Mike Klein Deletion

Hello! I made a page about chess player Mike Klein, but it was deleted. I reasoned that Mike Klein was not only a Fide Master, but is also the voice behind ChessKid, which was made by Chess.com, a famous chess website. Hey, I'm new to NPP and noticed you drafted an article that I nominated for deletion. I'm very new to NPP and realize that my original reasoning for nominating it for deletion could have been nicer and should have gone into more detail, but I was wondering if there was a specific reason you chose to close the nomination and make it a draft. Is it common for articles listed at AFD to be made into drafts before people have had time to vote? How does someone decide that an article listed for deletion can just be put back into draftspace? IntentionallyDense (talk) 00:57, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@IntentionallyDense: Yes, it is completely common, given that deletion on newer articles is typically uncontroversial (since they are likely to be deleted without anyone objecting) and that's the reason why sending to draftspace is standard procedure in such cases. Opening an AfD should only be viewed as a last resort. CycloneYoris talk! 01:32, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay good to know thank you for taking the time to explain that to me! IntentionallyDense (talk) 02:06, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! CycloneYoris talk! 02:11, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@CycloneYoris: There's a misconception that draftification is the default option, but that's actually disputed depending on who you ask. Many would argue AFD is the more appropriate default option.
With that said, I'm not aware of speedy non-admin closures to draftify at AfD being at all common, I'd actually call them quite rare. The AfD was open for 2 hours and I don't think this is a close I would have made. I discourage you from speedy closing discussions as draftify in the future CycloneYoris. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:37, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hey man im josh: I was referring to sending new articles to draftspace, which is common since NP patrollers do that all the time (myself included); and not closing an AfD as "draftify", which is indeed quite rare as you have pointed out. The reason I did so was because there wasn't much content on the article in question, and opening an AfD was unnecessary IMO. CycloneYoris talk! 21:24, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Article: Tariq Masood - Contest Speedy Deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because (Tariq Masood is a very influential and well-known figure among the Pakistani population. He is no less influential than several other scholars such as Taqi Usmani, Tariq Jameel, and Muhammad Ali Mirza. All of these aforementioned people do have their own wikipedia pages so I do believe that it is fair for him to have his own page as well. See citation number one. On page 237, Mohammad Waqas Sajjad writes, "Mufti Tariq Masood, a Deobandi scholar with a special interest in issues of gender and a vocal critic of liberals in Pakistan, is a prominent name in religious discourses in the country." (https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/handle/20.500.12657/87829/9783110788334.pdf?sequence=1#page=244) ) --HIM20 (talk) 04:48, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply][reply]

I am currently working on improving this article and I don't think there is any fair reason for its deletion. HIM20 (talk) 04:53, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@HIM20: I don't think there is any fair reason for its deletion. Of course there is! It was deleted at this AfD discussion last year. I therefore suggest creating the article via the WP:AfC process (in order to overturn the consensus reached at the AfD). Or you can move it draftspace and submit the draft for review. Good thinking! (ITT Family Games)

[edit]

BEFORE even says to check if it meets CSD, before throwing it to AFD. Too wrapped up in “a PROD will just get wiped by the article creator”, to think of A7. Egg on my face moment here, huh? Thanks for covering the gap in my thought process.

Article creator also has a sock (Djwjsjejej) and if you see what they put in the ‘account creation log’? Sliiightly worrying.

Cheers. MM (Give me info.) (Victories) 20:55, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Matticusmadness: No worries. The good thing is that CSD tags can be reinstated (unlike PROD tags) even if they're removed by the author. I figured that the page was a perfect candidate for A7 since it didn't have a single source. Cheers. CycloneYoris talk! 21:23, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Resident doctor (England) Redirect

[edit]

Just for clarity for myself, on the page Resident doctor (England) you said should be RfD is that the typical procedure even in instances, as was the case here, it was myself who accidentally created it and was putting it forward for CSD as part of fixing the error? Hello, CycloneYoris

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Conyo14, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, List of storms named Hugo, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Conyo14}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Deletion discussion about List of storms named Hugo

[edit]

Hello CycloneYoris, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, List of storms named Hugo, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of storms named Hugo.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Conyo14}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Free and open source software

[edit]

Hello, Im the user that submitted changes to the Free and Open source article a couple hours ago

Seems like you didnt approve my changes because the external link I added seemed to be promotional. Im not sure how would I prove this, but it was not. To be honest with you, I speak native Spanish and I can see the fragmentation of free software community solely because of the word "free" on english. But even then, from time to time I see native English speakers mention "libre" alongside "free" when explaining from the concept scratch to emphasize its about freedom. I think a way of proving my legitimacy is that if you search the literal string "libreware" on Google, libreware.org shows first, above en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software, which was frankly me seeking to read about Free Software on wikipedia how I discovered the site, as well as to keep into account that "libre software" and "libreware" are mentioned there on the lead section, so thats my reasoning

I did make other changes apart adding an external link, which I think simplify the lead section, but I admit were a bit too aggressive. I am aware of my bias towards libreware because of my native language, but I tried not to endorse a personal opinion within the submitted changes

I would like the article to have the changes I made to the lead section, with or without the external link, and maybe with some fine tunes over to satisfy some standard I may have not take into account or anything else. Please reconsider,

Thanks :) 181.91.17.29 (talk) 03:37, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

G11?

[edit]

Hi CycloneYoris, do you think that Swagger Sharma is bad enough to qualify for G11? I came across it while doing reference copyediting on the bus so I don't have more than a few minutes to look into it, but I see that you tagged another article by the same editor – which was deleted – as G11 a few days ago. It's pretty promotional, the one sentence I checked wasn't supported by the cited source, and the sources mostly look trashy, but I don't do much CSD tagging so I don't really know where the boundary lies. Thanks, Wham2001 (talk) 07:42, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wham2001. The structure of the article looks decent, in my opinion, and it doesn't appear to be as bad as to qualify for G11. But perhaps sending to AfD should do the trick. The previous article you've mentioned had no sources (only external links scattered throughout the article), and because of this, it was a clear G11 candidate. CycloneYoris talk! 08:03, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks – that makes sense. I will do a BEFORE and decide whether to AfD it this evening. Best, Wham2001 (talk) 11:31, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 in animation deletion of new Event under Specific date unknown

[edit]

Hello @CycloneYoris, thank you for your dedication.

On September 13, you deleted an edit I made to the 2024 in animation page under the Events > Specific date unknown section. Your concern was about missing a reliable source.

However, I believe that a source would not be necessary, as the information I added does not fall under any of the following: "All quotations, any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, and contentious material [...] about living persons"[1] (taken from the documentation you provided).

Furthermore, the 2024 in animation page is generally missing citations for most of its entries. I'm not saying it as an excuse, it just seems to be more lax on that page.

Reminder to slow down :)

[edit]

Hi, CycloneYoris! I was checking articles for NPP and noticed you had nominated Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea for deletion via A3. However, at the time you nominated it, the article was only two minutes old. As such, I just wanted to stop by and remind you that, per WP:NPPHOUR, "unless there are serious content problems" (i.e., CV, attack, or blatant vandalism), editors should "wait at least an hour before nominating an article for deletion". I know I sometimes move a little too quickly, so I understand how easy it can be to forget to check all your steps. :) Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 04:18, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Significa liberdade! I tagged the page as A3 because it was an exact recreation of a page that was deleted just yesterday by Pickersgill-Cunliffe (which was also deleted under A3), and that's the reason why I rushed to tag it since I noticed that the page was exactly the same. The author is behaving in a disruptive manner since they removed the CSD tag without explanation, even though they've received several warnings on their talk page; and they also didn't explain why they recreated the page in the first place.
