[edit]From cagar (“to defecate”) + -òl (diminutive), from Latin cacāre, Occitan humor. Also probably influenced by similar sounding Latin cochlea (“a snail”), from Ancient Greek κόχλιας (kókhlias, “a snail with a spiral shell”).
