Mandarin

Using pinyin as terms is not proper. Pinyin should be collected to be indexes. It is strange that a sentence is written in pinyin. A typical exmple is 'si shi si shi shi shi shi si shi shi si si shi shi si shi'(without tone marks) whice means 'four is four, ten is ten, fourteen is fourteen, forty is forty'(四是四，十是十，十四是十四，四十是四十). What is more, Pinyin 'shi shi shi' without tone marks can be 'yap yap yap'(是是是), 'the fact is'(事實是) or 'Shishi City'(石獅市) in Mandarin. Take 'shi(without tone marks)' as an example, there are more than eighty characters, whose pinyin are 'shi', and some of those are daily characters, e.g. '是'(be/yes), '十'(ten), '事'(event), '實'(solid), '師'(teacher), 時'time', '石'(stone), '示'(show), '氏'(surname), '始'(start), '識'(realise), '市'(market/city), '失'(lose), '勢'(trend), '似'(like), '史'(history), '室'(room), '試'(try), '食'(eat/food), '詩'(poem), '濕'(wet), '世'(world), '駛'(drive), '獅'(lion), '逝'(die) etc. All in all, pinyin just one type of phonetic notations, and it is also designed to represent the other divisions of the Chinese languages in north of China. Pinyin is not Mandarin and Mandarin is not only represented by pinyin. ----- a freshman

But letting beginners of a Chinese language―the main audience of this English edition of Wiktionary―navigate from phonetic representations to real words will be nice, and the links you are removing are indispensable to that purpose. –Tohru 16:39, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

'匘'(brain) is no longer used in modern Chinese, but in medicinal book in Classical Chinese or as a Martian character in Internet. '識' and '识' is the same character in different sets. ----- a freshman

'suiran juli hen yuan, danshi Internet shǐ women kaojin.'. 1. I think 'shǐ' is the pinyin of '使'(make) and 'women' is '我們'(we), so the pinyin of '使我們' is 'shí wǒ·men' but not 'shǐ wǒ·men' in this situation. 2. '互聯網'(hù lián wǎng) or '因特網'(yīn tè wǎng) be used instead of 'Internet' in daily communication. it is not a proper sample sentence to beginners. ----- a freshman

'suiran juli hen yuan, danshi Internet shǐ women kaojin.'. 1. The pinyin of '很遠' could be written as 'hén yuǎn' or 'hěn yuǎn', but it is written "hěn yuǎn" usually in dictionaries. 2. In Chinese, "Internet" could be spoken as "hùliánwǎng", "yīntèwǎng" or "Internet".
