Value constraint can also be political party not only human
editCan we can constraint to also allow instance of political party? --222.127.85.175 13:31, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
In parliament elections, should this property be used for both parties and their (successful) candidates, or just for one of them (and which one)?--Shlomo (talk) 19:30, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
- Maybe it should depend on the type of election? I would say that if voters are voting for particular candidates, and not for parties, just list the successful individual candidates. If they're voting for party lists, I'm not sure. --Yair rand (talk) 20:49, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- There are various types of elections - sometimes the voters can combine a defined number of candidates from various lists; sometimes they have to choose one list, but they can support particular candidates' position with preference votes; sometimes the list is closed and the voter can only accept or refuse it. Even in the first case, the party can be called "successful", since it has gained some influence through it's successful candidate(s). And even in the last case, the mandate is given to the particular candidates, not to the party; and it will remain with them even if they leave the party the day after the election.
- Also, there are elections where only candidates appointed by a party can take part, while in other elections independent candidates are allowed.--Shlomo (talk) 09:54, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Definition of "successful"
editSome clarifications needed:
- In the election to a collective body, is becoming a substitute considered "success"? Or is it conditioned on really obtaining the function during the election period in question? Or just the first-liners?
- Is a candidate considered "successful", if he got enough votes, but from some other reason wasn't inaugurated to the aimed office?
- In the first round, is advancing to the next round of election considered "success"?
- Is becoming a deputy/vice considered "success", when the election was made to determinate the office holder (=winner) and his/her deputy (=2nd best)
Opinions? --Shlomo (talk) 19:20, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Shlomo: Re 3: In my opinion yes, if the item is specifically about the first round. Re 4, are there any elections that actually work like that? --Yair rand (talk) 20:45, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Yair rand: Re 4: E.g. presidential elections in USA before the 12th ammendment...--Shlomo (talk) 09:58, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
List of elected members of parliament as valid value
editIn many cases we have lists of members of a parliament period like Q1846475. These represent a valid value for winning an election like 2008 Hamburg state election (Q836394) in my opinion as well. --Aeroid (talk) 17:45, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Property for party list
editWhich property is the most appropriate for specifying the party a candidate is elected for in elections with party lists? We have member of political party (P102), but being a member of a political party and being elected on the party list is not strictly the same (people might leave the party the day before the election after all ballots have been printed, or they may for whatever reason run as an independent candidate despite being members of a party). For members of the European Parliament I have seen represents (P1268) and parliamentary group (P4100) being used as qualifiers for position held (P39) to express the national party and the EP party group, respectively (see e.g. Q446991#P39). Following that example, it seems represents (P1268) would work. Any better suggestions? --C960657 (talk) 21:04, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
