Wyoming
The least populous state in the United States, Wyoming is located in the Great Plains region of the Western United States. Mining is the largest contributor to Wyoming’s economy. Natural gas, coal, and petroleum lead the way, followed by sodium carbonate, uranium, gold, iron, and various clays. Tourism is another leading industry in the state’s economy, featuring several world-class ski resorts and national parks that bring in tourists year-round. Each year approximately six million people visit the state’s national parks and monuments, including three million who travel to Yellowstone National Park. The federal government owns half of Wyoming’s land, including these national parks and areas used for mining. Wyoming’s lack of individual and corporate income tax makes it especially attractive to businesses.
