Section on digital vaccines
@Jim1138: Hi Jim,
I just noticed that you undid my edit to Vaccines. I am a researcher, psychiatrist and neuroscientist at stanford and added this section based on an abstract that has been accepted at MedicineX. I read the abstract which is published online. Can you please advise about whether this sub section makes sense to add to vaccines and if so, how and when do you think I can add it to the article? Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:4D01:1100:1894:5C0A:2D8:219E (talk) 08:06, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
- May I suggest getting an wp:account? It appears that your IP changes, making it difficult to communicate.
- I checked the link added to digital vaccines and did not see anything mentioned about digital vaccines. Perhaps one needs to be logged in? As I could not verify your edit, I removed it.
- To add content, you would need to wp:cite a wp:reliable source (RS).
- Regarding if it should be added to vaccine, I would suggest you ask Doc James? He is a physician, long time Wikipedia editor and wp:administrator and would have a better idea if it could be added. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:47, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks @Jim1138:. I have contributed to wikipedia a few times in the past about areas related to my research but have just created an account per your suggestion. I don't think a stanford login is needed to access the abstract although you need to dig in to scroll down to the bottom of that page and click through the preliminary program to locate it. Although, I am also not sure if the computer needs to be registered with SUNetID (stanford's network) to get access to the abstracts. I will try to find out from our department's network administrator. The online abstract i cited is available at http://medicinex.stanford.edu/medicine-x-ed-2017-preliminary-program/#1484722189887-a3a541f7-76d0 To locate the abstract you can scroll to the very bottom of the page showing the "preliminary program". The specific tab under the preliminary program section, which you can click on, is the tab for "Engagement Learning Design". You will find the abstract under the Poster Presentation section at the bottom with the title Developing a digital vaccine based on neuropsychology and cognitive behavior therapy to reduce the risk of lifestyle diseases. The peer reviewed abstract is the first in the list with the name of the author. For sake of disclosure, I am on the abstract review committee for the conference at Stanford School of Medicine but I was not among the reviewers of this particular abstract submission nor do I have any conflict of interest with this research. I do know that that the abstract scored very highly from all the reviewers and builds upon previous peer reviewed breakthrough results shown by pioneering methods developed by Prakash et al. Not Vandalism
Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. However, one or more edits you labeled as vandalism, such as the edit at Sandhawalia, are not considered vandalism under Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia has a stricter definition of the word "vandalism" than common usage, and mislabeling edits as vandalism can discourage editors. Please see what is not vandalism for more information on what is and is not considered vandalism. Thank you. --24.79.239.227 (talk) 03:34, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello
Hello, I've reviewed your comment on my article. I don't need to be civil to anyone. It's about doing the right thing. Collaboration is the wrong way to approach Wikipedia because it doesn't allow for independent editing. I have been nominated for many roles and responsibilities on Wikipedia including admin status and I don't see any reason to collaborate, over English grammar.
Can you address this issue? 108.65.249.149 (talk) 03:44, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- Sure. If I see you being uncivil again, I'll warn you again. If you keep it up, I'll request an admin take a look and possibly block you. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 04:12, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I am cjsvobetite. I previously did the same edits that I just made, and you reverted it, so I cited the source and edited it again. Anna Mosca Page Under Construction
I respect you doing what you do, however, could you not be so fast as to threaten my work as soon as I start, since I have the following:
1) 4 years of absence from here to reacquaint myself with navigating my way around here again 2) A brutally slow computer that crashes a lot, hangs even more, and frustrates me frequently 3) 6 incidences of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) that makes your 1 hour of work a 6-9 hour ordeal for me on a GOOD DAY 4) A sleep disorder related to #3 above that exacerbates everything else to make my life pretty challenging as a disabled USAF, service-connected injured Veteran.
Half of this formatting is akin to the ancient days of DOS formatting, Machine Language and/or HTML code-writing, etc. which I cannot master, no matter how hard I try, after 38 years. And when you have an entrenched case of brain fog that cannot focus on too much flip-flopping between pages to quadruple check every little jot and tittle every other minute.
And telling me to try and memorize all the how-to's just adds more misery to the woodpile of things this enbattled gray matter can't handle. Just looking down at the bottom of this text dialog box with all those strange symbols makes my eyes glaze over with pain to even wonder what they do, mean, etc., where I will NEVER go!!!
I am doing my best with 14-plus hours of time invested, just to make half of a page that I might function (I hope!!!) And it has taken me nearly 40 minutes just to write this, due to text hanging, mistyping, etc. Where's the grace to soldier through this, and then let this all come out in the wash in due season? Good Heavens Man, you can't clean your fish before you catch them!!!
Unless you have a 2-clicks, cut and paste fix-all, cure-all solution to this, my volunteer work that keeps me going is going to really be a nightmare rather than a blessing to me and those I am trying to help...
Any suggestions? I am fresh out of ideas... Thank you for understanding, I hope! MDSeverson Mdseverson (talk) 12:37, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Editing of Luboš Motl page
Hi Jim1138, You (or someone else) have signaled the edit I made to Luboš Motl's page as possible vandalism and reverted the article to its preceding state. While I understand getting suspicious on edits on biographies of living persons I don't understand why did this suspicion survive after reading the edit. What I wrote is verifiable, and not from questionable sources, as has instead been signaled. The sources I cite, of course, are from Motl's blog, a (self-published) personal blog, but it neither is:
- used as a (questionable source) on some topic of which the author is not a well-known expert;
- used as a self-published source giving information about living people different from the author.
It is a self-published source on itself. More explicitly, it is not even the author talking about his past or his purported aims, it is the author talking for himself expressing his own view.
It is not as using his page where he asserts he has always been against immigration, etc., to report that he always has; it is using his page where he asserts that he is against immigration, etc., to report that he stated he shared that view at the time of publication of his blog entry; I hope the point is clear.
What has to be verified is exactly that he stated A on his blog, so the only way to reliably source such a claim is to point to where he has said A on his blog. I can't think of something better at least.
Note that to avoid making more generic claims harder to justify on the base of the cited entries of the blog I have just reported the specific things he has said, almost with the same wording, as can be verified from the first quote I used (for what concerns gay couples).
I hope you agree with my comment, or give me reasons why you don't.
I won't try to revert the article to its preceding state and will be waiting for you or someone else to do that, since there is no reason why that bit of information had to be cancelled, in terms of unsourced material at least.

Need some help :)
Hi Jim,
I would like to thank you for all the time and effort you have spent in keeping Wikipedia accurate as possible.
I see that you are a very experienced Wikipedia editor therefore, I am messaging you in the hope of getting some help/advice.
I was reading through the "Insurgency in Balochistan" and I have identified some misinformation/lies. on the fourth paragraph it states that "Baloch militants have targeted minority communities such as Hazara Shia on the basis of their religious beliefs." this is totally wrong. Baluch nationalists do not target people based on their religious beliefs. The whole paragraph is false. The Hazara community has always been targeted by radical Islamist groups such as the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Sipah-e-Sahaba both were founded in Punjab and are non Baluch organisations. These are clear facts that you can confirm by doing a simple Google search. The paragraph also does not provide any references regarding what is written in it except a timeline of the attacks on the Hazara community. The whole paragraph is aimed at defaming Baluch nationalist by portraying them as religious extremists when in fact they're quite the opposite.
I sincerely request and hope that you take the necessary actions to get rid of this misinformation.
If you require additional information please do let me know.
Thank You

- @Jim1138: Hi, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insurgency_in_Balochistan this is the link to the article. it is the fourth paragraph which i am referring to, the one that starts with "Baloch militants have targeted minority communities such as Hazara Shia on the basis of their religious beliefs." Thanks!
- @Nouman Baluch: I wouldn't classify it as totally wrong since the Hazara are being targeted, just apparently not by "Baloch militants". The best way to lie is to have it mostly truthful. I would suggest that you lay out your case on talk:Insurgency in Balochistan. Use wp:reliable sources to support your points. Then, remove the erroneous content with an edit summary "removed misleading information, see talk page". This way someone else won't revert your edits (again). See wp:talk page guidelines (Please remember to sign your talk with four tildes "~~~~") Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 11:32, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Jim1138: I am not able to edit the page for some reason, when i make a change and try to save it the page never loads. Yes Hzaras are being targeted but this has nothing to do with baluch militants, therefore, that paragraph doesn't belong there. You can do a simple google search and you'll find who is targeting the hazara community, saying that the baluch militants target hazara is an outright lie.
- @Nouman Baluch: Not sure what the problem is, but if you can't edit it, I wouldn't be able to do so either. Wikipedia does sometimes glitch. There are also wp:Edit filters which you may have inadvertently hit. Try a Help:Dummy edit Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:06, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Revenge of the Sith Novel Edit
Hello Jim1138,
I'm sorry that I didn't respond sooner in respect to my ROTS novel edit. In the DVD Commentary at Chapter 40: Battle of the Heroes, Lucas confirmed that there was a continuity error during that scene. In one shot, Obi-Wan is holding Anakin's lightsaber (as evidenced by the hilt), but then in the next shot, Obi-Wan is holding his own lightsaber. If you go to http://www.geocities.ws/mrghoul_01/theduel.html, it describes the scene where Obi-Wan is seen holding Anakin's lightsaber. At http://www.geocities.ws/mrghoul_01/mustafar_images/saberhilt_comparison.jpg, you can see shot by shot comparisons where the lightsaber hilt is seen changing (from Anakin's to Obi-Wan's back to Anakin's). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jango32 (talk • contribs) 12:38, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

I was just trying to be helpful by contributing a little something to a resource I have used since its inception (Wikipedia overall).
I was attempting to cite this book: https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Long_Twentieth_Century.html?id=cFfKtpgn4fkC
I am almost certain that I have all of the information necessary to add the proper citation (below), so what is the proper way to go about citing this source, in order to be in line with Wikipedia's policies?

Philadelphia Union/ Doops Nickname
It's common knowledge, featured in countless merchandise, and referenced nonstop by the team, how do you even provide sources/citations for a nickname anyways. Do you even pay attention to the team and/or league? Or do you just go to random pages that were recently updated?

- Your bot doesn't understand ref escape tags and is creating red links in the References section (desktop view): https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Clonaid&diff=770902378&oldid=770883272

my edit
Thanks for the welcome! But no, I don't feel welcome in fact, because two dudes immediately started threatening me when I joined. It's my personal goal to edit things which have anti-woman content in order to correct the historical record. I am a historian. It does history no favors to have the Bernie Bros painted as victims when they harassed thousands of women with demeaning comments. That isn't biased. It's factual. The word misogyny belongs there. Is it civil to threaten me with vandalism? Please let me know the bro got the same message. Eclune (talk) 22:07, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Eclune: For adding unsourced defamatory content to a wp:BLP, it would be considered quite acceptable. There is lots of wp:vandalism on Wikipedia. Unfortunately we wp:RCPers don't have enough time to spend time with attempting helping individuals. So, they get wp:templated. Please reply on your talk page. the bernie page
Well actually-the word "perjorative" is unsourced too. That isn't considered inflammatory language but misogynistic-- an accurate term which better explains why they GOT a perjorative nickname -- is out of bounds? The paragraph is misleading and inaccurate: to describe the bros as "intense" when they routinely told women on the internet that they should be raped and murdered and left to die, called them cunts and bitches and whores because they were VOTING FOR ANOTHER CANDIDATE is exactly what misogyny IS. You are perpetuating it. Congratulations. Have a nice day. Eclune (talk) 22:34, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
Stagg Chili redirected to Hormel
There is a notice that Stagg Chili should merge into Hormel. Even more so, the article on here was just too short and not so vague (the article on the Hormel website has a lot more vagueness of it), it should really merge or be deleted. Before this ever gets removed, it better be redirected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.6.187.239 (talk) 23:22, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Is or was?
So technically it's "is an amendment". But that's very misleading considering that it's 154 years old, and not likely to get ratified (well, it wasn't before the 11/8 disaster, anyway). So I suggest using past tense, with an explanation that it is still (technically) pending ratification. BMJ-pdx (talk) 15:40, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Re. EHR = MAMA
What if: electron hole recombination is basically the same as matter-antimatter annihilation? Specifically the way electron holes behave as slower than electrons and more massive suggests that the same physics might apply? If so then I may just have proved by analogy that the hypothesis about antimatter being time reversed matter circa 1949 by Feynman is essentially correct.
Am working on a paper right now which outlines my hypothesis and could be a quantum leap towards a theory of everything. Also by extension this allows for antigravity to be generated on the desktop! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.3.100.46 (talk) 05:43, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

- the wikipedia guidelines state that if there is not enough room in an edit summary to explain the edit, the user may do so in the talk section. That is what I did. I should have left an edit summary, and I apologize for that, but it was a mistake—however, the fact remains that the edits I made are needed and adding to the quality of the article. Re: The "Jim" problem in Wikipedia(?)
"Hello Jim I added a link to one of the non-believer's webpages ... a "Stella Star Lore" woman who lives on the Tweed Volcano area of NSW, on the coast up near the Queensland Border.
She has masses of stuff.
You then re-deleted saying that was not a reliable source.
Well then how do you suggest adding to Wikipedia that not all Australian Aborigines (or others) believe in the Out of Africa theory.
I myself am an orthodox science believer and I do believe in out of Africa theory and that we arise by evolution and NOT by any form of special creation .. and also I do not believe we in any way came from any form of star people or aliens.
Yet some do believe all those alternative things and do think Australian Aborigines arose in Australia and not in Africa or anywhere else.
Even though I do not agree with them I also think it should not be censored out of existence on Wikipedia the fact that some Australian Aborigines or others do hold such "odd" or "nutty" beliefs.
But if links to anything they say will always be erased because they are stated to be "unreliable sources" -- and then linkless articles will be deleted because they have no citations the whole thing becomes Catch 22.
What is the work-around, please?

- If everyone's "alternate theory" where their people came from were to be added to this page, there would be no room for the topic. There has to be thousands versions or more. Perhaps it should go on creationism, one of these pages: Category:Creation myths or its own page? It is not the topic of Out of Africa I and I don't think it belongs there. Miller Beach (also Aetna (Gary))
This is just the latest in a long series of IP's that have been changing Miller from neighborhood to community. I grew up in that area and ever since the 60s, it has been a local sentiment that Miller and Aetna are not actually a part of Gary. I'm sure these edits today are just a further part of that. This has been going on for the entirety of the 5 years I've been here and I'm pretty sure there is just one human behind it. It spread to Aetna just today, with the content being rearranged to put greater emphasis on the neighborhood's ancient history as an independent town. Can't help but think this relates to the fact that Miller and Aetna are the only two majority white neighborhoods in Gary, as all of Gary's neighborhoods (excepting downtown and the central district) were at one time independent towns. None of the IP'S have engaged and there is an open discussion on Miller's talk page. If memory serves me, you have a few more buttons to push than I. My Recent WTOG Edits Were Of Good Intention But Incorrectly-Executed
Yes, I most assuredly made mistakes in my attempts at editing the WTOG article. I wanted to cite proof (from the RabbitEars.info links) that WTOG now provides a full-market simulcast of Telemundo-affiliated WRMD-CD as a third sub-channel (and also cite the RabbitEars.info links to the two translators too) but must have made a syntax error of some kind that wiped out a significant amount of information within the article. As I frantically scrambled to correct the matter, you must have beat me to it and fixed the error yourself, erasing my notation of the third sub-channel simulcast of WRMD-CD on WTOG-DT3. When I attempted to submit my correction changes, Wikipedia wouldn't let me so when I reloaded the article on a new tab, I noticed the article had been reverted back and I had a message from you. I finally found a way to adequately-cite the existence of WTOG-DT3, as well as providing the RabbitEars.info links for the two translator stations.64.39.94.248 (talk) 01:25, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

I noticed in the Online Dating Sites there were not many links to gay dating sites so I added links. Why were they inappropriate so I can know in the future?
Starnexus (talk) 06:23, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Starnexus: Well, several of the categories on wp:What Wikipedia is not apply: Not a means of promotion, Not a repository of links, Not a directory, Not a networking service, etc. It's best for people to use a search engine and find it on their own. If some were allowed on, probably everyone would want free publicity. On Wikipedia, such links fall under the general category of spam. It is a rather constant battle to keep spam links down to a minimum. They do leak through sometimes and are removed sooner or later. If a spam website gets added enough, it is added to the wp:spam blacklist which makes prevents linking unless specifically approved. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:22, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Ryan Braun Civil Lawsuit
Jim,
HoustonRed here. You wrote me a message in December, I just saw that you agreed that the civil lawsuit section on the Ryan Braun page did not contribute to the overall content of the article, and you stated that you would leave its disposition to me. Accordingly, I will remove the civil lawsuit section. I have attempted, through time and some more mature consideration, to find some relevance between the civil lawsuit section and the entire page as a whole. Try as I may, when reviewing the article in its entirety, combined with the substance of the civil lawsuit section, I am having great difficulty delineating precisely how the lawsuit section even is relevant to Braun himself or would provide a reader with greater insight into Braun as a person or a professional. As an observer of the "newsworthiness" of the civil lawsuit saga, I was inclined to provide contribution to the page in that regard, but upon further review, as well as your input on the issue, I find that the section has taken on a life of its own and discusses ancillary or collateral matters which are not really contributing to Braun's wikipedia page. As such, I will remove it. If there are any problems or objections, please give me a shout.

- (Left on their talk page as well, just in case they are moving between IPs): Internet service providers assign IP addresses to their customers, and some of these are temporary. These are called dynamic IPs. Usually, this is why some people get messages about other people's edits. However, your IP address is static, which means that it is the IP address that you used last month. Someone using this IP address did make an inappropriate edit last month. It is still possible that someone is connecting to your wifi without you knowing it, but we can't really distinguish between anonymous users, just their IP addresses (see WP:BROTHER for more information).
