A device for assisting in the removal of a pneumatic tyre from a wheel rim comprises a beam 2 for attachment to a wheel to span the hub thereof, a base 15 for securing the beam 2 to the wheel intermediate the ends of the beam, a wedge member 11 mounted on the beam 2 for engagement with the bead region of a pneumatic tyre mounted on the wheel or with the detachable rim flange 31 of the wheel, a fluid pressure operated thrust jack 13 for urging the wedge member 11 against the bead region of the tyre or the flange 31 to unseat the bead region of the tyre from the wheel rim, and a rim flange engagement member 3 mounted on the beam 2 at the end remote from the wedge member 11 for preventing transverse movement of the beam relative to the wheel during the unseating of the tyre bead. The base 15 comprises a rigid member in the form of a metal tripod 16 and a rigid metal bar 17 which is adjustably secured to the beam 2. Three metal supports 18 are secured to the upper ends of the legs 19 of the tripod and extend radially inwardly to the axis of the tripod where they are welded together. Each support 18 is provided on its uppermost surface with a series of steps 20 which co-operate to form horizontal surfaces for supporting the various sizes of wheel hubs. The radially inner ends of the supports 18 are provided with recesses 21 which house a cylindrical portion 22 formed integrally with a forked member 23 to which is pivotally mounted the rigid bar 17. The rim flange engagement member 3 is slotted adjacent one end for sliding reception of the beam 2 to which it is adjustably secured. The ends 7 of the slot engage the sides of the beam to prevent relative rotation of the beam and member 3. The other end of the member 3 is provided with two rim locating studs 8 which with the end surface 9 of the member 3 engage the radially and axially outermost edges of the wheel rim flange respectively. The device is adjustable for use with varying sizes of wheels by means of co-operating series of holes provided in the beam 2, the rigid bar 17 and the member 3, these parts being secured together in any selected position by pins passing through the registering pairs of holes. In a second embodiment the rigid bar 17 is replaced by a chain which is adjustably secured to the beam 2 by means of a hook which is slidable along the beam.
