I am an administrator on Odia (or) Wikipedia. But Admins are not granted "Special:Import" rights or its a bug I do not know. Its been several months I have repoted a bug at bugzilla here. Can you please look into it. And If it is a bug, can't be resolved soon, can I get Import rights on or.wiki if that works. If you are replying late, whisper me back on my talk page please. Thank You in advance :-) -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 06:40, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Ansumang. The delay was caused by a misunderstanding, so it can be resolved pretty quickly. The import right lets you copy edit histories from specific wikis ("transwiki import sources"). You need to specify which wikis you want to import from. For example, see a screenshot with wikimediafoundation.org available as an import source. —Pathoschild 16:13, 08 April 2012 (UTC)
- Well en.wikipedia and commons:. But I am little confused now, couldn't find detailed info. Admins can be granted only "import" rights or both "import" and "Transwiki import" rights ? Because I see two User groups "Importer" and "Transwiki Importer". And here w:Wikipedia:User_access_levels#importupload page I see the importupload permission denied for Admins. One more thing here its written "So if you have your own MediaWiki installation, then you should be able to see the 'Special:Import' page there." Does that mean to upload a xml file I need MediaWiki installed in my system? Please do reply. Thanks a ton :-) -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 21:16, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- There are two ways to import edit histories:
- Transwiki import (import) lets you import an edit history from a predefined wiki, by specifying the wiki and page name you want to import. You cannot import from any wiki that is not predefined for importing, and you cannot modify what is imported. This is fairly safe, though it can be unreliable when importing large edit histories.
- XML import (importupload) lets you upload an XML file which represents an article edit history. This is very flexible — you can import any article from any wiki, modify it before upload, or even create a whole new history. However, this is considered dangerous — it is very easy to forge edit histories using this method, which can break attribution and be very difficult to undo.
- There's no technical limitation against giving users both rights, but XML import is almost never allowed on Wikimedia wikis; transwiki import is normally sufficient. —Pathoschild 14:21, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

- Hope the bug get resolved soon. Thanks a lot, am grateful :) -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 19:08, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Regarding this bug, was there any kind of discussion about enabling that on Odia Wikipedia? — [ Tanvir | Talk ] 11:15, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- No. -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 17:17, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- That is not a good practice. You should inform communities (even if that's an inactive one) before having any site change. Just to keep the log. Since it is done now, I hope you will do so in future. — [ Tanvir | Talk ] 02:51, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- Okay Tanvir. I am sorry, I din't do that. I will do so in future for sure. Thanks for your concern, appreciated. -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 05:52, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

- Editor flag
Hello Tanvir, I have been thinking Can we have Editor rights on Odia Wikipedia just to have few regular editors feel special ? If that possible, can you tell me what is the procedure to enable that. AFAIK Its just a rghts with no extra tool, correct me if I am wrong. Thanks :-) -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 06:05, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- What kind of rights you need with the editor flag there? I think a autopatrol flag should be enough satisfy them. :) — [ Tanvir | Talk ] 05:05, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know what rights the editor flag has ? I am talking about users whom we can't give autopatrol flag. I am talking about a flag just for sake of giving one, kind of autoconfirmed!. I have seen editor flag on wikis. Is that possible ? :-/ -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 11:01, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- This is indeed possible. You have to figure out the rights you want to put in editor flags, and then see if they exist in your wiki already, if so, then get a consensus and after than file a new bug in Bugzilla. Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions, but I often forget to see your talk page, so if I don't answer in few days, please poke me on my talk page. Thanks. — T. 09:25, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Tanvir. I will do the necessary and poke you. There are some other minor interface issues on Odia Wiki, I ll discuss those soon :-) -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 19:05, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to the IEG Committee
[edit]Hi Ansumang,
Thanks for signing up to join the Individual Engagement Grants Committee! It is my pleasure to confirm your 2013 membership. Because you've also submitted a grant proposal for this round, we have listed you as a recused member for round 1 review. To avoid conflicts of interest, the committee is discussing the precise guidelines for members who have themselves submitted a grant proposal. You would be welcome to join the discussion there. Depending on the outcomes of that discussion, you may be asked to participation a bit differently than members who have not submitted current proposals for this round. Still, we’ve got a lot of different kinds of tasks to accomplish together as a committee, and it will be great to have your support as you are able. Here is how to get started:
To make your membership official, please do 2 things by February 11th:
- Introduce yourself in the IdeaLab.
- Send your email address to IEGrantswikimedia.org, so that we can subscribe you to the committee mailing list, pending the outcome of the guidelines discussion.
Then there are 2 first tasks for active committee members to start on right away:
- Review information in the Committee Workroom (your new organizing hub on meta), including responsibilities and the review process. Feedback and questions are very welcome at this stage.
- Start giving feedback on open ideas, drafts and proposals. Asking questions to gather information we’ll need to make a recommendation helps prospective grantees think their projects all the way through, and will give us more great proposals to choose from.
Thanks again for joining this new grantmaking program...I hope we’re going to see some amazing impact from these grants! :-) Siko (WMF) (talk) 07:23, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hey thanks very much. As I am recused from the first round, let me know if there is anything "I shouldn't do". Thanks. -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 11:36, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

IEG design
[edit]Hi Ansuman, I noticed you are tweaking some of the IEG page designs. In the future, it might be a good idea to discuss proposed design changes for these pages ahead of time on a talk page with Heatherawalls, our designer. She's done a lot of thinking about the pages and sometimes the design choices she's made, even regarding things like margins and blank space, are done for a pretty specific reason that are worth discussing before changing. Thank you!! Siko (WMF) (talk) 21:32, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry! I hope I didn't clutter anything. I saw a message on the talk page, and increased the box. I'd definitely discuss next time onwards if I want to make any changes. Thanks! -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 21:40, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review
[edit]I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.
All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:38, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.
Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,
