[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Glowingdial", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Does my username violate Wikipedia COI policy?
[edit]I'm fairly new here and have just done my first page edits. I just got a message from user NTox stating that my username possibly suggested promotion or conflict of interest policy violation. I don't see why this should be considered such. The edits were made to the Sightings (tv series) page in the episode list section for the most part. I was only adding information from my web page which is an expanded episode guide and information page about the Sightings tv series. I corrected some episode synopsis and added proper story titles and syndication numbers so the episode guide would be more complete. I don't see what I did as promotional unless you're making a connection with my username "glowingdial" and the fact that part of my website url is "glowingdial.com". I don't wish to do anything wrong here so please tell me what I need to do. Do I simply, as you suggested, change my username to something other than glowingdial, my real name perhaps? I'm not trying to hide my identity or anything. I sincerely hope my edits will remain on the page as I spent some time making them. Oh yes, I also made a few edits on the Project UFO tv series page as well. Thank you, I will wait to hear from you as to what I am to do about this. Cheers! --Glowingdial (talk) 21:57, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- Greetings. You are correct that the message was simply about your username; I cannot comment on the edits themselves since I have not seen them. Since your name corresponds with the name of your website, it needs to be changed to comply with our username policy. It's not a significant issue to worry about; simply visit WP:CHUS and follow the instructions at the top of the page, and you will be able to change your name. A real name is fine, but it doesn't have to be a real name. Best. NTox · talk 18:58, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Your attention needed at WP:CHU
[edit]Hello. A bureaucrat or clerk has responded to your username change request, but requires clarification before moving forward. Please follow up at your username change request entry as soon as possible. Thank you. NTox · talk 06:56, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
