Abstract

Polyesteramides melting at 100 DEG C.-330 DEG C. contain the residue of (a) carbonic acid or a dicarboxylic acid, (b) a dihydroxy compound at least 50 mol. per cent of which is 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol and (c) an aminoalcohol in an amount of 10-50 mol. per cent based on component (a). Specified dicarboxylic acids are oxalic, adipic, succinic, suberic, azelaic, sebacic, glutaric, dimethylmalonic, a -ethylsuberic, a ,a -diethyladipic, orthophthalic, terephthalic, cyclohexanedicarboxylic, naphthalenedicarboxylic, norcamphanedicarboxylic, p-carboxycarbanitic, hexahydro -ophthalic, trans-hexahydroterephthalic p, p1-sulphonyldibenzoic, sulphonyldipropionic, dimerized fatty 4,41-diphenic acid and 4, 41-benzophenone dicarboxylic acids; also, b , b 1-dicarboxy diethyl ether and 1, 2-di(p-carboxyphenyl)alkenes. Specified dihydroxy compounds are ethylene glycol, 1, 10-decanediol, neopentyl glycol, 1,4-bis(hydroxymethyl) benzene, norcamphanedimethanol, di- and triethylene glycol, 2-methyl-1, 5-pentanediol, 2,2-dimethyl -3- isopropyl-1, 3-propanediol and low polymers which may contain internal ether, thioether, sulphone, ester or urethane groups (e.g. polyethylene glycols and dihydroxylated polystyrene). Specified aminoalcohols are 4-aminomethyl-cyclohexanedimethanol, 5-aminopentanol -1, 5-amino -2- ethyl pentanol-1, 2-(4-b -hydroxyethoxyphenyl)-1-aminoethane, 3-amino-2, 2-dimethylpropanol and hydroxyethylamine. The polyester may be made by the melt phase or solid phase technique using di-esters of the dicarboxylic acids or starting materials. They may be used in the preparation of fibres, films, moulded articles and coatings.
