Replaceable non-free use File:Screenshot-Twin Cities Metro eLibrary-MELSA, Libby app.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Screenshot-Twin Cities Metro eLibrary-MELSA, Libby app.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:44, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the pointing it out. I see it does not fit the definition. I have removed it from the Library article. However, I believe it does fits with non-free use by using in on the Libby Service page itself which does not have a screen shot to the software. I have added it there. If it still fails please let me know and I will do what I can to correct it if possible. Myotus (talk) 15:31, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Photo galleries

[edit]

Photo galleries are generally discouraged, per WP:IG. For readers using mobile devices, galleries make page loading a real chore. If photos cannot easily be placed into articles, just add a link to the Commons. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:01, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Photo galleries are not generally discouraged. As per their statement "Articles consisting entirely or primarily of galleries are discouraged" This is a guideline not a rule. It is a good guideline for many articles but it is a not a hard and fast rule. In the small town and small city articles I have added photo galleries they are but part of the article not the only or primarily content. You were correct in deleting the the gallery in Sabin, Minnesota as I forgot to add the captions for the photos. However, it is already a struggle to achieve notability for articles in rural areas and small cities, let alone flyover country, outside of the media concentrated areas of the East and West coasts. There is little that can be added to these towns because of Media/Urban bias. Photos are at a least a visual way to describe the town in a Wikipedia article.Myotus (talk) 21:28, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
