Abstract
691,669. Magnetic switches; control of motors. ORGRYTEVERKEN AKTIEBOLAG. Jan. 25, 1952 [Feb. 6, 1951], No. 2168/52. Classes 38(iii) and 38 (v) A device for periodically reversing the direction of rotation of a motor which may drive a washing machine, and for providing a short interval of time between the actuation of two sets of contacts, comprises a tube 2 rockable about an axis 1 and containing a ball 3 or other member of magnetic material adapted to slide slowly down the tube till it comes adjacent a magnet or member of magnetic material mounted on a lever 13 and causes the lever to tilt about an axis 14 and actuate contacts causing the motor to rotate. The motor, in addition to driving the washing machine, drives a stud 6 about the axis 1 till the stud engages the end of a slot 5 in an arm 4 and carries round with it the arm 4 and tube 2, the tube sliding along the magnet. When the tube has passed its horizontal position, a spring 11 has been carried past a dead-centre position and tilts the tube rapidly into its other position adjacent another lever and magnet 13. The motor is now de-energized and the ball 3 slides slowly down the tube 2 at a rate determined by a valve 8 controlling the passage of fluid between the ends of the tube, and eventually actuates the second lever 13 and the contacts associated therewith causing the motor to rotate in the reverse direction.
