Abstract
1,181,383. Injection moulding. INSTITUT FUR SCHIENENFAHRZEUGE. 1 May, 1967, No. 19981/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B7] In a method of producing a shock- and soundabsorbing wheel body, a reinforcing material, e.g. glass fibre, is placed in a mould chamber 1, and synthetic resin injected into the chamber by means of air pressure or vacuum, the mixture being pressed against the walls of the chamber 1 by a pressure differential existing between the chamber 1 and a second chamber 3, the chambers 1 and 3 being separated by a resilient membrane 6. In one example (Fig. 1) a thermosetting resin in a container 13 is injected into the mould chamber 1 by pressure applied at 14. Compressed air is supplied to chamber 3 through a nozzle 4 in a cover 5. In a second example (Fig. 2) a double disc wheel body is produced in a mould 16, 17 having a resilient core 3 which remains in the moulded article. Injection is effected by applying a vacuum through a pipe 20a so that resin is drawn into mould chamber 1 from a storage container 25. Suction is also applied through a pipe 20 to the interior of the core 3 so that when air is re-admitted to the core the resin and glass fibre are pressed against the mould walls.
