[edit]Iamsogoodatchess1469, welcome to Wikipedia. I've noticed a bunch of your edits on college football articles in recent days and want to point out a few issues and mistakes, some of which I have reverted. Generally speaking, websites like http://mexicosportscollectibles.com/, https://mcubed.net/, https://ahsfhs.org/, https://utestats.com/ should not be considered reliable sources and should be not be cited on Wikipedia. These sites all look like personal database projects with no clear statement of editorial oversight. In many cases, these site appear to just be copying what is reported in various media guides, or copying other sources that have pulled info from media guides. And program media guides tend to be littered with inaccuracies and omissions, particularly when going back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. We have a growing lists of such errors here: Wikipedia:WikiProject College football/Media guide errors.
When database sites like those above or media guides are in conflict with well-documented contemporary news coverage, we should defer the contemporary news coverage. For example, at 1928 Haskell Indians football team, the score of the Tulsa game was reported by the Tulsa Tribune the day after the game as 27–6 with details that substantiate how that final score was attained. Those websites that you cited for the 33–6 score appear to repeating an error that originates in the Tulsa media guide. We have a similar story with the location of the Jackson State vs. Mississippi Valley State game at 1993 Jackson State Tigers football team and 1993 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils football team. Newspaper coverage confirms that this game was played at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson. A couple other notes there: first, citing eBay listings is not a good idea. Second, the discussion/notation you added with this edit belongs in the article's talk page, not in the article itself.
Articles like 1920 University of Wisconsin–Stout football team should not be created without sourcing that establishes that the subject is notable; see Wikipedia:Notability. In 1920, the University of Wisconsin–Stout was known as "Stout Institute", so this article is misnamed. It should probably be named 1920 Stout Institute football team or 1920 Stout Institute Blue Devils football team (if the "Blue Devils" fight name was already in use in 1920) or something like that.
You may want to see about getting access to Newspapers.com. It's a great resource. See: https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/partners/26/. Let me know if you have any questions about this stuff. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 14:52, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

Iamsogoodatchess1469, how's it going? I appreciate your continued enthusiasm here, but you have been creating a lot of low-quality college football season articles with insufficent sourcing, which could easily subject such articles to deletion. I see you've been able to pull some contemporary newspaper coverage from Google Books. That's good, but sites like http://www.mexicosportscollectibles.com/, https://college-football-results.com/, and https://mcubed.net/ appear to be just personal internet projects by unnamed editors. While they can be useful for pointing one's research in the right direction, they should not be cited as they are not reliable sources. Feel free to challenge my assessment here at Wikipedia talk:Reliable sources or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football, but I'm confindent that consensus will concur me with me. Access to Newspapers.com would really help you a lot. I see you are now over 500 edits and closing in on the sixth-month mark. See: https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/partners/26/. I'm happy to endorse your application.
Some other items:
- All won–loss records and game scores should be punctuated with an endash (–), not a hyphen (-). See: MOS:DASH for more on that.
- When citing sources, you should make use of standard citation templates like Template:Cite news or Template:Cite web. Take a look at my edits to 1942 Alcorn A&M Braves football team for how to use these.
- When a source's title is in all caps, it should be down-cased to title case, e.g. "FOR ROBINSON, TOO MUCH TIME IS A MINOR INFRACTION" should be entered as "For Robinson, Too Much Time Is A Minor Infraction."
- When citing the same source multiple times in the same article, the reference should be named, and then subsquent uses of the reference can use that same name to reduce clutter and repetition; see Wikipedia:REPEATCITE. Check out Clinton L. Hare for an example of this. A source from Yale is used multiple times there. The first use is encoded as

and then subsquent uses are encoded as
- A lof of the coverage of black college football from the pre-intergration era comes from African American newspapers that were often published only weekly or monthly. So it can be tricky figuring out the dates of games just from a list of scores.
Let me know if you questions about this stuff. Thanks, Jweiss11 (talk) 16:16, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- But can I site college-football-results.com and http://mexicosportscollectibles.com for win-loss records? And what about college-football-results.com for game order? Iamsogoodatchess1469 (talk) 16:46, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, sources that aren't reliable should not be cited anywhere on Wikipedia for anything. Jweiss11 (talk) 12:10, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Iamsogoodatchess1469, you are still citing these unreliable sources, and making a number of other mistakes that I detailed above, like with the endashes and citation formatting. And you're making basic mistakes like incorrect navboxes and categories on articles like 1941 Xavier Gold Rush football team. I recomemnd you move slower and try to do a neater job on one article before you move onto the next. And you should not be creating articles like 1928 Louisiana Normal Tigers football team unless you can find a number of reliable, indepednent sources to establish notablity. Generally, these early micro-seasons (where a team plays less than five games) are not going to be notable eough for a stand-alone article. We generally batch those seasons into decades, e.g. Kendall Orange and Black football, 1895–1899. Jweiss11 (talk) 18:19, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- But those sources still offer an overall picture, such as a team's win-loss record, and they normally get that right Iamsogoodatchess1469 (talk) 18:36, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- I applied for access to newspapers.com using https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/partners/26/ Iamsogoodatchess1469 (talk) 03:24, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

- In schedule tables, the Bethany should be displayed as "Bethany (KS)" to distinguish it from Bethany of West Virginia.
- Bethel did not adopt the "Threshers" fight name until 1960. The were known as the "Graymaroons" from the 1920s until 1960; see Bethel Threshers.
- You're misformatting newspaper references from Google Books and Chronicling America. For example, at 1942 College of Emporia Fighting Presbies football team, you entered a citation as follows:

. There are a bunch of problems here:
- Mismatched date formats
- Newspaper title miscapitalized (Chronicling America seems to do this in their text display above the newspaper images, but we should not repeat this error.)
- Newspaper entered in publisher field instead of newspaper field
- No page number
- Sloppy reference URL with search teams embedded; these should be stripped out
- Via field omitted
Here's how this should be formatted:

- Okay, that's soon! In the meantime, let's fix the errors above. It would also be helpful if you added stub tags to new articles that you create, like

at the bottom of 1902 College of Emporia Fighting Presbies football team. And care with categories. You included on the 1902 Emporia article, which doesn't belong. I also see that you grouped the 1898 to 1901 Emporia articles. It probably makes more sense to do decade groupings, like 1893 to 1899 and 1900 to 1909. Also for the season links on team navboxes, like Template:College of Emporia Fighting Presbies football navbox, just leave the individual season links intact, and if there are grouped season articles, the individual season links should redirect appropriately. - Okay, that's soon! In the meantime, let's fix the errors above. It would also be helpful if you added stub tags to new articles that you create, like
- I reorganized the early Emporia seasons into College of Emporia Fighting Presbies football, 1893–1899 and College of Emporia Fighting Presbies football, 1900–1909. Jweiss11 (talk) 00:59, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Iamsogoodatchess1469, you are continuing to repeat many of the mistakes I've already pointed out to you. You are misformatting references from Chronicling America. In particuarly you are misplacing the name of the periodical in the publisher field and miscapitalizing the name of the periodical. Here is any example of me correcting that type of error: [2]. Also, please stop citing or referencing mexicosportscollectibles.com in any way. It's not a reliable source. It's some random collection of data on the internet. Any information that it happnens to report correctly can be verified with actual reliable sources. college-football-results.com is also questionable and should probably not be cited. That doesn't mean you can use these sites for clues to start your research, but any information they suggest should be corroborated with a reliable source. Jweiss11 (talk) 17:28, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- can I keep using college-football-results.com? It it more accurate than mexicosportscollectibles Iamsogoodatchess1469 (talk) 17:40, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- You should avoid citing college-football-results.com. Without access to newspapers.com, you're really forcing a lot of these articles with low-quality references. Even the mere lists of scores from Chornicling America are sub-optimal when full detailed accounts of most or all of these games are likely available on newspapers.com. It would be best if you focused on cleaning up the mistakes that you're making, rather than creating more articles. You're still misformatting references on you latest creation, 1938 Haskell Indians football team. You should also check that you are formatting opponents correctly, taking into consideration accurate school and fight names for the time. In 1938, Central Methodist University was called "Central College". A good place to check would be 1938 college football season, where you can find Template:1938 Missouri College Athletic Union football standings and see the proper formatting for the Central Eagles:

Articles that may not pass WP:GNG/WP:NSEASONS
[edit]I appreciate your passion for the history of college football. However, the following articles do not include sourcing demonstrating that they pass the notability standards set forth in WP:GNG and WP:NSEASONS:
- 1907 Louisiana Normal football team - This was a single game, and the only sourcing is a one-paragraph game summary from the Shreveport newspaper. You would have a better chance of meeting notability standards if you combined this into a grouped article on the years 1907-09 (or perhaps even 1907-19). See WP:NSEASONS -- "In cases in which the individual season notability is insufficient for an article, multiple seasons may be grouped together in a single article. This grouping might be based on head coaches, conference affiliation, or any other reasonable standard that results in sufficient coverage for the period to warrant an article." Without such improvements, and in its current state, this article would be subject to deletion.
- 1894, 1895, 1897, 1899, 1900, and 1901 Tuskegee Golden Tigers football teams. - These are all single-game seasons that suffer from the same problems as 1907 Louisiana Normal. None of the cited sources represent WP:SIGCOV. As noted above, a grouped article (per WP:NSEASONS) might help to overcome the problem. Perhaps Tuskegee Golden Tigers football, 1894–1909.
- 1900 Atlanta Baptist football team - a two-game season (one game in which the score is not even known). Article lacks any SIGCOV and is based entirely on non-independent sources.
- 1881 MIT Techmen football team - Zero WP:SIGCOV, cited solely to stories about the 2014 MIT team with passing mentions of 1881.
- 1902 Howard Bison football team - Very short stub article about a one-game season sourced only to the school's media guide. No WP:SIGCOV and no independent sourcing.
- 1893 Howard Bison football team - Two-game season with no WP:SIGCOV. We don't even have the score of the second game.
If these articles are not improved and brought up to standard, they really shouldn't stay in main space. You could draftify while you search for more/better sourcing or develop multi-season articles. Let me know if you have any questions. Cbl62 (talk) 19:39, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

The article 1900 College of Emporia Fighting Presbies football team has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
So an unknown coach played one game to a team from the same city. How is this a notable subject?
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fram (talk) 11:41, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
