Suspected sockpuppets

[edit]

Obvious sock of By caner28, an account that has already been blocked on tr.wiki for socking there. Obvious username overlap, as do their edits, with a pattern of insisting that poor, unsupported translations of political jargon from Turkish should take precedence over actual English (or for that matter Turkish) sources. Ok, having now investigated the other account named in the ANI report against By caner28, this is a lot deeper than I first expected. I believe that the actual original master account is Johnny281993, an account active 2019-2022 that has been long since abandoned and is not yet blocked on en.wiki. Johnny281993 was blocked on tr.wiki in 2022 for disruptive editing. There isn't an obvious ANI-like record or a discussion on their talk page explaining any issues in detail, but a cursory glance at their contribs and talkpage history shows the same obsession with defining political terminology without reference to RS, and several articles deleted. CanerDemirci281993 then picks up where Johnny left off (n.b. "Caner" in Turkish is pronounced like "Jan-er" in English, pretty close to Johnny in addition to sharing the same date pattern). CanerDemirci281993 continued the same pattern of topic interest and would not be caught on tr.wiki until 25 March 2023. They then followed with CanerDemirci28, created 5 April 2023 and blocked on tr,.wiki 3 days later. In July of the same year, they'd try again as Giresunlu1993, blocked on tr.wiki in August of 2023, but remaining active .
By caner28 created their account on 20 April 2024, and were blocked for sockpuppetry on tr.wiki within three days. Meanwhile, on English Wikipedia, not having been fully aware of the sockpuppetry or disruptive editing on tr.wiki, By caner28 was blocked about a month ago in absentia from an ANI thread that raised various competence/communication concerns ([1]). Today, Jan 5, they also edited as an IP at Halkçılık, then proceeded to create the account Kemalist Caner (n.b. all of the accounts so far have focused on editing political ideology topics relating to Kemalism) in order to participate in a discussion on the talk page (albeit with an essentially irrelevant argument). In principle, the IP editing, then creating an account, would be fine on its own. It's the documented, clearly-connected history of persistent sockpuppetry and disruption across two Wikipedia projects, with a total lack of sophistication over the course of nearly 6 years that leaves me with little hope of improvement. Thus I'm asking that all of these connected accounts be blocked and the case renamed after the original master. signed, Rosguill talk 23:59, 5 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Disruption by Kemalist Caner is ongoing, as they continue to try to insert novel political terminology into Wikipedia Special:Diff/1267984917, Special:Diff/1267988990 signed, Rosguill talk 18:25, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
