User talk:Xpda
You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.
If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page.
You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 03:02, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Request reason:
I read the username policy, per your request. * xpda is not misleading. * xpda is not disruptive or offensive. * xpda does not violate the BLP policy. * xpda is not a promotional name, and does not represent the name of a company, group, institution, or product. * xpda does not promote a commercial web page. (xpda.com is not a commercial site) * xpda does not imply shared use. * xpda is not confusing. * xpda is not non-script. * xpda is not a real name, stage name, has no non-Latin characters, and as far as I know is not similar to other usernames. * xpda is not a commonly misspelled username. I have been using this username for almost 8 years without harassment from anyone at Wikipedia. The Wikipedia Blocking Policy states that blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia. Wikipedia has gotten by without damage and disruption from the username xpda for the past 8 years. I cannot see how this block conforms to the Wikipedia Blocking Policy: * prevent imminent or continuing damage and disruption to Wikipedia; * deter the continuation of present, disruptive behavior; * encourage a more productive, congenial editing style within community norms. Perhaps you should consider reading the section of the username policy entitled "Dealing with inappropriate usernames". * Consider leaving well enough alone. * Talk to the user. (You did not. You blocked the account without notice.) * Request for comment. (You did not.) Xpda (talk) 06:07, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Per the discussion below. Alexf was actually pretty generous in only requiring a username change; had I been the blocking admin, you'd have been blocked for spamming as well. Yunshui 雲水 09:42, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
new section for below discussion
[edit]- Alexf - given the above, could you take another look at this block please. Xpda - as helpful as the sarcasm usually is, you may find it more productive to remain polite
- as this is likely a mistake. SQLQuery me! 20:42, 21 December 2017 (UTC)- Question from a neutral admin, if the username Xpda is non-promotional, why are you adding links to xpda dot com? [1] SQLQuery me! 20:45, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- @SQL:
Aha! the plot thickens. I require an explanation for this as clearly (now) your user name is non conforming. Please reread the block notice. Most of the verbiage in your unblock request is not germane. ,The one part that is germane is misleading.<s Honestly, I feel misled. If you'd have requested a simple rename, it would have likely been granted. I would not now unblock with out your affirming you will make no edits, including links, to (apparently) your company.Sorry, clarified. Cheers, -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 23:27, 21 December 2017 (UTC)- @Dlohcierekim:They actually mention xpda.com in the unblock request - and feel that it doesn't make the username promotional because the site is non-commercial. SQLQuery me! 23:32, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks SQL Ah. Must have missed that in the verbiage. So yes, it is a promo user name even if it is not a commercial site. So yes a username change is warranted. And I still would not want to see adding that link anymore as an unblock understanding, 'cause that makes it promo edits as well as promo username. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 01:04, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

- @SQL: Saw this thread a tad late. Indeed the block was for spamming xpda.com (example: Acacesia hamata) -- Alexf(talk) 01:46, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
- Interestingly, the spam links dd not start until 2017's three edits. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 22:39, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
