Suffolk Fire Officials Urge Caution As Dry Conditions Continues
Residents were urged to limit recreational activities "due to ongoing dry conditions," and use best practiced for fire safety.
YAPHANK, NY — Suffolk fire officials are warning residents to take precautions in light of drier conditions.
In a Facebook post Sunday, the county's Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services urged residents to be cautious and limit recreational activities "due to ongoing dry conditions."
Officials urged fire safety best practices like avoiding open flames and recreational fires, as well as keeping a fire extinguisher nearby when using a fire pit or grill. It was also suggested that residents ensure fires are completely out before leaving by dousing with water and stirring the ashes.

Burning on windy days should be avoided as even a small breeze can spread embers quickly, officials said.
