Conventionally, this type of liquid crystal display element has a structure as shown in FIG. That is, the upper electrode substrate 1 and the lower electrode substrate 2 are formed with the segment electrodes 3 and the common electrodes 4 arranged in stripes, respectively. Therefore, the two electrode substrates 1 and 2 are opposed to each other so that the arrangement directions of the two electrodes 3 and 4 cross each other, the periphery thereof is sealed with a sealing material 5, and the liquid crystal 6, usually having a positive dielectric constant Anisotropic nematic liquid crystal is sealed through the sealing port 7, and the sealing port 7 is sealed with a sealing material 8. Then, polarizing plates 9 and 10 are disposed outside the two electrode substrates 1 and 2 such that their polarization axes cross each other or become parallel to each other.

The liquid crystal display element thus formed has two electrodes 3, 4
A voltage is applied to both electrodes 3 and 4 selected to turn on or off the liquid crystal at the intersection of. As this type of liquid crystal display device, for example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 51-13666 can be mentioned.

The above-mentioned prior art is based on a terminal side for supplying a signal to the common electrode 4.
Although the common electrode 4 is formed below the seal material 11, the common electrode 4 is not formed below the seal material 5 on the side 12 of the sealing port 7 for sealing the liquid crystal 6. For this reason, there is a gap between the terminal side 11 and the sealing port side 12, which causes uneven display color and uneven threshold, and has a problem that the adhesive force of the sealing material 5 is unstable. Further, in order to eliminate gap unevenness generated between the display unit and the seal unit, there is disclosed a technology of providing a dummy electrode to which no voltage is applied,
For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 62-229234 and 63-266427 disclose a dummy electrode which is located so as to face a plurality of segment electrodes (or common electrodes). The dielectric action caused by the application of the voltage causes display unevenness due to a cause different from that of the above-described conventional technology.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal display element which can eliminate color unevenness, threshold unevenness, and instability of the adhesive force of a sealing material and can obtain a uniform display.

The above object is achieved by forming a dummy electrode in a portion corresponding to a sealing material on the sealing port side.

By forming an electrode on the sealing port side in the same manner as the terminal side, a gap difference between the terminal side and the sealing port side is eliminated. Therefore, color unevenness and threshold value unevenness on the terminal side and the sealing port side are eliminated, and uniform display is possible. Also, since there is no gap difference, the adhesive force of the sealing material sealing both electrode substrates is also stabilized.

Hereinafter, an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. Note that the same or equivalent members as those in FIG.
The description is omitted. On the lower electrode substrate 2, in addition to the common electrode 4, a dummy electrode 13 is formed not to be connected to the common electrode 4 at a portion corresponding to the sealing material 5 on the sealing port side 12.

Therefore, as described above, the common electrode 4 and the dummy electrode 13 are used.
A liquid display element is assembled from the lower electrode 2 having the above structure and the upper electrode substrate 1 formed in the same manner as in the prior art by the same method as in the related art.

As described above, the common electrode 4 is formed below the sealing material 5 on the terminal side 11 and the dummy electrode 13 is also formed below the sealing port side 12. Can keep the gap uniform.

また本実施例に示すように、ダミー用電極13をコモン

Further, as shown in the present embodiment, the signal applied to the common electrode 4 is not adversely affected by not connecting the dummy electrode 13 to the common electrode 4.

According to the present invention, since the dummy electrode is formed below the sealing material on the sealing port side, the gap of the liquid crystal display element can be kept uniform, and color unevenness and threshold unevenness due to the gap difference are prevented. Uniform display becomes possible. Also, since there is no gap difference, the adhesive strength of the sealing material is stabilized.
