoe contact portion of the heel pad has a shape similar to that shown in FIG. This shape provides the most suitable soft spot in the main impact zone.

The width of the first inner shoe contact portion is from about 37 mm (mm) to about 48 mm (mm) ± 0.50 mm (mm) from the smallest to the largest insole. The length of the first inner shoe contact surface from the leading edge to the last edge is from about 38 mm (mm) to about 49 mm (mm) ± 0.50 mm (mm). For exemplary women's sizes 11-12, the preferred length is 49 mm (mm) and the width is 47.70 mm (mm). The depth of the heel pad extending upwardly from the first inner shoe contact region to the foot contacting surface ranges from about 3.0 to about 3.5 mm (mm) ± 0.50 mm (mm). For exemplary women's sizes 11-12, the preferred depth is 3.5 mm.

The second upwardly extending side portion of the heel pad forms a side portion of the heel bracing, however, the intermediate struts are provided as an intermediate portion of a heel bra, and cushioning and providing flexibility to the sides of the user's heel. The second upwardly extending side of the heel pad surrounds the region of the insole to the second side of the nearly adjacent side support.

The support bottom pad is preferably made of a cushioning material. Preferably, it is made of polyurethane (PU) and has a hardness of about 40 ASKER C ± 3.

The intermediate support is made of a very hard material such as thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The desired hardness is 64 TYPE D±3. Other materials can be used as long as the properties are similar. The side stays are made of the same or similar materials for the intermediate support.

The intermediate and side supports preferably have a thickness ranging from 0.5 mm (mm) to 1.5 mm (mm). If sufficient stability and support are to be provided, the thickness is preferably 1 mm (mm), but the support is also allowed to bend with the insole.

The front foot pad is preferably made of a cushioning material. Preferably, it is made of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and has a hardness of 21 ASKER C ± 3.

The heel pad preferably comprises a thermoplastic rubber gel (TPR).

Other gels may be used, but preferably, the gels used have the features described in the following paragraphs.

A SHORE/ASKER hardness test provides a measure of hardness. In the preferred embodiment, the heel pad measures 30 ASKER C ± 3.

The SHORE/ASKER hardness is measured using a commercial hardness meter. The material to be tested is placed on a hard, flat surface. The ASKER tester has a "C" rating and a suitable sawtooth type, typically a hemispherical type. The ASKER tester is placed on the material to be tested and there is no additional pressure. The pointer will be skewed to provide a reading.

The topsheet is made of a sheet of fabric in the shape of the insole or shape of the foot. When in use, the fabric is positioned adjacent to the foot and any fabric capable of supporting the underpad laminate construction can be selected. A preferred sheet material is a polyester fabric, but other fabrics such as bristles nylon and others can be used. Alternatively, a fabric that reduces friction between the material and the human foot can be used. The fabric can be of any desired color.

Preferably, an antimicrobial fabric such as an antimicrobial polyester is used. It is preferably an antibacterial fabric so that bacteria causing odor can be suppressed. Fabrics having these characteristics are commercially available. A suitable fabric utilizes sterling silver technology for antimicrobial purposes and is available through Thompson Research Associates (Toronto, Canada) fabrics using SILPURETM technology. In a preferred embodiment, the fabric sold under the trade name Ultra-Fresh Silpure FBR-5 provides good resistance to bacterial growth even after extensive washing. Other fabrics using other types of antimicrobial techniques can be used, preferably with long lasting effects.

The support bottom pad, the heel pad, and the intermediate and side struts are preferably formed through an injection molding process and secured to one another. Preferably, the mold used to make the insole has contours on both sides. This allows for faster assembly so that the mold does not necessarily change during the grinding process. The bottom pad mold is molded on one side of the mold, and the support and heel pads are molded on the other side of the mold. It is preferred to utilize a standard injection molding assembly line process, but any mold process having the disclosed structure disclosed herein is known in the art.

The overall thickness and size of the insole may vary with shoe size, application, and whether the insole is a removable insole or a permanent insole. The insole length of women ranges from about 231 mm (mm) to 299 mm (mm) and the width is close to the toe area from 76 to 99 mm (mm), with a maximum thickness of about 24 to 30 cm (cm). And the heel is raised 16 to about 21.5 cm (cm). In exemplary female sizes 11-12, the length is about 298 mm (mm) and the width is about 69 mm (mm) near the heel and about 98.4 mm (mm) near the tibia region. The size of the 11-12 insole ranges from about 4 mm (mm) to the heel to 21.5 mm (mm) close to the heel. The length and width of the insole will vary with the size of the shoe in which the insole is desired, but the thickness in the same relevant area will be similar to the exemplary insole.

Figures 1-9 illustrate the invention by showing an insole designed for the wearer's right foot. A skilled person can form an insole for a right foot that is mirror-formed from the left insole.

The support bottom pad (9) essentially extends the entire length of the inner bottom of the shoe and has a bottom pad top surface and a bottom pad bottom surface. The top surface of the bottom pad is fixed to the opposite bottom surface of the topsheet (6). The support bottom pad (9) further defines a first forefoot midsole region (20) and a forefoot to heel region (21). These areas are separated by the forefoot boundary (22).

The forefoot mid-pad region (20) includes a forefoot recess that extends the entire forefoot mid-pad region (20). The arch-to-heel region (21) includes a recess adjacent the side edge (5), the medial side (4) and the heel end (3). The recess near the intermediate side (4) extends rearwardly from the edge of the forefoot midsole region (20) to the heel end (3) and partially around the side of the heel end (3). The intermediate side recess also extends upward along the sides of the insole. The recess near the side edge (5) extends rearwardly from the edge of the forefoot mid-pad region (20) or the metatarsal region to the heel end (3) and stops at the short side of the heel end (3). The side recesses also extend laterally outwardly to support the sides of the bottom pad and are adjacent rearwardly to a heel end recess or a heel pad (13). The recess near the heel end (3) is located under the heel region of the insole and extends outwardly to the rear side of the insole and extends upwardly along the rear side of the insole.

A front foot pad (10) has a first front foot pad top surface and a second front foot pad bottom surface. The first forefoot top surface is fixed to the forefoot recess of the bottom surface of the support bottom pad of the forefoot mid-pad region (20). When in use, the bottom surface of the second front foot pad is located at the inner bottom of the adjacent shoe.

The shape of a front foot pad (9A) can be seen to complement the shape of the front foot pad (10). This shape has a first humeral head recess incorporated in the bottom of the support. The forefoot pad (10) includes a soft layer, preferably ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), and is filled in the space such that there is a soft spot under the first metatarsal head of the user's foot, when the insole is used, It is allowed to improve the posterior toe flexion during the advancement phase of the pace (ie, to promote the push of the foot).

The side support (12) follows the shape of the side recess. The side support (12) further defines a first in-shoe contact (12A) and a second side (12B). The first in-shoe contact (12A) is located along the bottom of the insole (1) and contacts the inner bottom of the shoe. The second side portion (12B) is located along the side edge (5) of the insole (1) and tapers from the trailing edge of the side support (12) to the leading edge of the side support (12).

A heel pad (13) has a top surface and a bottom surface, and the top surface is secured to the bottom surface of the bottom pad of the support bottom pad (9) adjacent the heel end (3) recess of the insole. The heel pad (13) follows the shape of the heel end recess. The heel pad further defines a side portion (13B). The side portion (13B) is located along the rear side of the insole, essentially between the intermediate heel support portion (11A) of the intermediate support (11) and the second side of the side support (12) ( 12B) between.

The selective vent (8) is defined via the insole. The vent (8) extends from the topsheet (6) to the front footpad (10) to extend the entire thickness of the insole (1).

2 is a top view of one embodiment of the present invention designed for the wearer's right foot. A shoe insole (1) has a first top surface and a second bottom surface adapted to be placed on a bottom of a user's shoe. The topsheet (6) provides a contact surface for contacting the user's foot (the foot may or may not have pantyhose or socks). A top piece (6) (not shown in Figure 3) extends substantially the entire length of the inner bottom of the complementary user shoe, and has a foot receiving the top surface and an opposite bottom surface and is secured to a supporting bottom pad (9).

The support bottom pad (9) essentially extends the entire length of the inner bottom of the shoe and has a bottom pad top surface and a bottom pad bottom surface. The top surface of the bottom pad is fixed to the opposite bottom surface of the topsheet (6). The support bottom pad (9) further defines a first forefoot midsole region (20) and a forefoot to heel region (21). These areas are separated by the forefoot boundary (22).

The forefoot mid-pad region (20) includes a forefoot recess that extends the entire forefoot mid-pad region (20). The arch-to-heel region (21) includes a recess adjacent the side edge (5), the medial side (4) and the heel end (3). The recess near the intermediate side (4) extends rearwardly from the edge of the forefoot midsole region (20) to the heel end (3) and partially surrounds the sides of the heel end (3). The intermediate side recess also extends upward along the sides of the insole. The recess near the side edge (5) extends rearwardly from the edge of the forefoot mid-pad region (20) or the metatarsal region to the heel end (3) and stops at the short side of the heel end (3). The side recesses also extend laterally outwardly to support the sides of the bottom pad and extend rearwardly adjacent a heel end recess or a heel pad (13). The recess near the heel end (3) is located under the heel region of the insole and extends outwardly to the rear side of the insole and extends upwardly along the rear side of the insole.

A front foot pad (10) has a first front foot pad top surface and a second front foot pad bottom surface. The first forefoot top surface is fixed to the forefoot recess of the bottom surface of the support bottom pad in the forefoot mid-pad region (20). When in use, the bottom of the second front foot pad is located adjacent the inner bottom of the shoe.

An intermediate support (11) has a top surface and a bottom surface, and the top surface is fixed to the bottom surface of the bottom pad of the support bottom pad (9) adjacent to the intermediate side (4) recess of the insole. The intermediate support (11) follows the shape of the intermediate side recess. The intermediate support (11) further defines an intermediate heel support portion (11A) and a foot arch portion (11B). The intermediate heel cap portion (11A) provides support around the heel along the medial side of the insole. The shape of the arch support (11B) follows the contour of the arch region of the insole and the foot.

The one side support (12) has a top surface and a bottom surface, and the top surface is fixed to the bottom surface of the bottom pad of the support bottom pad (9) adjacent to the side edge (5) of the insole. The side support (12) follows the shape of the side recess. The side support (12) further defines a first in-shoe contact (12A) and a second side (12B). The first insole contact (12A) is located along the bottom of the insole (1) and contacts the insole bottom. The second side portion (12B) is located along the side edge (5) of the insole (1) and tapers from the trailing edge of the side support (12) to the leading edge of the side support (12).

A heel pad (13) has a top surface and a bottom surface, and the top surface is secured to the bottom surface of the bottom pad of the support bottom pad (9) adjacent the heel end (3) recess of the insole. The heel pad (13) follows the shape of the heel end recess. The heel pad further defines a side portion (13B). The side portion (13B) is located along the rear side of the insole, essentially between the intermediate heel support portion (11A) of the intermediate support (11) and the second side portion (12B) of the intermediate support (12) )between.

The selective vent (8) is defined via the insole. The vent (8) extends from the topsheet (6) to the front footpad (10) to extend the entire thickness of the insole (1).

Figure 4 is a (middle) side view of the insole designed for the wearer's right foot. A shoe inner bottom (1) has a first top surface and a second bottom surface, and is adapted to be placed on a bottom of a user's shoe. The insole (1) further has a toe end (2), a heel end (3), a middle side (4) and a side edge (5) (not shown in Figure 4). A top piece (6) extends substantially the entire length of the inner bottom of the complementary user shoe, and has a foot receiving the top surface and an opposite bottom surface and is fixed to a supporting bottom pad (9).

In the display of Figure 4, one can particularly see some layers of the forefoot area. From top to bottom, the layers include a topsheet (6), a front midfoot pad (9A) (which may or may not be integral with the support pad (9)) and a front foot pad (10).

The support bottom pad (9) essentially extends the entire length of the inner bottom of the shoe and has a bottom pad top surface and a bottom pad bottom surface. The top surface of the bottom pad is fixed to the opposite bottom surface of the topsheet (6). The support bottom pad (9) further defines a first forefoot midsole region (20) and a forefoot to heel region (21).

The support base pad (9) further includes a tibial pad (7) extending upwardly from the support base pad (9) below the topsheet (6) under the tibial region of the foot. The thickness of the tibial pad (7) (the height extending on the top surface of the support bottom pad (9)) is preferably from 1.5 mm (mm) to 3.5 mm (mm). The preferred thickness is 2.00 mm (mm).

The forefoot mid-pad region (20) includes a forefoot recess that extends the entire forefoot mid-pad region (20). The arch-to-heel region (21) includes a recess adjacent the side edge (5), the medial side (4) and the heel end (3). The recess near the side edge (4) extends rearwardly from the edge of the forefoot midsole region (20) to the heel end (3) and partially surrounds the sides of the heel end (3).
