New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello Eagleash. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. TonyBallioni (talk) 13:59, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AfC

[edit]

Hi, and welcome to WikiProject Articles for creation! We are a group of editors who work together on the Articles for creation and Files for upload pages.

A few tips that you might find helpful:

  • Please take time to fully read the reviewers' instructions before reviewing submissions.
  • The reviewers' talk page is the best place to ask for help or advice. You might like to watchlist this page, and you are encouraged to take part in any discussion that comes up.
  • Article submissions that need reviewing can be found in Category:Pending AfC submissions and there is also a useful list which is maintained by a bot.
  • You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. There is also a project userbox. If you haven't done so already, please consider adding your name to the list of participants.
  • Several of our members monitor Wikipedia's help IRC channel, and you are welcome to join in to ask Wikipedia-related questions.
  • The IRC channel #wikipedia-en-afc connect is used occasionally for internal discussion regarding the Articles for Creation process, and also serves as a recent changes feed, displaying all edits made in the Articles for Creation namespace.
  • The help desk is the place where new editors can ask questions about their submissions. You are welcome to help in answering their questions.

Once again, welcome to the project.

Added this myself as it was not added when I joined the proj. and the links should be useful. Eagleash (talk) 13:18, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Are youOK?

[edit]

Hello, I don't think I've met you onwiki before, but I was recently checking the list of editors with the longest editing streaks (which I'm on) and noticed that you were missing on there. You'd edited every day for more than eight years, the fourth-longest recorded streak ever ... and then suddenly stopped editing on 29 May. I hope things are alright with you. RIP

[edit]

I just reached out to a friend of this user on Facebook and confirmed the worst ... this user passed away on 8 June this year, aged 70, after a heart attack. RIP ... thank you very much for your long and unwavering service to Wikipedia ... from your work on articles about your beloved Crystal Palace F.C. to helping new users at the help desk and with articles for creation, and so much more! His obituary on the deceased Wikipedians page is here; any improvements to it would be appreciated. Graham87 11:59/12:57, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to hear this. Thank you for what you gave to this project. RIP, Struway2 (talk) 12:33, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also express my sadness to this news about what happened, a great help to other users including myself over the time spent here. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 13:24, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all the chats, my friend, and all the help. Godspeed, and Up the Eagles. Bretonbanquet (talk) 14:05, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • So very sorry to see this, a valuable and tireless editor who'll be greatly missed. My deep condolences to any friends or family who may happen to read this. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:25, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • No... this is very sad news, and I hope that his friends, family, and those who were close to him are okay, that they mourn in a healthy way, and they they know how much value and positivity that Eagleash brought to this project. Wikipedia, as well as the Wikimedia project has a whole, has lost both a very good contributor and a very good person. It was a privilege to know you and work alongside with you, my friend. I hope our paths cross again someday so I can at least buy you a beer. :-) Until we meet again..... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:39, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for passing this on, Graham87. Very sad, and far too young, and a first-rate contributor. My condolences to everyone who knew him well. Girth Summit (blether) 15:46, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was shocked to see Eagleash's name crossed out in a page history like they were a blocked editor and so I came here to find out that, no, they weren't a long hidden sockpuppet but that they have passed away. Another loss for the project. They will be missed. Liz Read! Talk! 21:56, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh no. I learned of this after Liz's comment on Doncram's talk. We have lost so many this year. I didn't know Eagleash well, but certainly knew their name from around the projects. My condolences to their family and friends. Star Mississippi 02:23, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very sad news, my thoughts with his friends and family. GiantSnowman 08:39, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Such a shame, Eagleash was a good editor, you will be missed. May you be at peace. Govvy (talk) 15:49, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

At the top of Eagleash's user page, it currently shows the longest continuous editing streak but the information is showing the up to date version which we know he is no longer part of. Therefore we may consider changing that link to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Database_reports/Longest_active_user_editing_streaks&direction=prev&oldid=1157325253 , which was the latest version Eagleash appeared for the last time. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:02, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ehh I don't think that's necessary ... people can check the page history of that database report if needed. Graham87 09:10, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seems fair enough. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 17:06, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Eagleash, could you please review my article Draft:Mawai Kaziyan. BrownCanary61 (talk) 07:37, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BrownCanary61: He has passed away; see above. Graham87 15:23, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Reece Hannam

[edit]

Hello, Eagleash. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Reece Hannam".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:52, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Hey man im josh: I hope you don't mind but I undeleted this page and redirected it to the main namespace article Reece Hannam, which was created in August 2023. This was a semi-automated message so you weren't to know this, but Eagleash has passed away; his creation of this draft was one small part of his frequent editing about his beloved Crystal Palace Eagles football club. I'll mention the draft on the article's talk page in case anything's worth salvaging from there. Graham87 (talk) 15:11, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Graham87: Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with the undeletion. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:12, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Per a suitably filtered version of his contributions, the only other draft page he created that could be subject to deletion is Draft:Dibro. I'm not terribly sure what to do with that one ... there aren't any mentions of it in the main namespace. Graham87 (talk) 15:44, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am wondering if we should merge the page histories of both the draft and the actual article as I bet SBFCEdit did not know a draft already existed and the timing of contributions does not overlap, except for Graham87's edit today on the draft. Also it should be noted that if anyone tires to create an article and there is a green roadworks sign indicating a draft exists, then we should not attempt to do that and instead submit the draft for review before it gets moved into article namespace.
Thanks Graham87 for restoring the draft history and explaining the unknown to Josh. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:23, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, there weren't any cut-and-paste moves on that page. I wouldn't make a rule about not creating articles when drafts already exist ... there are too many possible situations for such a rule to be the best thing for the encyclopedia all the time. It actually happened to me once; when I created Petite Suite (Debussy, I didn't realise until later that there was already a draft (in 2012 terms) at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Petite Suite (Debussy). In that case there was nothing worth merging from the other page though. Graham87 (talk) 01:44, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As long as the draft history of Reece Hannam remains visible. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:03, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
