User talk:Madina
Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contribution so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including, there is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
- The FAQ aim to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.
Again, welcome! --EncycloPetey 04:58, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Multiple edits
[edit]You can add multiple translations at the same time - then just save them all once, rather than doing dozens of edits. SemperBlotto 07:10, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, thank you! That's much better. Madina 07:21, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Transliteration
[edit]Hi. Thanks for adding those translations. I'm interested what transliteration systems do you use, if any? For example, for Tajik, Kazakh, Chuvash, etc.? --Vahagn Petrosyan 09:03, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Don't mean to be annoying, but seriously, what transliteration schemes do you use? I too add translations in those languages, for most of which we don't have an official transliteration schemes like for Kazakh yet. So, I want us to be coordinated. --Vahagn Petrosyan 09:04, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi. For the Turkic languages, except Uyghur, I use the turkological transcription used in Turkey. For Uyghur I use the official Latin alphabet by the Chinese government. For transliterating Tajik I use the 1926-1929 official Latin script, which you may seen used in the Tajik Wikipedia. --Madina 02:14, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Is this turkological transcription available on-line? If not, can you e-mail me the transliteration tables, if you have them electronically? I like the schemes you use and want to codify them as standards for Wiktionary. Besides, there is a plan to introduce automatic transliteration, for which too I need the standards. --Vahagn Petrosyan 11:53, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

The entry you added uses ʻ, but the form in the descendants section of گوشت is go‘sht- which one is correct? Nadando 22:02, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- AFAIK, the correct one is that used by me. Madina 22:48, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Userpage?
[edit]It would be great if you could put {{Babel}}
onto your user page so that people can see which languages you speak; seems to be an impressive number! Conrad.Irwin 20:05, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
I concur with Conrad.Irwin. It would be very appreciated if you were to add a userpage with babel templates :) Razorflame 21:24, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Could you please add a userpage? Thanks, Razorflame 01:54, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Small thing
[edit]Hi there. When you make entries that are in Cyrillic script, can you just add this little thing to the {{kry-noun|tr=asdjskjd|sc=Cyrl}} please? It would be very appreciated :) Thanks, Razorflame 21:40, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Northern Yukaghir
[edit]Merhaba, acaba bu dilin Türkçe karşılığı nedir? Sinek 22:28, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Sinek 23:57, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Avestan
[edit]For the Avestan descendants in the Proto-Indo-European entries, you seem to be using some private use encoding... which is why I can't read any of the words. You probably should not do this, so you may either use the official Unicode encoding or, if that won't work for you, just write it in Latin and use {{rfscript}}
like how you've been doing it for all the other classical languages. -- Prince Kassad 23:30, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Kyrgyz transliteration
[edit]Hi,
We don't have a table with Kyrgyz transliteration but we do have Wiktionary:Kazakh transliteration. Could you import the transliteration method you're using, please? What is it called? The characters you're using are not matching any of methods described here: w:Kyrgyz alphabets. That's probably fine but the scheme you're using should become available to others, so we have some consistency. --Anatoli (обсудить) 13:27, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Turkish-speaker advice needed on whether to delete some categories and templates
[edit]I recently nominated for deletion a block of categories and templates. These were for grammatical categories that would be wrong for most languages. I don't speak Turkish, however.
Your Babel box says you're a native speaker of Turkish, and you've been active on Wiktionary recently. I would appreciate it if you could look at the sections for the categories and for the templates and comment on whether they're useful, whether they should be deleted, and why (or why not). Module documentation
[edit]Hi! Thank you for creating more transliteration modules! Please remember to create documentation pages as well so we can keep up with them. For example, see Module:ky-translit/documentation. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:13, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Global account
[edit]Hi Madina! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, DerHexer (talk) 18:27, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
