File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Vlsci pan e small-2.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Usernames and blocks

Okay, here's the thing.

Your username is "Vlsci", which stands for "Victorian Life Science Computation Initiative". We discourage usernames which indicate an organization rather than an individual member of an organization, because that can be taken to mean that the account is being used by the organization as a whole, with different people sharing the password. I appreciate your desire to be open regarding any potential conflict of interest, but you're going about it the wrong way; a note on your userpage stating that "I am an employee of the Public Relations Department of the VLSCI", or whatever, will do just fine.

Based on your assertion that you are a single individual, I'll unblock you; however, I strongly recommend that you file a request at Wikipedia:Changing usernames.

As for the page about the VLSCI, well, I thought it was pretty much ready for mainspace (once I trimmed out about half the content, most of which was stuff about how wonderful the VLSCI is). If you're sure you want it back in userspace, I'll fix that for you also - but please do confirm that request here. DS (talk) 13:37, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As per your e-mail, you want it back in your user space so you "can muck around with the images for a while". The thing is, if the page is in your (or anyone's) user space, then it's not permissible to use non-free images. Non-free images are only permissible for use in articles; it's a legal thing. We have bots that go around and remove non-free images from user pages, and if non-free images aren't being used in any articles, they get marked for eventual deletion.
