DYK for Clinical trials in India

On 11 November 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Clinical trials in India, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that clinical trials in India must have government-regulated ethics committees oversee their research? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Clinical trials in India. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Clinical trials in India), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

New, simpler RfC to define trust levels for WikiLoop DoubleCheck

HI Bluerasberry/Archive 44,
I'm writing to let you know we have simplified the RfC on trust levels for the tool WikiLoop DoubleCheck. Please join and share your thoughts about this feature! We made this change after hearing users' comments on the first RfC being too complicated. I hope that you can participate this time around, giving your feedback on this new feature for WikiLoop DoubleCheck users.
Thanks and see you around online,

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:44, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Wikipedia is a social networking site

Your entry that "Wikipedia is a social networking site" confirmed a personal conclusion that I reached today.

Your assessment really belongs here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia

There are other areas on the "Wikipedia" page which need tuning; for example;

--Wikipedia has been criticized for its uneven accuracy and exhibiting systemic and gender bias, where the majority of editors are male.

That might be true but its not a main point

--the main point IMHO is the process, accuracy, et al. The criticism of Wikipedia page has a better main point.

Unwanted Page on foreign wikipedia

Hi lane, how do I terminate a page that is unwanted? The page was placed by a bot and it was not put by a human user

https://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%86%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%B4_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%AE%D8%AF%D9%85:Personisgaming

Personisgaming (talk) 17:06, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

@Personisgaming: It looks like you just got a welcome message and then removed it, which is a common way to clear a page. However, it is not uncommon in many language Wikipedias for people to clear their talk pages through deletion if they are not active.
There is no general rule for this, but the way I would do it is
  1. navigate to the English Wikipedia template for requesting deletion {{Db}}
  2. From there, go to the interlanguage list of equivalent templates d:Q4847311#sitelinks-wikipedia
  3. Choose the language version where you want to delete Arabic
  4. paste that template on the page you want deleted {{قالب:شطب}}
Since this is a request to delete your user talk page, you should be the person to post it. Post that Arabic text and the curly brackets on the page and it should render a deletion request for that page.

@Personisgaming: Yes, this is my guest guess for requesting a deletion in that language. Deletion probably will happen within 3 days; if no deletion in a week then let's try something else. In English these deletions happen within 1 day but I cannot predict how fast admins operate there. Blue Rasberry (talk) 00:04, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

Nomination of Women in chess for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Women in chess is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

Steward elections

Hi Lane. I don't want to say too much because I'm supposed to be retired (from en.Wiki at least), but I wholly agree with your feelings with respect to WMF staff. I am disappointed to see so many paid staff holding advanced rights on en.Wiki, or so many once respected users crossing the line and accepting paid jobs. In the past this has been brazenly abused by WMF staff (and my having dared to mention it somewhere was dug up and used as one of the arguments for my desysoping). There a few (but not many) WMF staff for whom I have some respect, but there is a total COI when paid staff have volunteer admin, bureaucrat, arbcom, or steward positions on the encyclopedias. It doesn't bode well, however good the intentions are. IMO there should be a total separation. In my entire experience, one way or another I'm sorry to say, but the WMF on the whole works against the interests of the volunteer communities whose work provides the funds that pay their salaries, rather than for the benefit of the smooth running of the entire movement. Perhaps this is worth a mention in The Signpost. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:25, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Covid 19 fungus

Nobody has claimed that Black Fungus is a Covid 19 condition. It is simply oppurtunistic mucormycosis and in every possible way, similar to mucormycosis. We see these type of infections in patients undergoing ART for AIDS (and multiple other situations) but do not create individual articles for all of them.

I propose that the entire content be copied to Mucormycosis#Black_fungus. TrangaBellam (talk) 10:16, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

@TrangaBellam: Could you propose this on the article talk page? You may be right and I do not know. Typical articles on the subject talk about COVID and this fungus together, such as here -
I am unsure of the best interpretation. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:11, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lane, thank you very much for moving David Ellington to the main workspace, really appreciated! I was wondering if you could give me feedback on how to improve these drafts, as they are all about LGBTQ+ deaf people and it would be a great addition to Pride month! Cheers!

WikiProject Dietary Supplements

Some updates to WikiProject Dietary Supplements, see message. Jerm (talk) 15:21, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

The Dietary Supplements Barnstar
Hello Bluerasberry. It's very rare that I give out barnstars, especially ones that I've made. I believe though that you deserve be the first recipient of this one. I take dietary supplements, but never did I consider it a relevant subject on Wikipedia. I'm glad to have stumbled upon WikiProject Dietary Supplements and glad to know there's a WikiProject dedicated to the topic, so thank you for making WikiProject Dietary Supplements. Jerm (talk) 04:04, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
@Jerm: Thanks, this is not an award I imagined ever receiving but I like it a lot! I am glad that you appreciate it because I wondered when and if anyone else would be interested in supplements as a topic category. I know the articles are very popular among readers, but there is always the weird mismatch between topics that the audience wants to read versus topics that editors want to develop. I am standing by to respond to anyone who ever shows up to discuss and develop this topic. Thanks again - Blue Rasberry (talk) 10:57, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Tor RM

I saw that your RM proposal at Talk:Tor (rock formation) got a bit of a chilly reception, but I just wanted to say, your argument really resonated with me, and I think these are the kinds of discussions we should have more of. I find Wikipedia often falls short of its goal of having things "grouped into articles based on what they are, not what they are called by", so it makes me happy to see bold suggestions for merging/renaming/rescoping articles to better "carve nature at its joints".

A similar example I was thinking of recently is Diner and Greasy spoon. As with Outcrop vs. Tor, the latter is basically just a regional synonym for the former with some minor further connotations. (And then there's Lunch counter, Soda shop, Milk bar, Snack bar...). Colin M (talk) 06:11, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

(Talk page enjoyer) @Colin M: I think articles like greasy spoon are interesting in the sense that they mix being about the word itself with being about the concept the word refers to. Like, is "greasy spoon" a thing that exists - or just a term to refer to other things that exist? The article can't quite make up its mind. I feel like in this case, being about the word itself actually makes more sense, as "greasy spoon" is more of a slang term and we shouldn't have an encyclopedic article about the concept - a diner - at that location. Elli (talk | contribs) 06:23, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
I can definitely get behind the idea of articles about words, but in the case of greasy spoon specifically, I doubt the term (as a term) would meet the notability threshold. The etymology and antedating currently in the article could probably find a better home at wikt:greasy spoon. Colin M (talk) 06:40, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Perhaps, I'm not sure. I think the particular "greasy spoon" word is used often in pop culture to describe a particular idea of a diner - and that is maybe notable - but a redirect to Diner#Terminology (or whatever the relevant section is) would be just fine with me as well. Elli (talk | contribs) 06:56, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
@Elli and Colin M: Thanks for the comments. I do think that the outcrop/tor example is analogous to the diner/greasy spoon example, because I feel like there is one broad concept then there is a regional culture which uses a variant word for some cases. I am not sure how to draw a line. Perhaps it is not so urgent. I got into this trying to list Tor (network) as the main topic among topics in Tor, against insistence that Tor (rock formation) is what people know. Perhaps this is a unique issue. Probably most cases are like the diner / greasy spoon example where the drawback is some forked information, and maybe that is tolerable if some cultural community wants it. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:20, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Fundamental concepts

Ah, yeah, back then I was adding a bunch of terms I found in the handbook of research methodology that didn't have articles yet. Requesting info.

Greetings,

It seems that previously you have contributed to the article Jashodaben Modi.

As pert of WP:3O I am trying to help out user dispute @ Talk:Narendra Modi#Child marriage? ‎regarding age of marriage of Jashodaben Modi.

1) The article Jashodaben Modi gives her date of birth as Jan 1952 but calculating backward on this other ref it should be June 1951 or so. Do you have any idea The article Jashodaben Modi is taking date of birth from which source, or did you come across any other reliable source regarding her birth day.

2) (Secondly there seems to be some unattended confusion regarding her father's name too On some Wikipedia pages name 'Chamanlal' where as at other places it is mentioned 'Chimanlal'; any idea which one is likely to be more proper?

Thanks and warm regards

Bookku, 'Encyclopedias are for expanding information and knowledge' (talk) 07:17, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Oh okay, you seem to have made mention @ Talk:Jashodaben Modi/Archive 1 & it seems you also reverse calculated on the basis of her interview. So I will need to tally two different sources.

Thanks

Bookku, 'Encyclopedias are for expanding information and knowledge' (talk) 07:33, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

@Bookku: I replied on that talk page. I confirmed that the sources do not have dates. Yes, I also tried reverse calculating, as did many other journalists. We do not know her birthday or the date of the marriage, and so far as I know, no source reports these things. They only report how old people were at certain times, and then also, they report different ages. Most sources say the marriage happened when Modi was 18 and Jashodaben was 17. The sources are a mess. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:14, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Penelope Scott page

Hi Bluerasberry, I noticed you recently made a page for Penelope Scott. However, there was already a much more developed version of the page at Draft:Penelope Scott that most likely should have been moved to the main space instead, as it meets notability guidelines. Do you know how I would go about moving said draft? Memories of (talk) 19:09, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

@Memories of: There are a few things happening here. I think the easiest resolution would be to delete the version I posted, Penelope Scott, and then move Draft:Penelope Scott to it. The draft is more developed and cites the same sources.
I regret that I failed to identify the draft. It seems like the draft first came to be in January, and I started my version in February, and then I just published a few days ago and the draft failed review after that. It was my neglect to find that draft, but I also wish Wikipedia had better alerts when a draft exists.
While I believe the topic passes WP:GNG, I hesitate to take action on the draft when past reviewers have said no. An advantage of the version I posted is that the content definitely passes GNG and verification. The draft seems to have content without citations and also some interpretation of primary sources, which may be why the reviewer denied the pass.
Can you make the call on what to do next? I will take whatever action you suggest. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:45, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
Two of the past reviewers rejected versions of the article that lacked both chart information and significant coverage, an issue that no longer exists in the current version of the draft. Per WP:IGNORE, since the current version of the article passes notability guidelines, it would make sense to forego AfC and move it to the main space (provided that the edit history is moved as well). Memories of (talk) 17:37, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
@Memories of: Can you tell me exactly what you want me to do? Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:20, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
@Bluerasberry: Delete the page as is and move the draft to the main space to replace it. Memories of (talk) 16:55, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
@Memories of: I requested deletion of my draft at Penelope Scott on rationale WP:G7. Can I ask you to manage the movement of the draft? The reason why I do not want to touch that draft is because there are other reviewers there stating opinions, and I do not want to circumvent their judgements. Please ask any of those reviewers, or any other reviewer, to give another check to the article and move it. Does that seem okay? Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:12, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
