[edit]From Middle Welsh gorchymyn, from Proto-Brythonic *gworxumɨnn (compare Old Cornish gurhemin, Middle Breton gourchemenn), from *gwor- (“over”) + *kumɨnn (from Latin commendō (“commend; recommend”). By surface analysis, gor- + cymyn (“testament; bequest”).
