Talk:Ninoy Aquino International Airport
This article has Star potential. It's well written with great information. However, for Star status it needs both to be entirely complete and to exactly match the manual of style. If you see how it can be improved, please plunge forward or point it out on the talk page. |
This article was created as part of the Airport Expedition to decide upon and implement the best means of writing airport guides. If you have any ideas as to how the approach used here could be improved, please join our discussion there. |
Worst in Asia

- What's Agoda? That might be worth very briefly explaining in the article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:32, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Phone format
[edit]What does the "+63 2 877-1109 local 2439" (my boldening added) mean in the listing for Little Vin-Vin's, carinderia mean, please? --W. Frankemailtalk 15:06, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- The extension ("local" in Philippine English). The telephone number is the trunk line for the entire airport, so to access a particular place in the airport through the trunk line, you would have to enter the extension. I'll gladly change it to extension if need be.
- Carinderia is defined in the main Philippines article. --Sky Harbor (talk) 06:27, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation, Sky Harbor. I've never been to the Philippines, but my very old friend, Alice, tells me the people are some of the friendliest and most polite anywhere on the planet. I'm contemplating taking a round the world trip in October maybe to escape the dreek Glasgow winter, so maybe I'll get to sample the "worst airport in Asia", eh? Alice tells me Manila is a real hell-hole - do you live there? If so, maybe you've got some recommendations? --W. Frankemailtalk 14:08, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- It's her word against mine (okay, not really), but I do understand her apprehensions over the airport. I don't like NAIA as much as the next guy, but I think this whole "worst airport in the world" idea has been blown way out of proportion. While yes, the airport is no Changi, Suvarnabhumi or Chek Lap Kok, the airport is certainly not some run-down, rinky-dink pigsty either.
- I live in a suburb of Manila (Quezon City), and I would liken it to a place between a more chaotic Bangkok and a somewhat more orderly Jakarta. Depending on what you want to see and do, I'll be glad to make some recommendations for you. :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 03:03, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Star status
[edit]Does anyone disagree that this airport article should now be nominated for Star status? --W. Frankemailtalk 15:06, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- @W. Frank: Late, yes, but if you'd like to nominate this article for Star status, then feel free to do so. :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 01:17, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
"morion"
[edit]What is the "giant purple morion statue", please? --W. Frankemailtalk 23:29, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

- How intriguing. Thanks for the explanation! --W. Frankemailtalk 18:15, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Construction
[edit]An infobox in the Ninoy_Aquino_International_Airport#Ground_transportation section says expressway construction is "scheduled to last until 2015." Is this now complete? Can we remove the infobox? Or do we know enough to update the box text? Pashley (talk) 13:58, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
Scams
[edit]@Pashley: There has been the bullet-planting scam that occurred in 2015, but a new scam have just appeared, where immigration officers will tell you that you cannot leave because of a hold departure order, which is rather bogus, and you will be brought to security, where the officers will extort money in exchange of your freedom. A foreigner (American) has been entangled in the former, but I don't know whether foreigners are targetted by immigration officers. That's all what I know, but there are other scams other than those. I think we need to cover them here also. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 01:07, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
- Not much idea. I'll be going through NAIA in a few days, hoping not to encounter new scams :-) Pashley (talk) 01:15, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
