Abstract
Wear resistant piece made from hard metal, such as a cutting tool or blade, e.g. for machining steels and other hard materials is covered in those places where the wear occurs when is use, with >=2 layers of carbide or carbonitride, and carbonitrids, nitride or oxynitride of gps. III-VI metal selected from Ti, Hf, Zr, Al, Cr and Be. The layers are free of binder metal and differ from one another only in the contents of C, N and O. The double coating exhibits improved resistance to removal by lifting and reduces the incidence of wear by pitting compared with the application of a single coating as in prior art.
