Template athlete

Does anyone have a template for a creation of a athletes wiki page? A format I can plug in the info to make it easier? Brosenow (talk) 23:14, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Brosenow, you might be looking for Template:Infobox sportsperson? I would also recommend asking at WT:SPORTS. —andrybak (talk) 07:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Skype event template

Skype event template with the picture of Skype logo and Blue Background Abdullah Al Manjur (talk) 09:00, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Can you give some more information on how you plan to use this template or an example that you would like it modeled after? --Yarnalgo talk 16:21, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

On mobille

The template would have a gray background color or, I don’t know And bold text saying "This User Uses the mobile Wikipedia website on mobile" And on the top it says "On Mobile". It’s for me but I don’t know how to display the template. Abdullah Al Manjur (talk) 14:44, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

And oh. I would keep it on mobile, but not on desktop And also add an alternate of the same template but saying This user is using desktop version right now And on the top will say Now using desktop

Abdullah Al Manjur (talk) 14:47, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

As far as I know there's not a way for a template to automatically update based on whether a user is currently using desktop or mobile. You'd have to edit it each time to switch it. If you just want a userbox that says you use the mobile Wikipedia, you can make one with userbox. --Yarnalgo talk 17:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
@Abdullah Al Manjur: to expand on Yarnalgo's response: there is . —andrybak (talk) 18:40, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Can’t go outside

The BG color is red and it would say "We all can’t go outside" And on the top "Can’t go outside"

And the code will be

Abdullah Al Manjur (talk) 14:51, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Under what circumstances would you envisage this being used? If you only want it to put on your own userpage, just put the text on your userpage; you don't need a separate template for that. ‑ Iridescent 15:03, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Abdullah Al Manjur, you might want to consider posting at Wikipedia talk:Userboxes/Ideas instead. —andrybak (talk) 18:42, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Galendalia, sure. An example is Template:Village pump page header, which uses Start tab and End tab for the top half of its content. I adapted its code to WikiProject's pages:
 Project Discussion Discussion
Some WikiProject specific text. Using template parameters, like {}, the text can be customized for individual pages, if needed.

If you would like something more minimal, check out usage of Start tab on the page Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mining/Header. To make it re-usable you could put this code to or Spoken Wikipedia header. —andrybak (talk) 21:07, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Project Spoken Wikipedia Template Request

Hello again. I will be making numerous requests this weekend as I am reviving a project and as I find templates, I may ask questions or for changes, so please bear with me. On Template:Spoken_article_requested when it posts to the page that tells us what articles are being requested at I would like it to automatically add the page rating (i.e. stub, GA, fa, draft, etc.) Is this possible? We have certain articles we will not do audio for (which will typically be shorts, stub, drafts, breaking news, etc.). Thanks again Galendalia (talk) 17:14, 23 May 2020 (UTC) Spoken Wikipedia Project Coordinator

Galendalia, if I remember correctly, detecting the categories of a page in a template is possible, but not desirable. Perhaps, the PetScan tool could be used to intersect Category:Spoken Wikipedia requests with Category:Wikipedia good articles and Category:Wikipedia featured articles? —andrybak (talk) 21:30, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Template:Infobox French constituency

Hello Team,

I am working with an editor at the TeaHouse regarding this specific template. While working with them, I noticed there is no documentation on this template. What they are trying to do is add EDS as the party-coulour and it does not work, but it works in a table. Is there a way this can be corrected? This is the link to the TeaHouse conversation. Wikipedia:Teahouse#Templates_Infobox_French_constituency,_French_political_party_colours. I am also going to post on there I opened a conversation here for the editor to reference and use going forward. Thank you so much. Galendalia (talk) 15:57, 23 May 2020 (UTC) TeaHouse Host

@Galendalia and Newystats: Template:Infobox French constituency passes its parameter |party-colour= into Template:French politics/party colours, which is just a big list of "meta/color" templates chosen by the party's abbreviation. I've figured it out by looking at template's code: see wikitext {{French politics/party colours|{}}} at line 11 of the template.
I have added Template:Ecology Democracy Solidarity/meta/color to this list with abbreviation EDS (note, that template is case-insensitive): Special:Diff/958402154. And here's the fix in the article: Special:Diff/958311523/958402997. —andrybak (talk) 16:14, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Automatic cladogram

Since we already have taxa in correct order with Template:Automatic taxobox, can we use this info to create something like Automatic cladogram? The idea is you put two parameters, name and depth and it would automatically draw a cladogram for you. For example: Dinosauria would create a cladogram with Dinosaur as parent and two taxon ranks below.  Dinosaur (talk) 🌴🦕🦖 -- 20:34, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

4 Team, Double Elim, 2 round, non seeded bracket template

As I don't believe that there is a place to reuqest a bracket and I'm not aquainted with anyone that makes any I thought I would ask here. I need a bracket template that looks like the ones on this page: https://cod-esports.gamepedia.com/Call_of_Duty_League/2020_Season/Week_5

This bracket template is for the article Call of Duty League where I was able to use an already created template for the semi-finals and finals results as the competition uses a pretty bog standard 4 team single elimination bracket. However the group stage use a different format and it would be really good for the group results within the article to match the finals results. If someone could take a look and get back to me on if it's possible to make a bracket look like the one I've linked that would be greatly appreciated! Brandon Downes (talk) 01:11, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

There is and , but there doesn't seem to be one with both no final and no seeds. I can combine them for you. --Yarnalgo talk 03:28, 26 April 2020 (UTC)

Conditional table looks weired.

Hi, I am trying to create a conditional table template.

Here is my template code for conditional row: https://gofile.io/?c=KfrrxS (code.jpg)

If I use both rows it looks good. As here: https://gofile.io/?c=KfrrxS (good.jpg)

But if I use one of them, it looks weired, as here: https://gofile.io/?c=KfrrxS (bad.jpg)

How to fix it?

PS. Sorry I could not post any file here and image here. So I gave link. Please help. Farvardyn (talk) 15:07, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

In inline citation, reference number like in a footnote but not in superscript and not in brackets

Suppose that an article uses footnote-style referencing, so that references appear as bracketed numbers in superscript, like this.[1] This is achieved e.g. using the following markup: . (It can also be achieved using the refn template.)

It would be nice if there were a template that would enable an editor to refer to this reference directly, e.g. like this:

As explained in Ref. 1, …

But, apart from not being superscripted and not being enclosed in brackets, this ‘1’ in ‘Ref. 1’ should have the same properties as the superscripted reference. In particular, it should have the following three properties:

  • It should be generated automatically, from the supplied reference name in the wiki markup (i.e. the engine should know how to convert the name "Doe 2020" to the appropriate number);
  • It should link to the correct entry in the list of citations.
  • It should show the reference when the mouse pointer hovers over it (the same tooltip behavior as the superscripted reference).

It would additionally be nice if there were an option to retain the brackets, so that the citation looks like this: As explained in Ref. [1], …

It would probably be acceptable if, instead of the name "Doe 2020", the engine were at least able to convert #CITEREFDoe2020 to the appropriate number. In fact, the markup Ref. 1 gets us two-thirds of the way to the goal: it generates the correct link to the list of citations and the correct tooltip (like so: Ref. 1). Unfortunately, the actual number (here, ‘1’) has to be inserted by hand into the markup, and that is just not practical.

In short, the template should work just like refn, except that the output should not be superscripted and (optionally) the number should not be in brackets.

I do know that there are often workarounds. In the particular example I used above, one could write

As explained by Doe,[1]

I realize that, in a great majority of cases, one just summarizes what the source says and provides a superscripted reference without needing to directly refer to that reference; and I realize that on the rare occasions when sources do have to be discussed, the "workaround" mentioned above is the preferred method. Indeed, scholarly literature has these same two guidelines. And yet, scholarly literature does allow for usage such as 'Ref. 1', because it is recognized that there do exist some rare occasions when the usual, preferred way of talking about sources results in awkward constructions.

Edit Requests Templates

Yesterday I was going through Edit requests and making the requests or letting the requestors know why they couldn't be completed (i.e. needs sources, clarification, etc.) I know one of them posted something on a user's talk page similar to the Tea House talkback letting them know their request had been changed. "move to" banner template for proposed likely uncontroversial moves that do not go to Requested moves

The Requested moves policy states that "The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus." However, there are no templates with which to tag the relevant page to alert editors of the discussion who may not read the Talk page or have it on their Watchlist. I therefore request a "move to" template analogous to the merge to template used for proposed merge discussions which would function the same way. In this way, use of the template would offer a route for a proposed page move intermediate between simply being bold and doing it without first ensuring consensus, which risks a messy move war, and a requested move, which would unnecessarily involve many editors and administrators when the proposer would prefer to complete the move themselves but wish to check for consensus first. Upgrades to Old AfD list: allow multiple titles, hide redirects

Howdy. It would be great if old AfD list was given the ability to take multiple titles, to cope with cases where there isn't a shared prefix. For example:

"Atlantium"

"Empire of Atlantium"

At present to index them all in one place requires either using the template twice, or subst'ing it and manually editing the output. It would also be useful to be able to pass through the "hide redirects" flag to Special:PrefixIndex to make the output tidier at the editor's discretion.  — Scott talk 14:02, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

GDP inflation templates ?

Hello, according to Template:Inflation, "for inflating capital expenses, government expenses, or the personal wealth and expenditure of the rich, the US-GDP or UK-GDP indexes should be used". Is it possible to create such templates ? It would be useful for all such data (I would use it for gov agency budgets or prices of military aircraft). Thanks in advance, Rob1bureau (talk) 17:32, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

This looks fairly simple but my script skills here are minimal. This template requires an optional {}}. The second argument is not always given, it is optional. The second argument was recently added to the canonical Template:Wikipedia rank by size and this template variation would detect and pass through. -- GreenC 14:51, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Test data:

  • 2 -> it
  •  -> Italian

They should both be Italy ("it" and "Italy" respective). Since the /WP version is not seeing the "wikiquote" second argument, the main template defaults to another project and returns "Cebuano". -- GreenC 14:53, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Actually it requires a third optional argument as well. So one required argument and two optional arguments. -- GreenC 14:24, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Article or section should be in chronological order (first/oldest item at top)

Per WP:SALORDER, content is generally in chronological order with the first/oldest item at the top and last/newest item at the bottom. While I generally fix these when encountered, sometimes the content is in a table with spans and is non-trivial to quickly resolve. Usage examples include List of Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the NFL Draft#Selections and an article about an author with a Bibliography section listing all of their authored content ala Robert H. Abel#Works.

Perhaps:

With both full article and section behavior supported ala Template:Unreferenced:

AfroCROWD template

I'd like help creating Template:AfroCROWD. I tried drafting one based on Template:WIR, but am struggling with the complexity.

Here's my draft: User:Paul2520/sandbox2.

Like with Women in Red, this should allow us to track which event/date the article was created, or just be a catch-all for articles created as part of the WP:AfroCROWD project (if no date/event is provided). However, Women in Red seems to have a ton of specific/sub templates that I don't think AfroCROWD needs (at this time).

Thanks in advance! = paul2520 💬 21:30, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Paul2520, I would like to know the problems you are having with it and how the template should be like in more specific details (perhaps you can give the full usage of the template). ~ Ase1estecharge-paritytime 13:06, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, Aseleste. Biggest problem has been not understanding all the code behind the Women in Red template.
The way I see it: (1) exist as a banner to illustrate that the article was started through the AfroCROWD project / at an AfroCROWD event.
(2) add the article to a category, perhaps the equivalent of Category:WikiProject Women in Red articles.
(3) ties in with (2), add the article to a sub-category rather than a category, if year parameter is given.
(4) maybe just link to the page of a specific event, if one is listed.
I think that covers it, but I'll share this request with others at the event to weigh-in. = paul2520 💬 14:22, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Paul2520, from these four points only, I think the Template:WIR basically matches what you need. The one important difference I have noticed is that all event pages for WP:WIR are stored under Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup, while WP:AfroCROWD seems to store them in several places. Apart from that, everything else seems the same. ~ Ase1estecharge-paritytime 15:25, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Currently, the width is static, so no matter how much text is inside the template, it takes up the same amount of space on the page. I think it would be better if the width was dynamic, but didn't go above the width it's currently always at. I tried "width:auto" "max-width:50%", but apparently max-width overrides width, so that didn't work. I tried "max-width:50%" by itself, but that didn't work either because it doesn't become as wide as the static template is right now with lots of text. Can someone who knows what they're doing help out with this? Thanks, DesertPipeline (talk) 06:24, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

@DesertPipeline:  Done with Special:Diff/1014140108. Let me know if this is not what you meant. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 11:58, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: Unfortunately not; that displays the same as my failed attempts previously. I don't know if it's just not displaying correctly on my side or something, but the maximum width is a lot less like that than the static width it was before. I'd like it to be able to display with as small a width as possible to fit the text inside it, up to a maximum width consistent with the width it used to be statically. Regards, DesertPipeline (talk) 12:44, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@DesertPipeline: Hmm... They look the same to me right now on Template:Oldtfdlist/testcases after restoring Template:Oldtfdlist/sandbox to its previous layout. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 12:50, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: So you mean that the "Large amount of text" testcase is the same width for you with both the old static code and the new dynamic code? Because for me, the width is to the first "test", then it wraps. DesertPipeline (talk) 12:55, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
(For the current live code only, I mean) DesertPipeline (talk) 12:56, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@DesertPipeline: Yeah, I mean the last test case. The first two test cases are not the same because 50% is not needed to fit all the content inside. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 12:58, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Also, in case you are not aware, 50% width is relative, so the wrapped words will be different depending on your browser window width. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 13:02, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: My browser window is the same size when comparing the two, so I have no idea why this is happening. I'm on Firefox ESR 78.9.0. What about you? DesertPipeline (talk) 13:06, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@DesertPipeline: Google Chrome 89.0.4389.90 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: Stable) ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 13:08, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: Wait, sorry, no, I got confused. All testcases wrap for me with the new code. In the link, it gets to "Templates for", then wraps, even though when it gets to "Keep", that goes further than the link does. The same with "Keep. test". I don't know whether this is because I'm on an older version, or if it's specifically a Firefox thing. I don't understand why that would be the case, though. DesertPipeline (talk) 13:12, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@DesertPipeline: Check the test casr page again and look at the sandbox version. I have just updated the sandbox code. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 13:22, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: I now get a horizontal scroll bar, and the "Large amount of text" sandbox test case is off to the right, with some of it (up to "Template:Maintai", and then it goes off the page to the right and I have to scroll) visible within the normal borders of the page without scrolling horizontally. The other sandbox test cases are displaying correctly. DesertPipeline (talk) 13:26, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@DesertPipeline: Does the test case box itself extends beyond the normal border? If so, that's just a quirk of the test case template, so it should not be a problem for the template we are discussing. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 13:34, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: Yeah, I was thinking I should mention that after I posted my previous comment :) The test case box is off to the right as well, and the live code example isn't visible unless I scroll all the way to the right. The current sandbox code is working properly for me then :) DesertPipeline (talk) 13:37, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@DesertPipeline:  Done - Special:Diff/1014153341 ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 13:55, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
User:Aseleste: Thank you very much! :) I'll update the other templates with this change. DesertPipeline (talk) 13:57, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Mahatma Gandhi family tree

I was wondering if there should be a template for the family of Mahatma Gandhi. It's the perfect size to fit in a template, and is certainly notable enough.

Painting17 (talk) 15:20, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

@Painting17: Do you mean creating a template like ? Also, what should the name of the new template be? ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 01:17, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Or you mean ? ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 01:30, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
I think the family tree one would do fine. Painting17 (talk) 13:06, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
@Painting17: Lots of family trees to choose from... Not sure which one to use here. It looks like the choices are Tree list (easist), Chart, and a table (hardest). ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 15:52, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
I generally think charts are the way to go. It's small enough that a tree list wouldn't be necessary. Painting17 (talk) 15:55, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Doing... Definitely did not forget this...[sarcasm] ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 16:18, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Critical Role

My idea for a template is a NavBox on the Critical Role franchise. There's a large amount of articles related to it, including Critical Role (campaign one), Critical Role (campaign two), Critical Role Productions, List of Critical Role episodes, and Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins.

Painting17 (talk) 15:49, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Getting number of edits by a user

This should be fairly straight forward. Just get the number of edits made by a user and give that output in the template. The user should be a variable

Requesting flags/emblems

I noticed a large quantity of articles that are missing images of flags, such as flag of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I was wondering if there could be a template used to mark these.

Painting17 (talk) 22:43, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

@Painting17: Is putting Image requested on the article talk page insufficient? ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 01:38, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

WikiProject Invite

My request is for an invite template for Draft: Wikipedia:WikiProject SpaceX (company). Many other WikiProjects have them and I was thinking that since not may people are editing my WikiProject draft, maybe there could be an invite I could send users from other similar WikiProjects that would stand out on my talk page. The template should look similar to the following template.

64.121.103.144 (talk) 00:07, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

Done - . Putting the template under the proposal for now since it would be weird to have a template on the template namespace for an non-existent-yet WikiProject.
To use it, type , which produces:

Mexican Governors (by state)

While there is obviously a template for governors of Mexican states, there is no template for governors of each individual state in Mexico. For instance, there is no template for governors of Morelos or governors of Jalisco, like there is a template:Governors of Indiana.

Fidel Castro family tree

I see that there are enough members of the Fidel Castro family to make a small tree. Due to the importance of several of the Castros, I think a Castro tree would be a useful addition to Wikipedia.

WikiProject Women in hip hop music welcome template and talk page template

The first one would welcome new users to the project and have two photos of any female hip hop musicians (perhaps Nicki Minaj and Cardi B?).

"Hello! I've seen you edit a lot on articles about women in hip hop music! I'd like to invite you to WikiProject Women in hip hop music, a collaborative effort to improve articles about women who make hip hop music, along with their projects."

Along with that, perhaps there could be a parameter to specify which article you found the person editing.

The second template would be one to put on the talk page of articles. Sort of like Template:WikiProject Pop Music.

"This (namespace) is within the scope of WP:WikiProject Women in hip hop music, a collaborative effort to improve articles about women who make hip hop music, along with their projects."

@VersaceSpace: Would you like the banner place the article into a category? Like Category:WikiProject Women in hip hop music? Aknell4 (talkcontribs) 18:45, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
@Aknell4: yes! i'd appreciate that. also, the table which sorts them by class and importance, how do you get that? versacespaceleave a message! 20:53, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
I'll get to it! For the class and importance, I believe you need to set up a class and importance scale on the WikiProject. Most WikiProjects use the standard one though. I'll have more information once I finish this up. --Aknell4 (talkcontribs) 20:55, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
@VersaceSpace: I've done the categories and the class and importance stuff. Turns out you don't need a separate class and importance scale --Aknell4 (talkcontribs) 21:13, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Family templates

If you look through the templates in Category:Family templates, you will see that all of them are NavBoxes. I think many of these templates would work better as family trees instead of NavBoxes, as their contents are either too small or too large to fit in a navbox.

Some templates I think would work better as family trees would be Template:Wayans family, Template:Chaplin family, Template:Kapoor family, Template:Ray family, Template:Bach family, Template:Custis family, Template:Bose family and Template:Barbour family.

Is this a valid idea? Painting17 (talk) 15:00, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

@Painting17: Alternatively, a corresponding template named Template:XXX family tree for each template here could work. Compare  and . ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 01:03, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Rocketry Editor of the Year

I am the manager and project coordinator of WikiProject Rocketry. I've rewarded users with the Rocketry Editor of the Year award. Can you make a template for this. It should say something like this: "You have received the Rocketry Editor of the Year award! Thank you for all your hard work in rocketry articles!"

StarshipSLS (Talk), (My Contributions) 17:06, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

@StarshipSLS: How do you want the award to look like? You can link to similar templates if desired. I would think that an award consisting of only plaintext is not appealing. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 01:21, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Average precipitation table

I want a template for average monthly and annual precipitation similar to the Template:Average temperature table but with the same colouring as green precipitation colour scale in weatherbox template. I will use it to create the article "List of cities by average precipitation" which will be similar to the List of cities by average temperature article. I think such an article will be a useful addition to Wikipedia as comparing cities in terms of precipitation is as important as comparing cities in terms of temperature.

Shaheen Hassan (talk) 14:09, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

@Shaheen Hassan: Can you draft how tables in List of cities by average precipitation would look like? I think it might be better to generalize the template, but I would need some examples to do so. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 01:10, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
@Aseleste: The tables would look similar to the the tables in List of cities by average temperature but the template should have a different colour scheme (similar to the green precipitation colour scale in weatherbox template). Shaheen Hassan (talk) 07:29, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Huxley/Arnold families

So there is a family tree template for the Arnold family (Arnold family tree) and a template for the Huxley family. However, the Huxley family tree template is called the Huxley-Arnold family tree. Only half of it is dedicated to the Huxley family while the other half covers the Arnold family (Julia Arnold and Leonard Huxley were married).

Not only is there a more precise version of the Arnold family tree available on its own template, but there's a more precise version of the Huxley family tree available on the page for the Huxley family. So I wonder if the Huxley-Arnold tree should be deleted and replaced by the larger Huxley tree.

Update template for Ranked Choice Voting results

As per best RCV reporting practices, we should include data from all rounds when including RCV results, and especially be careful not to overemphasize the importance of the first round votes.

How shall we update this template to include results from all rounds? As an example, I find this template easy to use, though it has the issue of being far too wide when there are many rounds. It is auto-generated from RCVis. Whatever changes we propose here, I can ensure RCVis updates its wikipedia table-exporting code to follow the Wikipedia template we come up with.

Cite YouTube

Do you notice that there's an individual citation template for each social media platform? Well, I believe that YouTube (which is a video-sharing website, not a social media platform) should have its own citation template due to a large amount of controversy surrounding what should be where when videos on the website are cited (of course, they must be cited with primary care, as they are considered primary sources). Though, I notice that cite YouTube redirects to cite AV media, so I'm not sure how this'll play out. L33tm4n (talk) 04:29, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Could you please create a template for Indian Bureaucrats? There are so many article on Wikipedia about Indian Bureaucrats.

Shaji issac (talk) 06:20, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

Novem Linguae, If possible, could you please create navbox for Indian Bureaucrats? These are some bureaucrats from India -Rajiv Gauba, Durga Shanker Mishra, Sriram Venkitaraman, Raju Narayana Swamy, K. M. Abraham (Bureaucrat), Tom Jose,Divya S. Iyer,Rajive Kumar, T. V. I wish to have a template like this--Shaji issac (talk) 06:13, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Shaji issac, hmm, on second thought, I'm not sure navboxes are needed for these. A bureaucrat is just somebody who works for the government, right? I don't know if a "current and former employees of X" navbox would be that useful to our readers. Don't forget, we have categories for these folks that our readers can use to dig deeper, such as Category:Indian Administrative Service officers, Category:Indian civil servants, Category:Indian Administrative Service officers from Kerala, Category:Civil Servants from Kerala, etc.
Novem Linguae, there are some important bureaucrats in India. Kindly help me if you can. Because I'm planning to create few more articles on famous bureaucrats. Shaji issac (talk) 06:32, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Shaji issac, by the way, good job with Template:Indian Civil Servants. I think that looks reasonable so far. Is the template mostly complete, or are you still working on it? Once it's mostly complete, and assuming it doesn't get too big, I can add this template to the bottom of pages for you using a program that lets me do it quickly. –Novem Linguae (talk) 01:52, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
Novem Linguae, Thank you so much.. it's mostly completed... You can add this template... And thank you for your help... --Shaji issac (talk) 01:59, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Football results template

Hello, following on from a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 146#Club seasons articles and MoS, a couple of editors thought it would be a good idea to create a template similar to Template:Football box collapsible that would allow editors who are less familiar with editing tables to create and update lists of football match results on club season and national team results articles such as the one at Scotland national football team results (2000–2019)#Results. If similar parameters to those used by the footballbox templates were used then it would also allow for editors to update articles according to consensus and policies such as MOS:LIST and WP:ACCESS by swaping the footballbox style for a table in the style in the Scotland article I've mentioned. I imagine it would look something like this:

Football result list end

Which would render as:

Scotland's score is shown first in each case.

No. Date Venue Opponents Score Competition Scotland scorers Att. Ref.
1 30 November 1872 Hamilton Crescent, Glasgow (H)  England 0–0 Friendly 3,000 [1]

Or similar. I don't know a lot about how to make a template like this so any suggestions of a better way to do it would be appreciated. If the template is used on both national team result articles and club season articles then the number parameter should be optional. Thanks Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:30, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

I've made a start but I've reached the limit of my technical know-how. It can be viewed at User:Stevie fae Scotland/Football result list and User:Stevie fae Scotland/Football result list start and displays as:

Scotland's score is shown first in each case.

Scotland national football team results
No. Date Venue Opponents Score Competition Scotland scorers Att. Ref.
30 November 1872 Hamilton Crescent (N)  England Friendly 3,000 [1]
What I don't know how to do is how to add the colours to correspond to the score so I would appreciate any help anyone could offer. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 10:21, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Template: Wide table

Hello, we already have Template:Wide image to add a scrollbar for wide images on smaller viewports.
As an analogue I'd like to suggest a "Template: Wide table". I have encountered such (Wiki-)tables in several articles already where they break the article's display on all but wide-screens by forcing the right margin further out. This table brought me here. (This is still a rather harmless sample; I've seen much wider tables.)
Please comment and tell me if this is technically feasible and generally desirable. --ΟΥΤΙΣ (talk) 23:18, 7 July 2021 (UTC) ΟΥΤΙΣ (talk) 23:18, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Infobox Minecraft server

With the rise of popular Minecraft servers like the Dream SMP, I think there should be a template for servers like this. In the meantime, I will be copying and pasting infobox software from Hypixel's article. L33tm4n (talk) 21:38, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

After discussion at WikiProject Medicine and Template talk:Drug links, there is support for a template that would host external links currently held in Infobox drug. The new template Template:Drug links would be identical in format to Medical resources except with the fields and headings at User:Ajpolino/sandbox3. The only problem is... well I have no idea how template syntax works, and all the curly brackets and special keywords make my head hurt. Table setting imagemap

I was wondering if an image map should be created for table setting. Not everyone can distinguish between multiple types of fork, and there are too many utensils for a written description to be read comfortably (see full course dinner).

The imagemap would help the reader identify each utensil without having to look back and forth between the image and the text. Painting17 (talk) 22:48, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

I took one course in EU law and am far from an expert on citation styles. Location map/data/Elazığ Province

I was recently editing some articles about populated places in Elazığ Province, and I noticed that it was a very small province in proportion to a big country, meaning that different locations could be somewhat far apart but still look close to each other on the map. There is already a nice image on this province [Wikimedia Commons]. In addition this template also exists in [Wikipedia]. There are also modules for it on [Wikipedia] and the [one]. I'd like to know if we could get one here. I've tried experimenting on how to use Lua but I don't have the time at the moment.

Could somebody create Template:Justify from French template ?

Hello. I'm working mainly on the French version of WP and more occasionaly on the English version, but I don't find on this one the equivalent of the French template Modèle:Justifier which is used to justify text so that both edges of each line are aligned with both margins. Could something be done, since this is very practical in some cases?

The French Gauche (Left), Centrer (Center) and Droite (Right) templates all have their English counterparts as you can see in the left margin of each French document, except Justifier (Justify). Could somebody translate the latter into Template:Justify ?

Thank you very much in advance for your answer : Tatvam (talk) 21:57, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Done. Was a simple copy paste. I don't see why not. Template:Justify. –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:07, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

A request for something non-beneficial

Hello, I wasn't sure if this was the proper place to request this kind of stuff but the community portal says "specialized script that doesn't exist yet", and I think it falls under that line. I say that because it doesn't do anything "beneficial" to make something cool for my user talk page. I had a couple of ideas for funny "notices" to put at the top of my talk page, but putting too many would make things cluttered. Instead, I came up with the idea for a way to make it so that a template cycles through a large selection of notices and other things; it chooses one from a list (I'm using my sandbox) of these notices and puts uses it on the talk page. Whenever the page is refreshed or purged, a new one from that list is put there (in the same spot). Is that possible? I originally asked this at User scripts requests and was redirected here. Panini!🥪 15:10, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Doesn't the code at the top of User:Panini!/sandbox5 already do that? * Pppery * it has begun... 16:59, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
Pppery, I wwas told to use this code from the random quote template, so I've been experimenting with it. However, I've realized it only displays the first 6, despite having 15 in the code. Is there something that's screwing it up? Panini!🥪 17:04, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
You are missing a set of close curly braces at the end of the sixth entry. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:10, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
Holy cow, I never would've noticed that. Thanks for your help! Panini!🥪 17:34, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
Preferences -> Gadgets -> Editing -> Syntax highlighter is a good gadget for spotting unclosed braces. The highlight colors will look weird, giving a visual clue. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:38, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

This template should be used for users who violated the Manual of Style with their first contributions to Wikipedia. Template:Tfdend's first parameter

The former template which is now a redirect Template:Tfdend took the first unnamed parameter as the section heading. When it passes this to Old TfD, it is also used as the nominated page name, e.g. [1], resulting in incorrect red links.

I suggest that Tfdend should be edited to pass parameter "1" with the parameter name "discuss". See manual fix to the example given above.

I'd do it myself but I don't know how. I made a request at Template talk:Old TfD, but that was closed without fixing it. An indirect request here was archived without response, so I am repeating this as a direct request here. – Fayenatic London 22:27, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Combined views and subs template

In YouTube related infoboxes there are places for the subscribers and total views for the channel. This works fine for when the article has a single channel related to it - you just put the number for both in their respective places. The issues arises when the article has multiple channels associated with it. What usually ends up happening is someone goes to an article where this is already the case and copies some wikimarkup similar to below, which puts all of the channels in a bulleted list and makes a note at the bottom of the page for individual channel counts.

Example from the Danny Gonzalez article
Wiki Source Rendered Result

Notes
Notelist
  • 5.08 million (main channel)
  • 6.89 million (combined)[a]
Notes
  1. ^ Subscribers, broken down by channel:
    • 5.08 million (Danny Gonzalez)
    • 1.45 million (2 Danny 2 Furious)
    • 362 thousand (Danny GAMEzalez)

This happens on multiple articles all over the place and it doesn't appear as though there is a template, or any standard for it. It also makes it very hard for inexperienced editors to update the counts. It's hard to see what needs to be changed, with the sum template taking decimals, and there being separate sections for for the main and the other channels, etc. I feel as though it would beneficial to create a template that would automatically format everything like above, but only taking a subscriber amount as well as a channel name for each entry. For example:

Wiki Source Rendered Result

  • 5.08 million (main channel)
  • 6.89 million (combined)[a]
Notes
  1. ^ Subscribers, broken down by channel:
    • 5.08 million (Danny Gonzalez)
    • 1.45 million (2 Danny 2 Furious)
    • 362 thousand (Danny GAMEzalez)

This is less of a template "request" and more of a request for critique of sorts. I can make this template myself, but I was looking for some thoughts from others. Does this sound like a good idea? Are there any templates like this already? Are there any reasons why this could be a bad thing? Could the formatting of a supposed template be better than my example? Thanks for the consideration, ― Levi_OPTalk 16:22, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

Not going to comment on whether it's a good idea because that is fundamentally a question about the class of articles, rather than the template itself. If the template will get used for enough article content or by enough editors that it's worth it to you to make it, then do it. One note on the implementation is that I'd add an additional parameter like updated= such that if it is included, the breakdown in the notes would read "Subscribers as of January 15, 2022, broken down by channel:". This parameter would also allow for a possible maintenance category at some time, and the addition of a site= parameter would actually facilitate a bot task for updating those subscriber numbers as well - there's nothing inherent in this template that would necessarily limit it to YouTube statistics after all. VanIsaac, MPLL contWpWS 23:03, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
@Vanisaac: Hey, thanks for the response. As far as the updated parameter goes, this is already included in Infobox YouTube personality. Usually, when people are updating the subs and views, they just update the parameter there to signify that it was changed then. And for the site parameter, this is an entirely different issue on it's own. YouTube subs and views have seemed like something that could be updated by a bot for a very long time, and no one has ever implemented it. I was going to make a request for this to become a task at whatever page I would need to do that in the future so that people wouldn't have to manually update it on all of the YouTube pages. This is also an issue with Twitch channels, tiktok infoboxes, and many other templates that parameters related to follower counts, views, etc. that could be done by a bot instead. I think it would still be a good idea to add a parameter for the channel id for all of the channels so that if this ever does become an automated task it would be future proofed. Thanks again, ― Levi_OPTalk 19:16, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
@Levi OP:
I was going to make a request for this to become a task at whatever page I would need to do that - Wikipedia:Bot requests. ― Qwerfjkltalk 18:22, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
@Levi OP: The problem is that a template like this isn't limited to the specific infobox. The update date needs to be within this template so that the logic for the tracking categories can work. How it gets implemented within the infobox is another question, and those values might be automatically passed to this template. But you still want them within the template. Templates Template:Iobdb name / Template:Iobdb title / Template:Iobdb venue linking to lortel.org instead of iobdb.com (previous redirects not working anymore)

Hi, there seems to be a problem with all IOBDb templates.

This entry for Stephen Sondheim should direct to www.iobdb.com/CreditableEntity/2008. Instead it leads to lortel.org/Archives/CreditableEntity/2008. Previously the lortel.org entries redirected to iobdb.com. This seems to be not the case anymore. The problem also applies to the Template:Iobdb title and Template:Iobdb venue. All these templates should direct to iobdb.com. The problem is currently not occurring with the Template:Iobdb show for some reason. Thank you and best, --NiTen (talk) 12:24, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

@NiTenIchiRyu: I've been trying to fix this at (testcases), but I'm not sure how to format the link. Can you have a try? ― Qwerfjkltalk 12:57, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, it seems not to work correctly so far. Maybe you can have a look at de:Vorlage:OffBroadwayDB. This template incorporates options for names, titles, venues and shows in one template. Best, --NiTen (talk) 13:11, 13 February 2022 (UTC)

I have seen a lot of people spending time requesting, discussing, sourcing, uploading, etc. images of currency and would like to request a template for currency related talk pages to make sure sure that people are aware of the copyright issues. The template would be added to the talk pages of banknote and currency pages that looks similar to the Image requested template but without the upload button. It would then take the copyright information for the country from Commons:Currency and display it on the talk page.

For example would be added to Talk:Banknotes_of_the_Australian_dollar and then display the Commons message from with a note that this is the Wikimedia Commons information.

I am not sure if there should be some note about the possibility of images that may be acceptable for Wikipedia but not for Wikimedia Commons, that would be something for someone with a better understanding of the issues involved to decide. Gusfriend (talk) 00:18, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Trying to recode Template:Infobox NFL player so that in cases in which the player's number and team header is not being displayed, the position information gets moved as the first line under "Career information". This is based on the request here. The tricky part here is that, recently, the infobox was hardcoded to prevent "Free agent" from appearing as the player's current team even if populated for |current_team= (diff). Here is an example of an infobox with the number and team header being shown, followed by the position. Here is an example of an infobox without the number and team header being shown, but the position is hanging without an header. Here is an example of an infobox without the team, but with the number and position. You can view all of my attempts to recode at the sandbox history and the relevant testcases section is at Template:Infobox NFL biography/testcases#Current team parameter changes March 2022. This test seemed like my best attempt to get this to work, but did not, so it could easily be the case of my missing something in that one.

Template: Infobox Art Exhibition

Requesting a template for art exhibitions -- the fields for Template:Infobox_event and Template:Infobox_recurring_event don't accurately capture the breadth of needs for art exhibition pages. Art exhibitions feel like they have a distinct need for a template, as they can be a one-off event, a touring event, a recurring event, or a recurring and touring event. Fields should include venues, dates, locations, etc. for the original and touring iterations as well as date fields to allow for recurring events. It's a tricky one in my opinion, just seeing if anyone wants to set it up! 19h00s (talk) 19:48, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Table navboxes for sections

On all the Category:Lists of albums by release date since List of 2020 albums, there are boxes on top of each table (divided by month) to enable jumping between sections easily. We've been adding those manually to each table as a new one is made, but it seems like there should be an easier, more automated way to accomplish this task, and perhaps it would also be useful for other lists/articles around the site (e.g. Category:Lists of films by country by year). QuietHere (talk) 12:40, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Created a simple Template:Monthbar to handle this and applied it to List of 2020 albums as an example. Note that this leaves the currently displayed month as a link rather than converting it to text. I thought this might be acceptable given that the selected month name is still listed on the line immediately above. To display the selected month as a non-link would require adding a 'month' parameter to the template and then including that month name in each template call. --CBD 19:44, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
If you think that extra parameter is necessary then feel free to add it, but I think it's fine as is, works just the same otherwise and saves a lot of space + implementation work. Thanks a bunch! QuietHere (talk) 23:46, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
Actually, now that I'm looking at it again, I realise it would help if it were more dynamic. For example, List of 2022 albums currently does not have sections for October or November (no albums have been announced yet with release dates in those months) but it does have Unscheduled and TBA for albums announced for this year but without a specific date yet. If there were a way to detect section subheadings specifically and autogenerate links based on them that would be perfect, or at least some way to manually customise them for these instances. QuietHere (talk) 00:17, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, there is no way for a template to 'scan' the page it is transcluded to for specific links. What I can do is add the 'Unscheduled and TBA' option and a way to suppress specific links. I'll give that a try and then apply it to the 2022 lists. --CBD 21:06, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

US-centric inline template

Hi! I'd like to request a template similar to Globalize-inline specific to American content. I often edit financial articles where statements (and not the whole article) are very focused on information that is only accurate or applicable to the US. Thanks! A. C. SantacruzPlease ping me! 16:05, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Your situation is exactly what Globalize-inline was created for. It indicates the lack of perspective outside of a narrow locale - normally the US, but sometimes also the UK, Australia, Canada, India, or other culturally dominant English speaking locale. @A. C. Santacruz: I mean if you think it's necessary to specifically call out exactly where the unbalanced narrative is biased towards, I would just bring it up at the template talk page as a feature request for a parameter to indicate the geography of the bias.
