Categories on redirects[edit]

I see you reverted my removals of categories on a couple redirect pages, citing that they can have categories if they are WP:INCOMPATIBLE with the target article. I do understand that point, but the same page, at the top, says that Redirects are not articles and most should not be sorted into mainspace content categories.

I personally don't mind either way if character redirects to lists have mainspace categories, but I'd like for it to be consistent. You and Kung Fu Man seem to have conflicting views on this, so I'll ping him to you, if that's alright with him. I reverted to his side (no mainspace categories on redirects) since he's a longtime user and your IP doesn't show a lot of history; however, your good understanding of policy implies you have edited for a while as well. To better elaborate, a big reason we don't do categories like those on redirects is to avoid a situation where a category is bloated with nothing but redirects. Case in point, the "video game characters by year" suddenly having EVERY Pokemon listed, or every Mario enemy from a particular entry, or even just every female character in a video games along would be a sheer nightmare. Prior to a massive cleanup it was in a rather rough state, and it's easy to see why.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 17:52, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
