Etymology 1
[edit]A ‘reverse nisba’ construction from jmj (“(one) being in”) + r (“mouth”), thus literally ‘one in whom the mouth is’, implying ‘one who gives commands’. The written form is abbreviated to omit the weak consonants.

Titles based on jmj-r generally refer to a higher position than analogous titles with ḥrj or jrj.
