On October 3rd, our CEO Makiko Ono was invited by the Center on Japanese Economy and Business (CJEB) at Columbia Business School in New York to give a speech on the globalization and sustainability of Suntory Beverage & Food (SBF). Makiko gave a substantial talk on the history of SBF and strategies for future growth, and our commitment to DEI and sustainability. More than 200 students, graduates, and CJEB affiliates gathered in the audience and listened intently to Makiko’s speech. After the speech, Professor David E. Weinstein moderated a Q&A session. Many questions were raised by the audience, indicating the high level of interest in SBF's business. Earlier this month, our CEO Makiko Ono visited Pepsi Bottling Ventures (PBV) in North Carolina, USA. PBV is a Joint Venture of Suntory and PepsiCo, and 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of our partnership. We held a townhall, and together with PBV team members, we celebrated our 25-year legacy🥂 At the townhall, Makiko shared Suntory’s Global Vision focusing on how we are collaborating to build our future. PBV team members actively participated in the discussion, making it a meaningful two-way communication opportunity. We committed to thinking about all of our team members as much as we think about the business. The townhall was followed by a factory tour and market tour where we had meaningful conversation with team members at the Gemba (on-site place where value is added), discussing what is going well, what could be better, and how we can help. A proud moment for Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand) and Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand)! Alongside environmental experts, we visited the 10 finalists of Mizuiku Water Model School in Chonburi and Rayong. This onsite visit marked the final round of Mizuiku Water Model School Contest under the “One Suntory Mizuiku Program 2024”. All 30 schools that participated in the Water Hero Camp in June implemented inspiring water and environmental conservation projects after the camp. They focused on policy, stakeholder participation, infrastructure, and community engagement while forming “Mizuiku Club” to sustain their water conservation efforts for long-term impact. Through this program, student and teacher leaders have spread water conservation awareness to over 8,000 students! Congratulations to Petch Pittayakom School (Chonburi) and Chumchon Borisat Namtan Tawanaok School (Rayong) for winning this contest! 👏Makiko Ono, CEO of Suntory Beverage & Food (SBF), has been named one of Fortune Most Powerful Women (MPW) 2024👏 MPW 2024 has selected the 100 most powerful women in the world from six continents, 19 countries and territories, and 14 different industries. These 100 executives possess significant influence in the business environment and embody the qualities and capabilities of leaders. Three Japanese were named this year, and one of them was Makiko! In 2024, SBF faced a challenging environment of higher raw material prices and a weak yen, but under Makiko's outstanding leadership, SBF achieved a 9% increase in revenue and a 20% increase in operating income in the first half of 2024, to $5.7 billion and $412 million. Makiko Ono, CEO of Suntory Beverage & Food (SBF), has expressed her commitment to accelerating international business expansion🌏 Makiko was recently interviewed by Le Figaro in France about SBF's global developments. SBF's industrial activities have been steadily expanding both domestically and internationally, including the recent establishment of new factories in Australia and Southeast Asia. “Most of the growth potential lies outside of Japan,” Makiko stated.
