Hebrew
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Egyptian pr-ꜥꜣ (“great house”), originally referring to the palace of the Egyptian king, but later coming to refer to the king himself, hence the Hebrew sense.
Use as a proper noun occurs many times in the Bible; use as a common noun appears to be much more recent, and is perhaps due to influence from European languages.
