Tuvok ← Voyagerfan5761's throwaway account

[edit]

Seraphim Whipp suggested to me that I usurp the ancient account Tuvok because I've been going by that nickname for almost two years (relevant conversation). I just checked the contribs, and there are two edits: One is a minor spelling correction, and the other a tiny change to fix bad italics. It does not seem to me that those edits would be significant. The user has made no edits since those two in June 2005, making it nearly three years since the user has edited.

I created the throwaway account just for renaming to Tuvok, to give me control of the ancient account. According to the note I substed on Tuvok's page (in this case the usurpation target, not me), that account will be renamed to something else, so the account will still be available. I do not see any issues with this request, at least not with my limited knowledge of the process.

I will be back here momentarily with my throwaway account to prove that I own it.

Proving ownership of account. This is Voyagerfan5761 speaking. Voyagerfan5761's throwaway account (talk) 15:10, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It just occurred to me that there's also a TUVOK here, who hasn't edited since 2005. They created a few templates, though, so I'm doubtful about that one. Should I bother filing a request for that account too, or is there no chance? Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 20:02, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fixing the spelling of Maddox's name is relatively substantial; minor, yes, but it's a valid one. hbdragon88 (talk) 23:31, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kéiryn ← Northenglish

[edit]

Reason: I had retired from Wikipedia in mid-2007, and have recently returned. During my time away, I created a new account to use when I didn't want people to know I was still lurking. I would like the two accounts to be merged to the new name, and while I know WP:CHU says accounts can't be merged, the new account has no GFDL-significant edits. (One to the user page, one to the user talk page, and one to Wikipedia:Copyright problems. -- NORTH talk 15:06, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain what you would like done. As you noted, accounts cannot be merged. The bureaucrats can move all of Nortenglish's edits to the Kéiryn name, but the edits currently under the Kéiryn name would have to be moved elsewhere, and would not stay with it. Also, can you sign into the Kéiryn account and post somewhere to indicate that you own the account? seresin | wasn't he just...? 18:07, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the plan you mention above is fine. Basically, I just want to be able to use my new name, but have my old contributions (I don't particularly care about the 3 edits under the new account). At the time I created the new account, I did not plan on returning to Wikipedia fully, so I did not foresee this being an issue. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes. -- NORTH talk 17:39, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And here is the aforementioned proof. -- Kéiryn (talk) 17:41, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey seresin, thanks for the note. I figure that if I want to register an account, it should be the screen name I want (assuming that it's available, which it appears to be), right? For me, it doesn't make sense to edit some with this screen name (which I only created after I saw "Paddy Dignam" had been taken and the screen pointed me here), and then request a "usurpation." Just my two cents Username9238432 (talk) 01:00, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What Seresin meant is that we want to make sure that the usurped name is put to good use. Therefore, requests will usually only be granted to users who have been around a while. There are exceptions, however. Xenon54 01:12, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I see what you mean, but again, when I came to Wikipedia to register the account "Paddy Dignam" the screen said to come here to see about getting that account, so here I am, I guess, haha. I can promise to 'put it to good use'; I'd like to start editing, but it seems silly to edit with this screen name when I only created it for the purpose of getting the "Paddy Dignam" name. Per Shorebot's userpage The account is of an established user who intends on creating a bot account.
Note:
I think the bot should be approved before usurpation takes place, bot are denied or withdrawn and if that happens after usurpation then we will have one more wasted account. I also fail to see how you can not use the old username to interact with the api(see disscusion on Icestorm815's talk page), if you are worried about the user name change stuffing up you code declare a global variable:
$user

This request has been modified from its original version. I have placed it under the now-correct date heading. Since the original request, Lolipod has made roughly 200 more edits; almost all vandalism reverts, although there have been a few other mainspace contributions. As for the requested username, I personally do not think it is a good idea. It would be rather difficult to communicate with him. For example, typing in "User:1/2" does not give you this username; although a redirect could potentially solve that particular problem. seresin | wasn't he just...? 04:39, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is my real nickname, I tried to select it when I made an account, but it was apparently in use. However, I can't see that any edits have ever been made from it.--Jpkmaster (talk) 16:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The target username has no deleted edits logged.
  • The current owner of the username has been notified of this usurpation request.

I don't think the edits pose a problem given that the contribution was not GFDL significant and was self reverted. Although the user requesting usurpation is very new, having spoken to them I am convinced they will put the name to good use. I am therefore minded to perform this rename in a week if no objection is made by the target account. WjBscribe 03:20, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

McCormack ← JamesMcCormack

[edit]
This may not actually be a "usurpation" request, per se, as there is currently no User:McCormack (Big C). This might just be a straight rename request, if I'm reading this right? If it makes any difference, User:Mccormack (little c) has no edits, no deleted edits, but does have an email set. – Luna Santin (talk) 10:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, at present I cannot create the account User:McCormack. If you like, please think of this as a combined request to (a) usurp User:Mccormack (small c) and then (b) rename User:Mccormack to User:McCormack, which could also be performed in the reverse order. ;-) --JamesMcCormack (talk) 11:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: if you don't mind the account user:Mccormack continuing to exist, I can rename you to User:McCormack straight away. WjBscribe 18:15, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's up to you. If the account-holder of user:Mccormack was to become active, it might get confusing, but as the account has existed since 2006 without use, it's probably a truly dead account anyway. So perhaps a simple rename might be the best thing. Thanks! --JamesMcCormack (talk) 18:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I find my current Username quite sombre, so I decided for a change.

Note:
  • The target username meets the requirements for usurpation.
  • The current owner of the target username has an email address set, and an email has been sent by a clerk or bureaucrat to notify them of this request. --Chris 20:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to an editor, the account Mad Hatter was created but was never used. Since I moved my page up there, I've been making edits from that account.
Regards: Mad Hatter (talk) 06:53, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the editor that pointed Painbearer to this page. I didn't, and still don't, see any contributions from the Mad Hatter account. What am I missing? --OnoremDil 13:41, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is odd. I could've sworn there were edits by the Mad Hatter account. It does seem, however, that this is not the case. Therefore, the renaming will probably be carried out. The only problem might be the automatic page moves, as the talk page for the Painbearer account has edits that will probably need to be merged; I can help with this if a bureaucrat does not wish to deal with it. As a side note, moving userpages like this without renaming accounts is very bad form, and is probably disallowed, and such pages should be deleted under U2. seresin | wasn't he just...? 01:14, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Template updated and email sent, also the requesting account has been the subject of recent blocks --Chris 20:26, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red Phoenix ← Redphoenix526

[edit]

This change is for reasons of personal preference, as well as the name being what I'm referred to on a lot of article talk pages and other discussion pages, so the change makes it easier for those people, too. I also checked out the contributions for the account I plan to usurp, and there are 4 edits (all from February 2005), of which none of the information added remains today. Redphoenix526 (Talk) 02:41, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note:
  • The target username has made edits to Wikipedia. Due to licensing concerns, this may be a barrier to usurpation. seresin ( ¡? ) 07:04, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The current owner of the username has been notified of this usurpation request.
  • The current owner of this username does not have an email address specified.
  • I didn't think they would be under the GFDL since, from what I saw, none of that information is on the pages anymore. I took a look over each and every edit of the four and I didn't see anything on the articles edited relating to what was added by the dormant user. Redphoenix526 (Talk) 07:33, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done - taking into account that the edits span only 7 minutes in 2005, their lack of encyclopedic value and that the pages concerned are now redirects unlikely ever to become articles again (none of the edits were merged into those redirect's targets). WjBscribe 01:18, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LA to be a doppleganger account for Lady Aleena

[edit]

As LA (talk · contribs · global contribs · logs · block log) has not made any edits, and since I use the initials LA in my signature, I would like to use User:LA as a doppleganger account. - LA @ 22:31, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you are asking that a bureaucrat rename the LA account to something else, and you recreate the LA account? seresin | wasn't he just...? 01:14, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes please, if it is not too great an imposition. - LA @ 07:48, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Whether or not a usurpation will be allowed for a non-primary account has come up before. A bureaucrat will need to comment here. If he will also comment on whether the usurpation should be done as described above, or if Aleena should create a placeholder account to usurp with would be helpful. seresin | wasn't he just...? 07:57, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can I please get an update on what is going on with this request? - LA @ 23:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
