Wikipedia:Editor review/PageantUpdater 2
PageantUpdater (talk · contribs) It's been a long time since my last review and I was hoping for feedback on my editing style. I would particularly like to get some constructive criticism as to whether find me too confrontational, whether I am too brash, or whether I am just fine.
I must admit that I'm rather saddened by the amount of time I have to spend batting away vandals and disruptive editors in order to maintain articles at Wikipedia's standards. More recently, I have had to devote a lot more time than I would have liked on articles such as Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll and Miss Universe 2007 in order to revert vandals and editors who mean well but clearly have no understanding of WP's policies and guidelines nor any desire to learn. I also get frustrated when editors with large numbers of image violation warning templates continue to upload whole series' of images of reality television contenders, making a whole lot of work for others to sort out. These things do lead to a fair bit of dismay on my part.
My main area of interest is beauty pageants although I lend a hand at editing other articles as well. My aim is to actively improve articles, rather than something small here or there, and to this end I have put in a heap of work recently attempting to format reference articles properly. Despite this, I often seem to end up in conflict with other editors, particularly User:Abu badali and User:Evrik over the past few months.
So let me know... what do you think? Should I keep going the way I have been? Do I need to try and be more diplomatic? Do I simply need to be more open to others? Has my interpretation of guidelines and policy been correct? What do I need to brush up on? -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 04:59, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

You already covered your main problem: stress. If Wikipedia stops being fun, people stop participating in it. Now if you'd rather play baseball and not edit, that's fine - we don't need you. But if you do choose to edit, we want you to be happy.
One of the most familiar methods of dealing with stress is to take a break - either from the issue that's bothering you, or from the entire project. See WP:TEA and WP:WIKIBREAK, respectively. You can also take a step back and read articles instead of trying to write them, e.g. looking through the "Did you know?" on the Main Page. And if all else fails, there's always WP:BJAODN.
Your edit methodology is fine. Apparently you check your articles for vandalism, and occasionally you need to revert because you're not the only person who cares about the subject. That's life, and a lot of editors have to deal with it. If you ask enough people, you will find a sympathetic ear. Your image deletion work is well focused, and your tireless efforts to place references on biographies of living people is deserving of great admiration.
As a symbolic measure, I recommend that you delete your user subpage relating to the Evrik conflict. The RFC has been archived for a month now. It's time for you to move on.
I would also ask you to consider how you can improve the effectiveness of WikiProject Beauty Pageants. I didn't look there, so I can't be more specific.
I wish you good luck. YechielMan 03:41, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Its entirely too long. See WP:SIG. Wǐkǐɧérṃǐť(Talk) 01:25, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Your signature is ridiculous. Signatures are for identification. Either simplify it or just use the standard signature. --Deskana (fry that thing!) 14:27, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
- Greetings. You're doing a lot of good for Wikipedia; keep it up. Wikibreaks are good for the soul, I've found, so don't be afraid of them. The best word of advice I can offer regarding being stressed by other users is this: what a given person thinks about you just isn't that important. If someone's being rude to you, he's probably just a lonely kid sitting at a computer taking out his stresses on random people. Who cares what he thinks? I like to think about it this way: if I were walking past somebody's house and some kid was being obnoxious, would I try to set him straight? No, I wouldn't bother, since he's not my problem. It's the same online. When I revert a poor edit or have to defend a version on a talk page, I try to be polite but succinct. I don't take anyone's foolishness personally. Your factual edit summaries (e.g. "rv - please only use common names" or "remove some I can't find reliable sources for") are entirely appropriate. But when you show frustration at a user (e.g. "is this guy a bozo?"), it reflects badly on you. In between the two, you sometimes say things like "revert removal of comment about Mario Lopez - please discuss this on the talk page before removing it again", but it would be better to leave a respectful, brief, and firm defense of your edit on the talk page, and then revert the article with a note like "restoring information - please see talk". Whenever your comments could be read as parental, some rebellious teenager will use them as an excuse to get stubborn or mouth off, which just leads to more frustration. - You should reflect on your behaviour onWikipedia:Articles for deletion/Holly Shively. You were wilfully abusive. BTLizard 09:21, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- Attacking users like you did to Calton is a bad idea. --T. Wiki 02:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Questions
- Of your contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- One thing I've enjoyed more recently is putting effort into going back through articles I've created and using things live Factiva and Google News Archive to properly reference as many articles as I can.
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- My conflicts with User:Abu badali and User:Evrik have caused me much stress, but I have done my best to work within community consensus to work through issues with these editors and others.
