October Baseball WikiProject Newsletter

--  jj137 (talk) 23:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm guessing this was a Manual of Style change? I only ask because virtually all the literature I have that mentions him (event programmes and so on) uses the unpunctuated form of his name, as does the top12runoff website. I have no problems at all with the change, and certainly have no intention of changing it back, but I did find "should be written like that" a little strong given what I've just said. Loganberry (Talk) 23:02, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

If one were being mischievous, one might say that "how a name is written" is defined in the end by how its owner wants it to be written (see The Artist Formerly Known as Prince)! But I'm being deliberately silly here. And no, of course you didn't cause any offence: I'm sorry if I gave that impression. Loganberry (Talk) 23:30, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Hillclimb infoboxes

Thanks for adding those; they definitely add to the articles. Is it possible, though, to customise them a little bit? "Lap record" is clearly incorrect for a non-circuit course, while it also seems anomalous to have the course length in km and miles but not in the "British hillclimbing standard" of yards. I could always go and ask about this at WP:MOTOR, of course, but thought it best to ask you first. Loganberry (Talk) 23:32, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

Okay; fine. I must admit that infobox coding is very far from being a specialised subject of mine! I certainly think that they're better with than without, but at some point I'll ask on the project and see whether the standard box can be modified suitably or whether we'll need to make our own for hillclimb courses. It's not just us, either: Santa Pod Raceway also looks strange with a "Lap Record" field! Loganberry (Talk) 23:41, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Looks very nice. I'm too tired to say more now, but thank you! Loganberry (Talk) 00:30, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

McLaren car article creations

Hello Cs-wolves. I think some of the articles you created may be at the wrong location against WP:F1 guidelines - I have started a discussion here to clarify this. Regards, D.M.N. (talk) 09:04, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, just a friendly poke; articles such as this aren't applicable for the "vandalism" tag. Rather you should use the db-bio tag (for non-notable people). Ironholds (talk) 21:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Darts work

Hi cs-wolves,

The Original Barnstar
I award you this barnstar for you hard work on many Darts related articles, particularly the tournaments

Darts can be a hard topic to keep up to date because of the frequency of tournaments, and because so few contribute to it. I noticed particularly your help on 2008 European Championship Darts and your excellent contributions to 2008 Grand Slam of Darts so I thought this was in order. Thanks for all your work--The Skeleton (talk) 18:39, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

New Darts player form template & 2008 in darts help if poss?

Hi, I've just created a template called template: Darts player form which allows you to input the players results for the past 4 years. I've only added it to Phil Taylor's article for now. Take a look and see what you think. I won't really have time to edit all the top players and source the info, but I've posted this message on many users pages so it may be used.

In addition, I've not really had the time to update 2008 in darts which has been bereft of updates since around September. The Pro Tour results are also lacking updates. It may not be a page that continues with 2009 in darts if its not significant enough. Again, if you or any other user wants to take control of adding results then I'd really appreciate it. Seedybob (talk) 12:01, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Re comments.
The other PDC tournaments can be added to the template pretty easily, if I get time I'll get round to it. Unfortunately I don't edit pages that often these days which is a pity. Seedybob (talk) 17:06, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Anastasia's one-use walk-on

Hello,

I wish to contact you about your edit on Anastasia Dobromyslova regarding her use of Girls by Sugababes during the Grand Slam of Darts. Yes she did indeed use it, but on her third game she used a different walk-on, the same one she used during her first game which to be honest I don't what it is. For that reason as she only used it once, I feel that mentioning her use of Girls as a walk-on may be rendered "irrelevant". But I wanted to contact you about the issue first before I, or someone else for that matter, deleted it. Let me know on you thoughts or ideas regarding this topic. Cheers. Raphie (talk) 13:36, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Ok then, no bother I'll just let you go ahead and delete it in your own time. Maybe we'll be talking about this again come January if she choses to use it at Lakeside. Raphie (talk) 14:11, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Michael Dalle Stelle

Thanks for fixing the error! I was using Sergio Perez's article as a template in my sandbox. My internet connection cut out when I submitted the changes to the career summary table, so it didn't save properly - I should have noticed it later, though.--Diniz(talk) 14:55, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

Positions in F1 driver results tables

With regard to adding positions for drivers who did not score any points in F1 seasons up to about 2000-2001 - prior to that point, if a driver didn't score any points, he wasn't classified in the WDC, so these positions are erroneous. Generally they've been removed where added, but since you've added a lot of them, I thought I'd mention it. Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:40, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

No problem - it's true that there's some of this kind of thing in the infoboxes and also in the season articles, but it's a matter of going through it all and sorting it out, which is a big job... We also need to pinpoint exactly when drivers who didn't score points became eligible for classification in the WDC, but so far we've had no luck. Some say 2000, some say 2001! Bretonbanquet (talk) 17:52, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
That's interesting. Forix / Autosport says the first season for classifiying drivers with no points was 2000, so there doesn't seem to be a clear agreement on it! Hopefully we'll find something more solid soon. Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:38, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good to me - at least we know what we're doing prior to 2000 :o) Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:00, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
That's true, and they really shouldn't. We can't apply today's rules to the past. It will be a big job, which is why I haven't tackled it yet... I'll probably start at some point, maybe with the season articles. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:10, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Hey, no problem - that other stuff is far more important :o) I'll start attacking it today and see how far I get. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:28, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Duplicated darts article.

Hi there,

As a fellow darts contributor, I wanted to contact you on an issue I have regarding I duplicate darts article. I created a stub for Doug McCarthy, unaware that he already had an article, mis-spelled Doug McCartney which meant a simple redirect would have be ideal. How can I delete or request this article to be deleted. Thanks Raphie (talk) 16:18, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

That sounds good to me. Thanks for your help. Raphie (talk) 16:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
It's Doug McCartney that needs to be deleted. Sorry I caught you in a bad time. Hope it went well for you and best of luck in the future. Raphie (talk) 16:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
I didn't think you could redirect it, it's great. Thanks very much. Raphie (talk) 17:03, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you are a big contributer to dart-related articles and thought I'd let you know that I have just created a 2009 in darts article. Please feel free to improve the article, as I don't keep up-to-date with darts. Pyrrhus16 (talk) 16:01, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

van der Garde & Nunes: not yet confirmed

I too saw the Autosport article mentioning iSport's hopes of confirming Diego Nunes and Giedo van der Garde as their 2009 GP2 drivers. I don't want to sound critical or nit-picky, but they probably shouldn't be listed as iSport's drivers until the team's announcment makes it official. However, in my opinion, they WILL be signed. 97.125.22.186 (talk) 06:56, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

In the article 2009 GP2 Series season are six new drivers. The references are all in português. I don't speak this languages, so I'm not able to judge, wheater the informations are right or wrong. Just noticed you've added a lot to the "Background" section... IMO, I think there should be a paragraph at most for the test session, we don't need that much detail for just the test session. I'd suggest cutting it down to a paragraph.... we are after all an encyclopedia and not a news site. D.M.N. (talk) 18:04, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

2009 WTCC Driver Table

While I think that the rounds column on the drivers table you added is a good idea, I think those entries that plan to do the whole season should just have 'all' in the rounds column. If any of these fail to compete at any round, this could be changed. I will go ahead and make these changes after the second race in Curitiba after which I know you will fill in the results and championship standings tables. Thanks - Petera93 (talk) 18:14, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Just one question- When a new driver is announced, lets say next Wednesday for the Puebla event. If I want to enter him on the table, which I will, can I do the following:
Team Car No. Drivers Rounds
Croatia Čolak Racing Team Ingra SEAT León 2.0 TFSI 28 Croatia Marin Čolak 1-2
Mexico New Racing Team A Car 29 Mexico New Driver Starting In Puebla 3-4
Is this alright, to signify he starts in Puebla?Petera93 (talk) 19:02, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to be pedantic but in the WTCC, when a driver is replaced he gets a new number, e.g. Duncan Huisman in 2006 when he got no.41 after replacing the no.5 Costa. Petera93 (talk) 20:01, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Team and Driver Tables before 2009

You have probably noticed that I changed the layout of the team and driver tables in the DTM, BTCC and WTCC this season(I did this under an ip address before I set up my account), to bring them into line with F1, WRC, GP2, V8s and Indycar etc. Would it be a good idea to go back and change previous years of these champs to bring them into line with the new layout? Thanks again- Petera93 (talk) 22:02, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Why was my contribution reverted? Was it the formatting? I couldn't figure out how to get the list of circuits aligned independantly of the teams & drivers (hence the "Argh!" in my edit summary). That's why it looked weird; there was no "vandalism". 97.125.28.1 (talk) 05:56, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

I see that you also reverted my contribution to the 2009 GP2 Series season page in which i mentioned that this is the fourth season for Lucas di Grassi, Luca Filippi, Vitaly Petrov, Javier Villa, and Andreas Zuber. You called it irrelevant, which is only opinion. This IS significant because few, if any, drivers get to Formula One after spending this much time in GP2. Last year's champion Giorgio Pantano had been completely overlooked by the F1 paddock after he spent several years in F3000/GP2. It IS a critical year for all five drivers to become champion.

I hope that this is just a clash of opinions. I don't want to think it's a personal issue. 97.125.28.1 (talk) 06:18, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Not everyone

Some people turn up trying to find out about the sport. I just can't see how the table will work if the leading driver scores less points than the runner-up. Chubbennaitor 17:40, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

BTCC Driver Template

I keep noticing on articles of former BTCC drivers who still have the template that it says 2009 BTCC Driver. I feel this is a bit misleading on articles such as Jason Plato, James Thompson (racing driver) or James Kaye. Could we not modify it so that it just says 'BTCC Driver'.

However, I have just noticed that drivers like Yvan Muller have different templates, that say 'btcc record'. Shall we just go through and check that all the drivers absent from the 09 entry list, like Plato, Thommo, T-O-C and Steven Kane have this template, which could be changed when/if they return. Currently their templates are rather misleading. What did happen to Steven Kane anyway? Petera93 (talk) 17:22, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
