Description
【発明の詳細な説明】
本発明は、複数の現像器を着脱交換できる画像
形成装置に関する。
カラー複写機は原稿を赤、緑、青の3色に色分
解して各色に対応する光像を該各色の補色である
シアン、マゼンタ、イエローの各トナーで各別に
現像するため、現像器を複数個必要とする。この
場合、各現像器を夫々別体に構成して静電潜像保
持体の周辺に並設することは装置が大型化する。
そこで、複数の現像器を内蔵し周面に該各現像器
の現像口を有し且つ静電潜像保持体に近接して回
動自在に設けたロータリ式現像装置が提案されて
いる。このロータリ式現像装置は小型化には極め
て有効ではあるが、現像に供しない現像口からの
トナーの漏泄および飛散に問題がある。
上記の漏泄および飛散したトナーが光学部品に
付着すると、光学特性を著しく損ない画質劣化に
つながり、電気部品に付着すると、短絡を生じ誤
動作の原因となる。また、機械部品の摺動部に付
着すると、摩耗を著しく促進して機械の耐久性を
低下させることになる。特に、カラー現像の場合
には漏泄および飛散したトナーが他色の現像器の
トナーに混入すると、正規のトナーで現像されな
い領域がコピー上に生じて見苦しい画像となる。
従来、上記の如き、トナーの漏泄および飛散を
防止するため、現像器の周囲にダクトの吸引口を
設けたものや、現像器の周囲をスポンジ弾性体で
囲つたものなどが提案されている。しかし、前者
は装置が大型化し高価になる。また、騒音も大き
い。後者は安価でスペースをとらないが、完全に
シールすることはむずかしく、長時間使用すると
漏泄および飛散したトナーの混色は無視できなく
なるという欠点があつた。
本発明は上記に鑑みなされたものであつて、複
写機等の画像形成機本体へ着脱交換することによ
つて所望の色の現像を行う現像装置において、着
脱交換部の小型軽量化を図り、着脱交換を簡単に
できるようにしたものである。
本発明は、夫々異なつた色の現像剤を像担持体
に付力する複数の現像器が同一箇所で着脱交換さ
れて色切替が行われる画像形成装置であつて、一
つの現像器設置箇所に対して夫々異なつた色の現
像剤を収容し、夫々供給口を有する複数のホツパ
ーから供給可能となつており、上記複数の現像器
の各々は、自身の使用する現像剤の色と同じ色の
現像剤を収容するホツパーの供給口のみに連通す
る補給口を有する、ことを特徴とする画像形成装
置である。
以下本発明の一実施例を図面により説明する。
第1図は本発明の一実施例を示す電子写真複写機
の概略断面図である。感光ドラム3は矢印方向に
回転する間にコロナ帯電器4により表面を帯電さ
れ、感光ドラム表面には結像素子アレイ2を通し
て露光された原稿の潜像が形成される。潜像は現
像器5によりトナーを与えられ現像される。
一方、転写シートPは給送ローラ6及びレジス
タローラ7によりドラム3面に送り込まれ、転写
用帯電器8によりドラム上のトナー画像の転写を
受ける。その後、シートは分離手段9によりドラ
ムから分離され、ガイド10上を通つて搬送路端
部に位置するローラ11により定着器12に送ら
れる。定着器12でシート上のトナー像は定着さ
れ、シートは排出ローラ13によりトレイ14上
に排出される。感光ドラム3上に転写されずに残
つたトナーは、クリーニング器15により回収さ
れる。1は移動する原稿台、16は原稿露光用の
照明系、17は熱線吸収フイルターである。
第2図及び第3図は第1図における現像器5の
拡大図である。現像器5はホツパー形の現像剤容
器部18と、感光ドラムへ現像剤を供給して潜像
の現像を行う現像部19に大別される。現像部1
9において、20は現像ローラー、21は現像剤
層厚規制部材、22は撹拌部材である。現像部1
9は複写機本体レール23につて摺動かつ着脱自
在であるから現像剤容器部18から完全に分離す
ることができる。現像部19の上部はスロツト状
の補給口19bが感光ドラムの中心軸に沿つて設
けられている。現像剤容器部18内には現像剤を
収容したホツパー18a,18b,18cが並設
されている。各ホツパーの下方には上記中心軸方
向にスロツト状の供給口が設けられ、供給口には
現像剤の供給量をコントロールするための補給ロ
ーラ24a,24b,24cが備えられている。
ホツパー18aの現像剤を使用する現像部の補
給口は第2図に示すように供給口に対応するよう
に位置づけられている。第2図の状態では補給ロ
ーラ24aのみが駆動可能にスイツチングするよ
うに、現像部19は形成されている。従つて、ホ
ツパー18b,18cから現像剤が補給されるこ
とはない。
第3図は、現像部をホツパー18b専用器に交
換した場合である。ホツパー18bの供給口に対
応して中央に補給口25bが設けられている。補
給ローラー24a,24cは作動せず、複写機本
体からの信号に基づいて補給ローラ24bが作動
して適宜、現像剤を現像部25内へ補給する。2
9はそれぞれのホツパーに対する蓋であり、現像
剤はここから色毎に別々に補給される。ホツパー
の容量は各色ともに同一の必要はなく、よく使う
色のホツパー容量を大きくすることができる。実
施例ではホツパー18aに赤色、18bに青色、
18cは容量を大きくして黒色の現像剤を貯蔵す
るようにしてある。
本発明によれば、画像形成装置へ現像器を着脱
する場合に、複数のホツパーを画像形成装置本体
に残したままで現像器のみを同一箇所で着脱可能
にし、その装着状態では、唯一台のホツパーから
現像剤の供給を受ける構成であるから、着脱部が
コンパクトな多色の現像を行うことのできる画像
形成装置を提供できる。 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus in which a plurality of developing units can be attached and detached and replaced. A color copying machine separates a document into three colors (red, green, and blue) and develops the light image corresponding to each color separately with cyan, magenta, and yellow toners, which are complementary colors of each color, so a developing device is used. Therefore, a rotary type developing device has been proposed, which includes a plurality of developing devices, has a developing port for each developing device on the circumferential surface, and is rotatably provided close to the electrostatic latent image holder. Although this rotary developing device is extremely effective for miniaturization, there is a problem in that toner leaks and scatters from a developing port that is not used for development. When the leaked and scattered toner adheres to optical components, it significantly impairs optical characteristics and causes deterioration of image quality, and when it adheres to electrical components, it causes short circuits and malfunctions. Furthermore, if it adheres to the sliding parts of mechanical parts, it will significantly accelerate wear and reduce the durability of the machine. Particularly in the case of color development, if leaked and scattered toner mixes with toner in a developing device of another color, areas that are not developed with the regular toner will appear on the copy, resulting in an unsightly image. Conventionally, in order to prevent toner from leaking and scattering as described above, it has been proposed to provide a duct with a suction port around the developing device, or to surround the developing device with an elastic sponge. However, in the former case, the device becomes large and expensive. It's also very noisy. The latter is inexpensive and does not take up much space, but it is difficult to achieve a complete seal, and when used for a long time, the color mixing of leaked toner and scattered toner cannot be ignored. The present invention has been made in view of the above, and in a developing device that develops a desired color by being detachably attached to the main body of an image forming machine such as a copying machine, the present invention aims to reduce the size and weight of the attachable and detachable part. It is designed to be easily detachable and replaceable. The present invention is an image forming apparatus in which a plurality of developing devices, each of which applies a developer of a different color to an image carrier, are installed and removed at the same location to perform color switching, and in which a single developing device is installed at one location. In contrast, each of the plurality of developing devices stores a developer of a different color and can be supplied from a plurality of hoppers each having a supply port, and each of the plurality of developing devices has a developer of the same color as the developer used by itself. The image forming apparatus is characterized in that it has a supply port that communicates only with a supply port of a hopper that accommodates developer. An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a schematic sectional view of an electrophotographic copying machine showing an embodiment of the present invention. The surface of the photosensitive drum 3 is charged by a corona charger 4 while rotating in the direction of the arrow, and a latent image of the original document exposed through the imaging element array 2 is formed on the surface of the photosensitive drum 3. The latent image is developed by being supplied with toner by the developing device 5. On the other hand, the transfer sheet P is fed onto the surface of the drum 3 by a feeding roller 6 and a register roller 7, and the toner image on the drum is transferred by a transfer charger 8. Thereafter, the sheet is separated from the drum by a separating means 9, passes over a guide 10, and is sent to a fixing device 12 by a roller 11 located at the end of the conveyance path. The toner image on the sheet is fixed by a fixing device 12, and the sheet is discharged onto a tray 14 by a discharge roller 13. Toner remaining on the photosensitive drum 3 without being transferred is collected by a cleaning device 15. 1 is a movable document table; 16 is an illumination system for exposing the document; and 17 is a heat absorption filter. 2 and 3 are enlarged views of the developing device 5 in FIG. 1. The developing device 5 is roughly divided into a hopper-type developer container section 18 and a developing section 19 that supplies developer to the photosensitive drum and develops a latent image. 9 is slidable and detachable on the copying machine main body rail 23, so that it can be completely separated from the developer container section 18 . A slot-shaped replenishment port 19b is provided in the upper part of the developing section 19 along the central axis of the photosensitive drum. Inside the developer container section 18 , hoppers 18a, 18b, and 18c containing developer are arranged side by side. A slot-shaped supply port is provided below each hopper in the direction of the central axis, and the supply port is provided with supply rollers 24a, 24b, and 24c for controlling the amount of developer supplied. The replenishment port of the developing section that uses the developer of the hopper 18a is positioned so as to correspond to the supply port as shown in FIG. In the state shown in FIG. 2, the developing section 19 is formed so that only the replenishment roller 24a is drivably switched. Therefore, developer is not replenished from the hoppers 18b and 18c. FIG. 3 shows a case where the developing section is replaced with a dedicated device for the hopper 18b. A supply port 25b is provided at the center corresponding to the supply port of the hopper 18b. The replenishment rollers 24a and 24c do not operate, and the replenishment roller 24b operates based on a signal from the copying machine main body to appropriately replenish developer into the developing section 25 . 2
Reference numeral 9 denotes a lid for each hopper, from which developer is supplied separately for each color. The hopper capacity does not need to be the same for each color, and the hopper capacity for frequently used colors can be increased. In the example, the hopper 18a is red, the hopper 18b is blue,
The capacity of 18c is increased to store black developer. According to the present invention, when attaching and detaching a developing device to an image forming apparatus, only the developing device can be attached and detached at the same place while leaving a plurality of hoppers in the image forming apparatus main body. Since the structure is such that the developer is supplied from the image forming apparatus, it is possible to provide an image forming apparatus that has a compact attachment/detachment section and is capable of performing multicolor development.
