Public Storage Units In Columbia Burglarized In Overnight Hours: Howard County Police

Multiple storage units at Public Storage in Columbia were broken into recently and various items stolen, according to police.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Public Storage units located at 9002 Red Branch Road in Columbia were broken into in the overnight hours of July 16-17, according to the Howard County Police.

A police report stated that the suspect(s) broke into multiple storage units and stole various items from those units.

In 2016, burglars targeted 73 storage units in Columbia. According to Howard County Police, the suspects cut the locks off the units at the Mini U Storage located in the 9400 block of Snowden River Parkway. In 2010, three men were arrested for breaking into 259 self storage units across Howard and Anne Arundel counties in a two-month span.

According to Janus International Group, most thefts happen when suspects cut a lock on a unit to gain access. Smart locks, however, eliminate the threat of a lock being cut by allowing access to units digitally.
