Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑁂 (le) +‎ ـنا (-nā, verbal suffix), the first element of which was adapted from 𑀮𑀳 (laha), from Sanskrit लभ् (labh, to gain, to possess), by analogy with 𑀤𑁂 (de, giving) and 𑀡𑁂 (ṇe, taking).
