License tagging for Image:Davinci-fist.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Davinci-fist.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:07, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Clint Reilly

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Clint Reilly, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Realkyhick 05:36, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leonardo

[edit]

I strongly suggest that you seek editorial help with both Leonardo and Christ carrying the Cross entry. You are entering into the territory of editing wars. I do not think Wikipedia carries the heft of attribution, thus perhaps your entries should be ignored but, it seems such a thoughtless assignment of authorship, that it invites deletion. Dominicgump makes some non-verifiable claims about Leonardo. If he can verify them by citing some source, then I would agree. I would urge the authorities he speaks of, to publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals.

I am uncertain about what you are talking about when you mention Titians. Finally, while there is some heft to attributions by Christies and Sotheby's, you also need to recall that these commercial outfits have been tainted in the past few years by scandals, leading to the indictment of high ranking officials. Again, I would urge that if anyone has a novel Leonardo, please try to publish the analysis for all to see. CARAVAGGISTI 18:30, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution of the Leonardo

[edit]

Having seen on Caravaggisti's talk page, the claim that Carlo Pedretti examined the painting and agreed it was a Leonardo, I have included that information. You must realise that a claim by the owner is worthless in terms of scholarship and can only be recorded in this encyclopedia as a claim by the owner. However, an attribution made by Carlo Pedretti should be cited as such. Since this is recent, the publication in which he made the attribution should be inline cited. Other critics opinions can also be cited.

If Carlo Pedretti thinks he has found a buona fide Leonardo, then one imagines he is over the moon about it, and has published words to that effect. The tondo at the Borghese Museum, for example, has been written up in several papers. So has the Madalene, (although I would consider this attribution to be very shaky indeed.)

The bottom line is, on wikipedia questionable material can be deleted if the source is not cited. Please find the quote that says that Pedretti believes it to be Leonardo. I have searched online. I can't find a picture of the work, and the only reference I could find was to Luke Brugnara stating that in his opinion it was 100% by Leonardo and nobody had told him different. I couldn't get into the rest of the article without paying for it, and I'm not as rich as Mr Brugnara. Perhaps you could locate the article which may be useful. And also, all we Leonardo enthusiasts would love some decent pictures, if they are available.

You could upload them onto Wikipedia using the "upload" function in the toolbox, left of screen, and then leave a message on the discussion page which includes the name of the image thus- Image:Leonardo_Christ_carrying_Cross_01.jpg which you put inside double square brackets. It then shows a small pic, with a link to the full-size one.

Hope this is helpful. --Amandajm 02:26, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Leonardo Da Vinci 01.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Leonardo Da Vinci 01.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Leonardo Da Vinci 01.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:50, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, thanks for trying anyway! Unfortunately it disappeared before I saw it!

I just found your message. Everyone has two pages. A "user page", on which you can describe yourself, or not, as you choose. And a talk page. If you want to leave messages for an individual, rather than about a particular article, go to their talk page, which you can access from the "user page" by using the tag at the top that says "discussion". Then, new topics are put at the bottom, rather than the top of the page. (It took me a while to get used to that.) To start a new discussion just click on the little cross in the menu at the top of the page. Hope this is helpful.
Do you want me to cite that article from Forbes magazine? --Amandajm 11:23, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
