The Paul & Young Ron Show is a morning radio program starring Paul Castronovo and "Young" Ron Brewer, broadcast on WBGG-FM in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale radio market, and WKGR-FM in the West Palm Beach radio market.

The program is on live from 6:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Monday to Friday.

History

[edit]

Paul Castronovo and Ron Brewer began their morning show on WSHE, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. They then moved to WZTA, Miami Beach. Eventually the show moved to WBGG, Ft. Lauderdale, where they seem to have found a permanent home. In late 2007, the show began simulcasting on West Palm Beach's WKGR[1][2]. WKGR broadcasts a Paul and Young Ron Hectic Moment from that day's show each weekday at 5:00 PM, prior to their long music marathon known as the "traffic jam."

Style

[edit]

The style of the show has always been a comedy show, in the morning zoo format. They are known for performing outrageous stunts around the Broward County/Miami-Dade County area. The Paul & Young Ron Show has hosted many social events for their listeners including several with the name "Social on the Intracoastal," which typically take place at a venue along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Current members

[edit]

Although Paul Castronovo and Ron Brewer have always been a part of the show, there have been many other members of the cast since the show's inception.

Paul Castronovo

[edit]

The lovable leader of the group. Paul is married to Gina Castronovo, whose health issues including a bout with cancer and injuries sustained in a car accident have been topics of conversation on the show in recent years. The couple has two children, one from Gina's previous marriage.

Paul's hobbies include fishing from his boat Hectic Daze 4, tailgating at University of Florida Gator football games and eating at expensive restaurants. He also has a penchant for flashing around his paycheck stub that, he claims, is several times higher than Mr. Brewer's and everyone else's in the show.

Paul enjoys TV shows 24, The Office, 30 Rock and many movies, but there's a special place in his heart for The Godfather and everything Pacino.

Mr. Castronovo is proud of his Italian descent and aspires to one day be known as Don Castronovo of the Lighthouse Point Family.

On the bit "None of your damn business" we learned that: Even in his WILDEST days Paul never had sexual activity with a man.

Young Ron Brewer

[edit]

Family man and black woman lover, Young Ron spends his days hoola hooping on his wii at his large estate in the equestrian community of Parkland. You can find Mr. Brewer anytime on YouTube displaying his hooping skills.

Young Ron is not that young anymore, he shares a birthday with David Lee Roth and he admires stars who have long since stopped shining, but he takes great pride in raising his children and having had a semi-threesome at 13 in Michigan.

Ron Brewer displayed his fantastic singing and dancing skills on American Idiots, where he immortalized classics like "Blinky Blinky".

On the bit "None of your damn business" we learned that: His wife doesn't shave her private areas.

Steve Branzig

[edit]

Former WZTA jock and now producer to Paul and Ron, Branzig is openly homosexual and the cast routinely uses his sexual proclivities as fodder for material on the show. His home has recently become a convertible when his roof caved in. Even so Branzig continues to live beyond his means, not saving for retirement, driving a brand new car and supporting his college boytoy husband.

Toast

[edit]

Toast, named such in the era when show interns were given names of breakfast foods) started his life surrounded by luxury and wealth and started working at the show as an intern back during the WZTA days.

He worked as the sports reporter for the show and as well as a sports commentator on other South Florida radios, after a falling out with Paul he has returned to the show as a producer.

He has taken in his father in law (against his will and without his knowledge) and he's a staunch Republican.

Toast is married and currently trying for a kid.

OMG Mike

[edit]

OMG stands for "Oh My God." This is derived from a bit when he was an intern in which Mike was sent to report on the weather conditions, blindfolded on State road 441 after a few days in which rain had soaked much of South Florida. The bit was that, unbeknownst to him, Mike would be soaked by drivers (PR1's) driving over and splashing the large puddles, which had accumulated on 441, in Mike's direction. Upon being splashed Mike famously yelled "Oh my god" over and over again into show infamy. For a short while he was known as "Oh My God Mike", which was subsequently shortened to "OMG Mike" and more recently, simply "OMG". His love life has been the topic of many shows, including his time with the "(Cuban) Sandwich". OMG Mike is the whipping boy on the show and is the go-to-guy for all embarassing stunts and punishment. He has been described on the air as having "Cherub-ish" features by other cast members.

You Can't Win

[edit]

What is it?

[edit]

You Can't Win is a contest played on the show daily. It consists of having show listeners call in and answer six very difficult questions to ultimately win a whole bunch of prizes. The way it works is that on the first day the first question is asked. If the question is answered correctly the next question is asked. If the caller answers incorrectly they are given a consolation prize, usually a DVD or concert tickets, and the game is over for the day. The next day the process is repeated. The contest continues until all six questions have been answered. Certain rules exist, including: if the contest goes over a calendar year, a hint is given. Other hints may be given at Paul and Ron's discretion.

Season 12

[edit]

Season 12 of You Can't Win began on February 18, 2008, and will be played at 7:45 AM daily until all 6 questions are answered correctly.

Prizes

The prizes for Season 12 are:[3]

Questions

[edit]

The following are the You Can't Win Season 12 questions as they become available. The answers will not be posted so as to maintain the integrity of the contest.

  1. "What costs $5 for city residents and $10 for non-residents?" (answered on March 19, 2008)
  2. "What happens on April 17th, 2011?" (answered on March 21, 2008)
  3. "Where is a 'February Suntan' a selling point?" (answered on April 28, 2008)
  4. "What two things do Paul Castronovo and Winston Churchill have in common?"

Controversy

[edit]

On the morning of March 24, 2008 Paul Castronovo mentioned how he was upset about the fact that question 2 had been answered too quickly, stating that he thought there had been cheating going on. His quote was "There's something rotten in Denmark..." referring to haveahectic.com, the Unofficial Paul and Young Ron Tribute Site, owner Soren's visit to the WBGG studio. Soren had been accompanied by haveahectic.com site member Doug, who also happened to have been the person to answer question 2. Paul accused Doug of taking a picture of the You Can't Win questions and answers while he was in the studio. Both Doug and Soren were proven innocent of all accusations when haveahectic.com member Ben, called in and explained how he found the answer, yet the controversy spanned a couple of days on the show.

Food drive

[edit]

The Paul & Young Ron Show hold a yearly food drive around Christmas to benefit the Daily Bread Food Bank.[4] They broadcast for 13 hours straight and feature local and national celebrities on the show, who sometimes make donations of their own. Listeners call in all day pledging money to the food bank, which is translated into pounds of food, approximately 9 pounds of food per dollar donated.

Streaming

[edit]

The Paul & Young Ron show streams live on both WBGG's and WKGR's websites. WBGG's stream offers a pre-delayed version of the show that is permitted to air indecent material that would not be able to be aired due to FCC regulation.
