Greetings!
Здравствуйте!
¡Hola!
Currently residing in Hungry Horse, Montana, I have also lived in Kalispell and Missoula. I moved to the state in 1975. Prior to that, I was a resident of Wyoming, having graduated from high school in Douglas, Wyoming, in 1966. We moved to Douglas from Nebraska in 1957.
Spent time in college (University of Wyoming et al.), but never managed to get a degree. I've studied lots of things, but have the most hours in anthropology and biology. And I finally managed to pass the calculus course!
I served four years in the U. S. Air Force (1969-1973), where I was a Russian (русский язык) linguist/radio intercept operator with the U.S. Air Force Security Service (USAFSS). I was a "spy in the sky" for part of that time, flying on C-130's flown by the 7406th Operations Squadron out of Rhein Main Air Base on missions over the Baltic Sea with the 6916th Security Squadron, and spent one year doing similar work on the ground in Turkey with TUSLOG, Det. 94 (Karamürsel Common Defense Installation, aka KCDI) at Karamürsel. I am a member of the Prop Wash Gang, an informal "club" of former USAFSS, ESC (Electronic Security Command) and AIA (Air Intelligence Agency) members.
I am currently "retired," having just quit doing income tax preparation after 25 years of it. I am an amateur lepidopterist, having taken up the study of butterflies in high school. I've published a measly three papers during that time, have been a member of various lep-related societies off and on over the years.
I worked at the Conrad Mansion Museum in Kalispell on a volunteer basis as the resident Archivist, in charge of documents, photographs and the book collection for a couple of years. My wife and I have self-published the first book in an epic fantasy series under the pen name J. R. Hardesty. I am also a past-President of the Flathead County Museum Board.
I was a founding member of the Northwest Montana Posse of the Westerners International, a group of folk interested in the history of the Western part of the United States, and was the editor of its publication program, both the monthly newsletter and the journal, but that is all history now.
I own the Rising Wolf Press, a digital private press which I operate out of my home. I print what I like, from my wife's poetry to short historical/genealogical works. My wife and I are also self-taught hand bookbinders and bind the output of the Press ourselves.
Other interests include ancient history/prehistory, archaeology, languages, numismatics, cigars and lots of other things.
My mania for grammar and spelling will no doubt lead me to make many such corrections all over Wiki-land as I encounter things in need of fixing. I use the handle "Glacierman" here and on several cigar boards.
Now, I've tooted my own horn long enough.
Cheers to all!
Добрий день!
¡Adios, mis amigos!
