Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a hollow fiber membrane enhanced in pressure, heat and chemical resistance, with little change in the inner diameter thereby, by wetting the periphery of the original hollow fiber membrane with a liquid followed by heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:The periphery of a hollow fiber membrane consisting of e.g., a thermoplastic polymer such as tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer, polyethylene or polysulfone is wetted with a liquid (e.g., water, polyethylene glycol, ethanol) followed by heat treatment, thus obtaining the objective hollow fiber membrane. Said heat treatment is preferably carried out at temperatures high than the melting point of the hollow fiber membrane material, pref. up to the melting point plus 100 deg.C either in an inert gas or in a vacuum.
