Abstract

1431211 Bone cements SULZER BROS Ltd 1 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 26269/73 Heading C3P A bone cement comprises an essentially anhydrous pasty or dough-like composition of ingredients including or consisting of:-(a) a liquid component comprising by weight of the liquid component at least 50% of monomeric methyl methacrylate, up to 5% of a tertiary amine as accelerator and between 10 and 45% of at least one C 2 -C 6 -alkyl methacrylate; (b) a powder component including or consisting of polymethylmethacrylate as filler; and (c) a catalyst. In the example the cement comprises isobutyl methacrylate, dimethyl-p-toluidine, methyl methacrylate, hydroquinone, polymethyl methacrylate and benzoyl peroxide. The cement may also contain an inorganic inert X-ray contrast agent, e.g. barium sulphate or zirconia. The solid component and liquid component may be stored separately and mixed before use.
