Andrew Wood Wilkinson
Hi @Perspicax: I put that alumi cat back, but there is obviously some change afoot. He is alumi of the university. scope_creepTalk 20:28, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- He is in the subcat Category:Alumni of the University of Edinburgh Medical School and so should not also be in the parent Category:Alumni of the University of Edinburgh (per WP:SUBCAT). Perspicax (talk) 21:22, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
Alumni categories
You have recently added many biographies to alumni categories. A significant fraction of these (some of which I have undone) were incorrect and should not have been listed in those categories. You appear to be relying on incorrect entries in infoboxes. Please carefully read the text and sources of the articles to verify these categories, not just the infoboxes. People should generally only be listed in alumni categories when they received a degree from a university, not when they were a visiting scholar, postdoc, resident, etc. Infobox data is often only an approximation to the actual story, because of the yes-or-no nature of infobox fields and the tendency of editors to stuff things into the nearest approximately-correct infobox field when there is no field that exactly matches what they are trying to say; infoboxes should not be relied on. As I have only read through about 100 of these before finding it too tedious, I strongly suggest that you read through all of them again yourself and correct your own mistakes rather than leaving them for others to correct. Alternatively, it might be less work for you to mass-rollback all your edits unless you are willing to put in the time and effort to do it correctly. —David Eppstein (talk) 23:43, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
