Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *griś-, from Proto-Indo-European *gwer-s- (to raise one’s voice, lift up a cry; set up a clamour), from *gʷerH-. Cognate to Lithuanian gar̃sas (call, sound). Also compare Old English gröetan (assail, greet), Old High German gruozen (weeping, cry).[1]
