LEAPFROGGING RETAILS - The Story of Copia Global
It's Day 4 and we're chilling in Kenya! We got here some hours back and the startup spotlight shone brightly on Copia Global.
Let's Go!!!
What is Copia Global?
Copia Global is a B2C E-Commerce startup that provides a customer catalog order and delivery system intended to serve consumers in the developing world.
Using over 50,000 agents across Kenya, Copia Global provides a seamless shopping experience to her 2Million customers.
Till date, Copia Global has delivered over 13 million orders to her customers regardless of their income or location.
❓How Do they Do it?
1️⃣The first step in the process involves a customer visiting a nearby agent or the website.
2️⃣Next, the customer selects the items they need from the agent's catalogue or from the website.
3️⃣After the order is placed, payment is done via mobile money.
4️⃣And within 2-4 days, the customer gets their order which would have been delivered to the nearest agent collection point.
There are four main customer channels which are:
1. The Copia App
2. Copia Agents
3. The Copia Website
4. USSD.
💡Here's a Fun Fact!
People that do not have access to the internet can still access the services. I mean, that's why the agents are there.
Copia is working to serve the middle and low income Africans.

💊Consumers can get their product needs at affordable prices, even while saving time and additional expenses.
💊Stakeholders, including manufacturers, agents and consumers, are provided with a logistical ecosystem for consumers to get the highest quality products at the lowest possible costs.
💊Copia uses data and analytics to provide stakeholders with critical information about the market.
Every Successful Startup has a story and we'll be exploring Copia's Story!
Follow along...
The co-founders (Tracey Turner & Jonathan Lewis) of Copia were friends and colleagues at Silicon Valley.
In the early 2000s, they individually founded their own fintech companies.
🤸Skip over to 2010...
The friends met in San Francisco to brainstorm new ideas for their next endeavors.
Jonathan had a brilliant idea around a household goods catalog in emerging markets.
Before smartphones, fintech loan officers would travel to physically collect loan repayments, providing an opportunity to deliver household goods as well.
And voila! The idea that bore Copia was born!!
Officially launched in 2013, Copia started in Kenya. And it has been a rollercoaster of wonders and innovation, ever since!
In one post, we've been able to capture the story of Copia Global!
It doesn't stop there though.
