Abstract
349,752. Respirators; valves; DR€GER, O. H., 53, Moislingerallee, Lubeck, Germany.-(Assignee of Drager, E. ; Lubeck, Germany.) May 6, 1930, No. 13951. Convention date, May 25, 1929. [Class 81 (ii).] In a closed-circuit respirator comprising a respiration bag 4, Fig. 1, mouthpiece 10, inhalation and exhalation valves 8, 9 and gas - absorbent cartridge 5 the oxygen supply from a cylinder 1 is controlled bv a valve 20 situated directly in the path of, and operated by, the circulating gases. As shown the valve 20 is carried by a lever 17 pivoted at 18 and connected at its other end to a spring- pressed valve 15 controlling the flow of oxygen from a pipe 13. The valve 20 co-operates with a seating 21 on a pipe 23 leading from the canister 5 and forming part of a casing 19 which encloses the lever 17 and communicates with the bag 4. The valve may, if desired, serve as the exhalation valve, the valve 9 being dispensed with. In modifications: (1) the casing 19 and associated parts may be situated on the inhalation side of the bag 4 and the valve 20 may then serve as the inhalation valve ; (2) the valve 15 may be replaced by a conical plug such as 15b, Fig. 7, the lever 17, Fig. 1, being pressed against the top of the plug by a spring placed between the lever and the pipe 23, or, as shown at 17b, Fig. 7, being pivoted at 18a and connected with the valve through two other levers 25, 26, the lever 26 being provided with a spring 14c; (3) the valve 20 may be cupped ; (4) the casing 19 and its parts may be arranged as in Fig. 4, the valve 15 being connected to the long arm of the lever 17 as shown or to a short extension of the lever, the valve in this case opening against the gas pressure in the pipe 13.
