i think we have a difference in political ideology. while i believe that the war was right and good you do not. i respect your opinion, but that does not change my opinion of a person who from all reports is personally agressive. i hope you understand, that i, unlike you, am more scared of latham than howard. Xtra 02:02, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)
it was just a comment of my personal impression. i would not put it up on an article about latham. i put it up on my page, just to show people where i stand. Xtra 02:15, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC) i am considering reducing some of the loadedness of my page. will look through when have time. Xtra 02:16, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hey Borofkin, You asked about excision of territory from Australia's migration zone and confusion re sovereignty. When the Tiwi islands were retrospectively removed from the migration zone the Australian media reported Tiwi islanders becoming concerned that their islands were no longer part of Australia. In addition the issue has been raised on talk back radio, etc. For myself, I researched the topic to find out just what effects excision land from the migration zone might have other than the desired one. I wondered, for example, if a legal immigrant might not be able to start their permanent residency there. Various authorities have stated that there are no consequences to this except to stop illegal immigrants having recourse to the courts. Why not just remove all Australian territory from the migration zone then? Apparently there are 2 reason: 1) national pride, 2) the UN would get upset since it would amount to Australia excluding all illegals from the courts. Robertbrockway, 02:47, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Australian Immigration
[edit]Nice work on the immigration article. I wanted to include some info on immigration to Australian now- like who gets in and the requirements for entry, any where in particular that you think that information should go? Also are you planning on covering short-term immigration and the various visas and permanent residency? --nixie 04:41, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Wikinews demo up and running
[edit]Hi!
I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.
You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.
If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:59, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

Prison categories
[edit]Hey... I love your work on Australian prisons. Just a question about the categorisation. A better way to organise it would be to place each prison or detention centre in the state category
- Good idea. I didn't have my head around categories that day. I've tidied it up :) Longhair 13:00, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
The Humungous Image Tagging Project
[edit]Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
Illegal immigration
[edit]Since immigration is your speciality I thought of you when I read the illegal immigration page. You might want to take a look at/edit the page, its very U.S focussed and doesn't mention illegal immigraion in a global context at all--nixie 23:02, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Borofkin. I was wondering if you could explain this edit of yours to me? - Mark 07:22, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Ahhh, I was wondering if anyone had noticed that. It's a tonge-in-cheek and very POV reference to how our current immigration policy seems to be at odds with values such as freedom, justice, and equality. I could have also linked "fair go" to White Australia policy, for example. - Borofkin 07:26, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Immigration
[edit]Hi, haven't seen you around for a while. A new editor has popped up and is using dodgy statistics to push anti-immigration sentiment, we got rid of them on Australia, but the editor has since recreated and extended the section on the immigration to Australia page. I'd appreciate your back up to keep things NPOV if you get a chance. Thanks. --nixie 23:39, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Sorry, but i REALLY can't think of much anything positive about Illuminato. And since he poured me a cup of tea i feel a bit obliged to respond in turn. That was about THE BEST most 100% positive compliment i could think of.
Sorry... but he's given me A LOT of problems in the past. And not much else.... sorry but there's not really any positive things i can say about him. :-( Nateland 00:55, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Edit Explanation
[edit]I was hoping you could justify this edit for me, as well as similar edits on other Utilitarianism pages. Fyfe is a well-known blogger, but I fail to see his importance for the general philosophical scene. Indeed, the fact that Desire utilitarianism has its own page is itself mildly dubious to me. But while I am willing to overlook the latter point, bringing Fyfe into important WikiProject Philosophy pages needs to be justified. Postmodern Beatnik 14:36, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. You make a reasonable point about the links being justified so long as the Desire utilitarianism page itself is, but I wanted to ask Banno for his opinion on the matter. I'll almost certainly defer to his judgment. Postmodern Beatnik 19:10, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think the mini-wiki [1] is a good compromise for now. After some thought, I believe a link to the mini-wiki in the External Links section of the main Utilitarianism article might be appropriate, as well. It probably wouldn't be appropriate on the other pages, but I see no reason not to put a link on the main page. I'll leave it to you, though. Postmodern Beatnik 20:06, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that the mini-wiki will take off, either. But if it is substantive, a link may still be warranted. I leave it to your judgment, however. Postmodern Beatnik 15:55, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Your ref fix [2] to the North American currency union has me puzzled. Why not just revert this IP's persistent vandalism [3] to the article? --Kralizec! (talk) 02:22, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- No worries! Thanks for taking the time to fix the broken ref. As much as this article is a magnet for vandalism and/or POV-pushing, I only wish all of its issues were so easily fixed! --Kralizec! (talk) 02:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Wikimedia Australia's draft rules have been approved by the Wikimedia Foundation, and we now intend to incorporate in the state of Victoria. You are hereby informed of the intention to hold a Wikimedia Australia meeting on 20th April 2008 with the intention to
(a) authorize a person who has attained the age of 18 years and who is resident in the State to incorporate Wikimedia Australia under the Victorian Associations Incorporation Act 1981; [that is, elect a Public Officer] (b) approve a proposed statement of purposes of Wikimedia Australia; and (c) approve the proposed rules of Wikimedia Australia.
A majority of members must vote to pass the motion to incorporate as an association, for it to meet the requirements of the Act.
The proposed rules, and proposed statement of purpose, can be found here:
Details of the incorporation meeting, including local meetings (to be joined up by teleconferencing, with any luck) and the agenda, can be found here:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Australia/Incorporation
In particular, you are invited to attend the Melbourne meeting:
- Time: 3pm
- Date: Sunday 20th April 2008
- Location: Computerbank, North Melbourne

I also encourage you to take part in discussion on the mailing list: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/Wikimediaau-l

(It is better to appoint a generic member, e.g. "Meeting Chair" or "Acting Secretary", both of whom will be of Melbourne, rather than a specific member, but the choice is yours.)
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Yours sincerely, Brianna Laugher Provisional Secretary, Wikimedia Australia

The Theory of Tea
[edit]Thanks for responding to my question; much appreciated! :) Still, I'll have to try milk first to see for myself, because it just seems so odd... like not writing with one's left hand. Paradoxically, I do pour the milk in the coffee mug first ('Europeaned,' of course), should I have creme coffee. Maybe I should start a thread on that... thanks!--Aubs 400 (talk) 11:55, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Warrigal Care
[edit]A tag has been placed on Warrigal Care requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Invitation
[edit]There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Lankiveil (speak to me) 07:13, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The article 2005 Forbes Global CEO Conference has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Last content edit appears to be in 2006, no sources cited, unlikely to be notable
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dark-World25 (talk) 02:10, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.
