[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from English hot dog.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]Hotdog m or n (strong, genitive Hotdogs, plural Hotdogs)
Usage notes
[edit]- A sausage in a bread roll is a common German snack. However, the German version is not usually referred to as a Hotdog, but simply as a Wurst or Bratwurst, or specifically a Wurst/Bratwurst im Brötchen. The German version uses a different kind of bread roll and uses mustard as the sole topping (maximally also ketchup). The sausage is predominantly grilled rather than cooked or steamed.
