Description

The Nexus (plural Nexi, Nexuses, nexūs) is the fundamental building for the Protoss. It warps in the Protoss worker, the Probe. Since patch 4.0.0, after the Fleet Beacon is built, the Nexus can also produce the Mothership. The Nexus is also capable of casting the Chrono Boost spell, which gives a bonus to production and research. All harvested minerals and Vespene Gas must be returned by Probes to the Nexus in order to become available for use. Along with the Assimilator and Pylon, the Nexus is one of only a few Protoss structures that does not require a Psionic Matrix. While Nexuses can theoretically be built anywhere on the map, they are almost always built as close as possible to mineral patches and Vespene Geysers.

At the beginning of the game, Protoss players start with an initial Nexus, providing 15 supply points, and twelve initial Probes. From that first Nexus, the player can immediately warp in additional Probes.

A Shield Battery built in range 12 of a Nexus starts with full energy.

Abilities

Chrono Boost

Caster: Nexus 50 Hotkey: C Places target structure in a Chrono Boost, causing it to operate 50% faster for 20 seconds.

Strategic Recall

Caster: Nexus 50 Cooldown: 130 s Duration: 4 s Radius: 2.5 Hotkey: R Recalls all units owned by the player in the target area to the Nexus.

Energy Recharge

Caster: Nexus 50 Range: 12 Cooldown: 60 s Hotkey: B Instantly recharges 100 energy to a unit near a Nexus.

Battery Overcharge

Caster: Nexus 50 Range: 8 Cooldown: 60 s Duration: 14 s Hotkey: b Overcharges a target Shield Battery near a Nexus, increasing its shield restoration rate by 50% and allowing it to restore shields without consuming energy for 14 seconds.

Patch Changes

Patch 4.0.0

Chrono Boost costs 50 energy and causes the target structure to operate 100% faster for 10 seconds. Nexus now has energy, 200 maximum. Nexus starting energy is 50. "Mass Recall" ability recalls units owned by the player in the target area to the Nexus. 50 energy cost. Warp out pause duration is 3.6 seconds. Warp in duration is 0.4 seconds. 130 second global cooldown for all Mass Recalls across all Nexus structures.

Patch 4.1.1 Balance Update
Chrono Boost strength reduced from 100% to 50% and duration per cast increased from 10 seconds to 20 seconds.

Patch 4.1.4 Balance Update
Mass Recall warp-in time increased from 0 seconds to 0.7 second.

Patch 4.7.1
Mass Recall renamed to Strategic Recall. Strategic Recall radius decreased from 6.5 to 2.5. Strategic Recall cooldown decreased from 130 to 85 seconds. Chrono Boost will now display a visual status on boosted structures.
